Cylchlythyr Ysgol Saltney Ferry

"Cydweithio, gallwn gyd llwyddo."

Hope you all had a lovely half term break. We have had another busy week at Saltney Ferry. The older children have had a lovely time at the river, planting wildflower seeds. As you can see from the photographs, a great time was had by all. I am looking forward to attending the Eisteddfod on Monday and celebrating this wonderful tradition with your pupils. L. Williams Executive Headteacher

A busy week in Dosbarth Alwen preparing for our Eisteddfod performance next week, we can't wait to show the rest of the school🤩🎤  Nursery have had fun playing our maths game roll and find focusing on our counting with 1-1 correspondence skills. Reception have blown my socks off with their fantastic combining skills using a concrete set model & writing their number sentences drawing attention to addition and equal symbols👏🏻 We have had lots of fun in Udeskole painting daffodils & have started our new topic in PE - ball skills ⚽️🏉🏐  Looking forward to another busy half term!

This week in Dosbarth Padarn we have started our new topic of ‘New life’. We have begun to read our book focus of Jack and the Beanstalk. Our week began with finding a letter from Jack asking us to become ‘growth experts’. We will have to learn all about plants and what they need.

We worked together in groups to come up with some ideas about what we think a plant needs. We also sorted and classified magic beans and observed and drew pictures of daffodils.

It was also lovely to enjoy the sun outside this week - playing in the water and building an obstacle course, developing our problem solving skills.

In Dosbarth Tegid we have begun our new topic, "New Life." To launch our learning, we visited the forest area to look for signs of new life in our natural environment. The children carefully observed their surroundings, searching for buds, shoots, insects, birds and other seasonal changes. We discussed how spring brings growth and new beginnings. As part of this experience, the children worked collaboratively to design and create their own nests using natural materials. They explored weaving techniques, thinking carefully about how birds build strong, secure nests to protect their eggs and chicks. This hands-on activity encouraged teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.

In LLC, we have started exploring non-chronological reports. The children are learning about the key features of this text type, including headings, subheadings, factual language and diagrams. Our focus text links to chicks hatching and early life cycles. We are building rich vocabulary related to growth and change. Over the coming weeks, the children will research, plan and write their own non-chronological reports linked to our topic. In Maths, we are focusing on statistics. The children are learning how to collect data systematically and record their findings using tally charts and pictograms. We are discussing how to interpret data, compare results and answer questions such as “Which was the most common?” and “How many more?” This links to real-life contexts and helps develop their analytical thinking skills. We are very excited to continue exploring this topic and encourage you to talk to your child about any signs of new life you notice.

"Team work makes the dream work!"

Dosbarth Brenig have used their Welsh language skills this week, reviewed our time skills in maths and our poetic flair in literacy. We took part in the workshop two of conservation with Mike from Country Side and Coast who did an amazing job of helping our learners get to grips with biodiversity, sustainability and our environment - perfect for our next BIG question - "What's beneath our feet?" as we explore our earth and environment. Next week is Glan Llyn! We can't wait to get stuck into our learning this term, rooting our thinking, blossoming in our skills and sprouting a few new ideas!

"Time flies..." Our pupils have been learning about clocks and time this week, what better way than challenging ourselves to how far we can run in 3 seconds, 5 seconds and 60 seconds.

We have had a lovely first week back in Dosbarth Gwynant!  We have started to get stuck in to our new topic 'Conservation Counts: Animals of Africa' and reading our new class book 'The White Giraffe'. The children have been full of ideas and curiosity regarding our new topic and we are all very excited to get stuck in in the coming weeks!

We have enjoyed practising our song for the Eisteddfod and are looking forward to performing this for our friends and teachers on Monday.

We loved taking part in the tree conservation project down by the river as we were able to sow wildflower seeds and plant trees. Take yourselves for a walk down there in the summer and you will hopefully see the flowers blooming, how exciting!

Both Brenig and Gwynant had a great opportunity to work with Mike from Flintshire Country Side and Coast this week. The changes near the carp park / foot bridge will soon take shape into Spring with wildflowers taking over and a new hedgerow planted by our pupils.

Can Cook Well Fed

After our cooking programme with a group of parents last term, we were asked to hold a food collection programme afterward. Great news it open to all our parents now! Each meal comes as fresh produce for you to cook. It is amazing, fresh, healthy food and all locally sourced. Follow the instructions on how to place your orders. If you've any questions have a chat with Mr Lloyd.
