Welcome to this week's newsletter
On Wednesday 22 May we invited parents and carers of children at Manor School to discuss the feedback shared with us following our recent survey.
More than 65 people joined us to hear our CEO Chris Hill, Deputy CEO Matt Coleman and members of the school’s senior leadership team present the concerns raised and outline the plans that are in place to address them in order to make improvement at the school. Our aim is that we can improve ‘Manor Together’ by working in closer partnership. The feedback on the night from many parents/carers was very positive and we were told that they appreciated our openness and transparency. Moving forward, this is the way we want all of our interactions to be. We also would like to thank all parents/carers that attended for the level of courtesy and respect they showed to the colleagues from the school during the session.
We also invited parents and carers to work with us and get involved in parent voice groups on key topics that the school will be working on in the near future. The aim is that the voice of parents/carers in our school is regularly captured to ensure that there is a togetherness on key topics. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Natalie Bannard (nbannard@manor.school) with your name and any areas you would be interested in working with us on.
We will be inviting parents/carers to a further meeting in approximately 6 months’ time to discuss the progress made and will communicate the date of that meeting nearer the time.
In the meantime, you can view a copy of the presentation delivered on the night by clicking the link below.
Attendance matters
Please help us to improve your child's success at school by sharing the following with them:
- Kalimera! The Greek philosopher Plato said ‘If a man neglects education, he walks lame to the end of his life.’ Don’t neglect your education. Attend school every day.
- Only 3% of students with attendance of less than 50% achieve 5+ GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
Year 8 vaccinations
On Monday 15 July, Year 8 students have their Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV). Parents/carers should have received a consent form which they must fill out. The closing time for the consent form will be 8:00am on 15 July.
Apprenticeships
We have uploaded onto our website a range of apprenticeship opportunities that may be of interest to students. Please click here to see what is currently on offer across the county.
Criminal exploitation
Criminal exploitation is child abuse where children and young people are manipulated and coerced into committing crimes. Children and young people involved with gangs and criminal exploitation need help and support. They might be victims of violence or pressured into doing things like stealing or carrying drugs or weapons. They might be abused, exploited and put into dangerous situations.
Please see the information letter below for advice and details of who to contact if you are concerned about your child.

Year 11 exams
We are running a couple of additional revision sessions over the half term break. These optional sessions are as follows:
- Tuesday 28 May, 9:30-11:30am: Geography in Room 6
- Thursday 30 May, 10:30am-12:30pm: English Language in Room 29
We will be sharing an overview of the following week's exam timetable both in the newsletter and on social media throughout the exam season. Students are to attend their normal lessons unless there is an exam (colour coded as orange) or booster session (colour coded as blue) for their subjects.
We are also producing a weekly newsletter for Year 11 students containing information and advice about their exams. This week's edition can be downloaded via the following link:
