Principal Message
Dear Families, Welcome to the month of May! As we move into this beautiful spring season, we are grateful for the many opportunities ahead for our students to learn, grow, and celebrate together. We are excited to begin our DanceEd Residency this Monday. Throughout the week, each class will be learning a dance to share. Students in Grades 1–6 will perform in the gym at 2:00 PM on Friday, and families are warmly invited to join us for this special event. Our Kindergarten students will also be showcasing their learning with a performance in the morning prior to dismissal. The exact time will be communicated directly to Kindergarten families Additionally, our Grade 6 Babysitting Course will begin this Thursday with Session #1. We look forward to seeing our students develop important skills through this program. Have a wonderful weekend, Mrs. Carr-Jeschke & Mrs.McNamee
St. Paul Week of May 4-8, 2026
Welcome Back Mrs. Lee!
On Monday, May 4th, we welcome back Mrs. Lee to our school community. We are so happy to have you back with us! Starting Monday, absences, lates and general inquiries can be emailed to Mrs. Lee. We thank Ms. Anique so much for serving our school so well in Mrs. Lee's absence! We appreciate your warm smile and caring heart so much, and thank you for taking such good care of us.
May/June Staffing Update
As was shared this week in a letter to families, there are some staffing changes that will take place over the months of May and June. Ms. Guzzo will be transitioning into the role of full-time Grade 2/3 teacher for the remainder of the school year. We are grateful for her continued dedication to her students and her leadership within the classroom. Mrs. Hudon will be moving into a full-time role supporting students across the school. She will focus on reading intervention, government screening, and targeted support for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. This work will allow us to further strengthen literacy and numeracy development and provide additional support where it is most needed. We are also pleased to welcome Ms. Jann Santiago to St. Paul School for the remainder of the school year. Ms. Santiago will be assuming music instruction for students in Kindergarten through Grade 6. She brings a wealth of musical experience, including both instrumental and vocal expertise, and we are excited to have her join our team. The week of May 4–8 will serve as a transition period, as Ms. Guzzo shifts fully into her classroom role and Ms. Santiago prepares to begin her teaching responsibilities. Ms. Santiago will officially assume music instruction beginning Monday, May 11. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all students and appreciate your continued support as we make these adjustments.

Parent Appreciation
This past week was Parent Appreciation Week. As the first teachers of our students, we are so grateful for the partnership with our families. We recognize the work, dedication and love that goes into the nightly reading, study sessions and homework help...along with lunch prepping, field trip form signing and theme day planning. If you were able to drop by the office this past week to pick up a little token of our appreciation, we were so happy to be able to honor you in a small way. Thank you again to all the adults who work hard to support the students in their lives!
Hats on For Mental Health!
Every year CMHA dedicates a week in May to raise the awareness of Mental Health. This year Mental Health Week will run May 4-8, and Hats On! for Mental Health Day will take place on May 6. Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health. Participating schools will relax their hat rules and encourage students and teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school.
Updated 2026-2027 ECSD School Year Calendar
Edmonton Catholic Schools has updated the 2026–2027 Division school year calendar. While the total number of instructional and operational days remains the same, a few dates have changed. For most ECSD students, the first day of school will be Wednesday, September 2, 2026. There will be no classes for all ECSD students on Monday, October 19, 2026, as the province conducts a scheduled referendum and Elections Alberta has requested that schools not be in session that day. View and download the calendars at ecsd.net/calendar.
School Council Corner
Please see the following communication from your SAC Executive: We can’t believe it’s already May! Our Staff Appreciation Committee is already busy preparing for another wonderful Staff Appreciation Week later this month, making sure our school staff are truly recognized and well taken care of. If you’d like to contribute, please send your donation to stpaulyeg@hotmail.com and include your child(ren)’s name in the message. More info can be found here. With just a few weeks of library time left in the school year, we also want to send a big thank you to all the parents who have generously volunteered their time to keep our library running. Because of you, students continue to enjoy fantastic reading opportunities each week. Our volunteers bring such great energy, and many say how rewarding it is to help kids discover new books and stories! A huge thank you to Jen Mich, Alicia Dmytruk, Kirsti Abram, Audrey Hanna, Catheryn Shea, Dusica Radojcic, Shenaigh Newman, Jen Lafferty and Shawna Petersen for everything you do to keep things running so smoothly. We’d also like to wish our 54 St. Paul students the best of luck at Run Wild this weekend! This is the largest group we’ve ever had, and we’re so grateful to Mrs. Hudon for making it all happen. It’s such a great opportunity for students to get active, get involved, and—most importantly—give back to the community, in this case by supporting the Zebra Foundation. Go St. Paul Go!
Art Cards by Kids: Orders Due May 4
This past week, students came home with sample cards featuring their art work, along with instructions on how to order.
Orders are placed through the Art Cards by Kids website. The red code on the back of the card is what families can use to order cards. Orders close May 4th.
Staff Parking Lot
A reminder that the staff parking lot is not to be used for student pick ups or drop offs. There are staff vehicles, as well as Division vehicles coming in and out of the lot, making it very unsafe for students. Please choose safety or convenience and drop students off in designated drop off areas: 96 Ave in front of the school or 145 Street to the west of the school. Thank you for your support with this!
