I created a post card inspired by the salt flats present in Utah, specifically near Bonneville. I learned more about the culture in the town of Bonneville and the surrounding area. My goal was to showcase the importance of the salt flats, not only to the people of Bonneville but also the importance of the salt flats as a location. I am very satisfied with the product; it showcases the weathered salt flats and their importance. I hope the audience understands how the salt flats carry a lot of significance, to the surrounding towns, to racing, and to the future.
The artwork portrays the connection between fate and our lives, sickness, a naturally occurring idea is referred to as what fate intended. I wanted to create a connection from fate and death to the Black Plague, even though it could be seen as just a disease, fate looms behind it. Understanding the importance of symbolism was a major step for me, picking colors that allude to the idea of fate and the experience of death. It brings me a sense of wonder, as though those in the picture cannot sense what looms behind them, we as an audience are drawn to the figure that lurks. Audience members should take time to understand the smaller details within the artwork, despite the obvious figures, symbols hide in what we choose to ignore.
As we drown in sorrow and worries, we often stare at the sky, coveting the moonlight and the stars that light up the sky, and sometimes those stars are what guide us. Restitution is about a story of a knight who doesn’t feel like she belongs and constantly being reminded of that but following the stars that guide her. The movie poster provides a sense of unease and wonder, with the bright star standing out despite the edges fading away. I wanted to make a poster that made the audience pay more attention to the night sky but also providing a sense of curiosity to what hides beneath the night. Learning how to provide a sense of emotion to every part of the poster was the most difficult part, the wonder of the sky, the comfort of the house, the worry of the river, and the nerve of the fading poster.
Othello was one of Shakespeare’s works that stood out to me, the trust and chaos within the book made it my choice to make my own book cover. Choosing green silk as my media brought many challenges involving texture, learning when to add texture and making certain parts clearer to provide importance was something that made it difficult. My goal was to make a cover that both seemed simple, and full of depth. Not only does the silk allude to scenes within the book, but the green that it is made up is significant within the characters themselves. The cover provides me with the feeling I wanted, a sense of paranoia and worry filled with the delight and success that green is usually associated with. New readers should wonder why objects and colors were used where they were, and those who have read the book should understand the importance of the items on the cover.
