Message from our Principal
Winter Uniform
Week 5 saw our first block of colder weather for the year. When we are not used to this kind of cool weather, it can catch us by surprise and our uniform on the whole last week wasn’t looking as great as it usually does. Our P&C run uniform shop is open each Monday and Wednesday morning and we have a wide variety of options for students ranging from quite formal to very sporty and comfortable. There are MHS jumpers and hoodies available, and it would be preferable if students were wearing these rather than the plain black (no logos) jumpers and hoodies that are accepted as part of the uniform. Please leave the branded gear at home, it is not in the spirit of what a uniform does. A uniform at school brings us together and shows us that we belong. When we wear our uniform with pride, our sense of belonging increases. Please remember that fully enclosed (preferably black) shoes are not just uniform but are worn for safety. Ugg boots and slippers are not appropriate for school, please keep these for home comfort.
SRC and community engagement
Our SRC engaged in a forum last week with members of the Byron Shire Council. This was an opportunity for students to share their voice and expectations for the future. It was so great to hear about the quality of their feedback and what great representatives of the school community our students are.
Keeping Young People Safe Online
Parents and carers, there are a number of resources available to you on the Safety Commissioner's website to help you navigate the difficult task of ensuring our young people remain safe and respectful online. The following link https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/webinars will give you access to a range of webinars ranging in topics from recognising coercive control in young people’s lives to exploring the online experiences of boys and young men.
Athletics Carnival Postponed
This week, we have made the decision to postpone the Athletics Carnival from this Wednesday to this FRIDAY 6th June. The Oval is too wet and slippery after the rain. This is a regular and compulsory school day and also an opportunity for students to embrace the school and house spirit on the day and to challenge themselves physically. With a variety of activities, there is something for everyone. If students are unwell on the day, please follow regular protocols to advise the school.

Visiting Primary Schools and Sharing about the High School Experience
On Thursday, Ms Kellie Murphy and Ms Cindy Clarke took some past Main Arm Public School students back to their old school on a Year 6 Transition visit. The Year 6 students (and teachers) were so excited to see their past classmates and Shalev, Sakura and Louis helped allay any worries the Year 6 students had about moving into high school. They shared stories about high school and tips, and of course all of the wonderful opportunities on offer at MHS.
