Welcome to our final term in Reception!
We hope that you all had an enjoyable and restful half-term break. We cannot believe that we are heading into our final half term in Reception. The children have made lots of progress this year and grown up so much! We have more exciting and engaging topics this half term starting with 'Mini beasts' and moving onto 'Seaside and Pirates'.
'Magnificent mini beasts' and 'Seaside & Pirates!'
Summer 2 Learning
Communication and Language
This term we will be talking about the experiences the children have had during the year including what they have enjoyed and what they have learnt to do. We will be looking at the similarities and differences between things in the past and now. We will also be reciting poems and songs
PSED
This half term we will be focusing on ‘Managing myself: My well being’. We will be learning all about looking after our well being through exercise as well as learning about a balanced diet and how this can help us be healthy. We will also continue to talk about how it is important to be kind to living creatures. We will even have our own class caterpillars and watch them as they change into butterflies.
Physical Development
We will continue to develop our fine motor skills with our finger challenges and practise forming our letters and numbers correctly.
In PE, we will be continuing to look at 'fundamental movement and team games'. We will be using bats and balls to practise sending and receiving, as well as looking at travelling with a ball and hitting a target. Reception PE days for this half term will be Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Literacy
We will start this half term looking at both non fiction and fiction books around mini-beasts including 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We will make a flap book all about mini-beasts, where we will think about clues for other children to guess the mini beast we are describing! We will also be reading the story ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ and write a plan to stop the seagulls from eating Mr Grinling’s lunch! We will also be writing simple sentences, focusing on finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.
Mathematics
We will explore odd and even number this half term. The children will begin to understand that some quantities will share equally into 2 groups and some won’t. We will be exploring the odd and even structure on the number shapes and building pair-wise patterns on the 10 frames. We will be looking at patterns and building our own pattern rules. We will also be looking at visualising, building and mapping.
Understanding the World
At the start of our half term we will be observing our caterpillars as they grow and change in our mini beast investigation lab. We will also be talking about contrasting environments, comparing where we live with the seaside as well as looking at maps of the seaside and talking about the features that we can see. We will also be looking at sea creatures and their habitats. Linked to our key texts we will be thinking about how life has changed.
Expressive Arts & Design
We will painting sea creatures, as well as creating seaside collages. We will be revisiting songs that we have learnt this year and perform these songs for our families and friends.
Summer 1 Learning Highlights
Reception Assembly
We are in the process of organising our Reception Assembly which we will be performing for Parents/Carers on Friday 20th June. Our assembly will give you an insight to all of our learning and achievements this year and will be a celebration of our Reception year. It will feature photographs, videos and songs from the past year. All children will have a line to rehearse for this assembly which has been posted on Tapestry. We would really appreciate your support in helping your child to learn their lines.
Reception Sports Stay and Play
We are very excited to be inviting parent/carers into school on the morning of Friday 11th July to join us for our sports morning. We will have a range of fun, sports activities for you and your child to take part in. This is always a very popular event so please bring your trainers so that you can join in with the fun!
We are very excited for our final term and have lots of exciting activities planned. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch either by ringing or emailing the school office, who will pass on your queries or alternatively, leave us a message on Tapestry and we will get back to you. With your continued support, I am sure that we will have another successful and exciting half term ahead of us.
Many thanks for you ongoing support.
Best Wishes,
Miss Storey and Miss Elvin
