On Saturday, May 2 The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) community came together to celebrate one of the most meaningful milestones in a student’s journey, graduation. The 104th commencement ceremony honored the dedication and perseverance of graduates who have devoted countless hours to reaching this moment.

Jim Wolverton, a valued member of the CBSM team, earned his Bachelor of Applied Management. At the same time, his son, Mason Wolverton, earned his Master of Business Administration after previously earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting through CBSM. When asked about the experience, Jim reflected on the unexpected timing of his achievement. “When I started as a bachelor's student at UAF 35 years ago, I did not think it would take me this long. It reminds me of the verse ‘The heart of man plans his way, and God directs his steps.’ Even though it's not how I had planned it, I think it's how it was meant to be. And I wouldn't trade this journey for anything, especially since I have been able to go through it with my son, Mason, and daughter-in-law, Chloe. And now my daughter, Hannah, and her husband, Tanner, are CBSM students as well, I might just have to start a master's program so that I can also graduate with them, too!”

Celebrating these milestones while recognizing stories like the Wolvertons' is both exciting and inspiring. It serves as a powerful reminder of the support and opportunities UAF offers, and the sense of belonging that makes this school feel like home.

From all of us in the College of Business and Security Management, congratulations to the class of 2026. As you step into your next chapter, there is no doubt you will make a lasting impact in your community. As always, Go Nooks!
