The Yale men’s basketball team will be the first seed in this year’s Ivy League tournament. After back-to-back wins against Cornell and Columbia this weekend, the Bulldogs have clinched sole control of the Ivy title with three games left to play.

Against Cornell on Friday night, Yale trailed 78-71 with 6:48 remaining in the second half. Guard Bez Mbeng ’25 and forward Casey Simmons ’26 combined for 15 points in the game’s final minutes to help turn the game back in the Elis favor.

“That was just a really gutsy performance by our team, backs against the wall several times, and we kept fighting and never gave up,” said head coach James Jones.

Yale’s 12 game unbeaten run is the nation’s longest win streak. The Bulldogs have not lost a game since Dec. 21, 2024.

Forward Nick Townsend ’26 finished with 24 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Isaac Celiscar ’28, a standout first year, added 11 points, four rebounds and two blocks.

The Bulldogs will hope to repeat last season’s success at the upcoming Ivy Tournament, which will be hosted at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 15 and 16. The winner will earn a place in March Madness.
