FixBox Maria Angel Michel Prado

FixBox is a problem solver and a helper. It is a campus-based solution designed to help college students with car maintenance by providing both hands-on assistance and digital resources.

My Story

FixBox is special to me because it’s tied to my car, my baby. As a freshman commuter, I once felt stranded with a lost key and a flat tire. With no immediate help, a professor’s guidance and a locksmith’s aid became a lesson in self-reliance. This experience revealed the lack of on-campus car maintenance resources, inspiring FixBox to empower students with support, knowledge, and confidence to handle vehicle issues independently.

The Product.

How it works.

FixBox is a campus-based resource that combines hands-on car maintenance support with the tools to help college students manage their vehicles.

Through an on-site pop up shop and user-friendly app, students gain access a to repair guidance, exclusive discounts, monthly check-up reminders and they get to be a part of a community. FixBox offers a personalized and educational experience, equipping students with essential skills and while minimizing costs and socializing, right on campus.

Competition

FixBox is truly one of a kind because there’s nothing else like it. Nothing else has specifically targeted college students in the realm of car maintenance, despite the clear need for accessible, hands-on learning in this area. Many students, especially commuters, rely on their cars daily but lack the knowledge or resources to handle even basic repairs. FixBox fills this gap by creating an interactive, supportive environment where students can not only learn essential car care skills but also connect with peers facing similar challenges. By combining a physical space for hands-on learning with digital resources, FixBox makes car maintenance approachable, affordable, and something traditional auto shops and online sources alone fail to offer.

Personas

In today’s fast-paced college environment, students juggle academics, independence, and practical life skills, like car maintenance.

FixBox fills this gap by offering an affordable, hands-on space where students can learn essential car repair skills, gain confidence, and connect with peers. By addressing common issues like flat tires and basic repairs, FixBox empowers students like Jake, Sara, and Lucas with real-world knowledge that extends beyond the classroom.

Cultural Relevance

Visual Strategy

Choosing the perfect name for this project was no easy task. I wanted something that was simple yet impactful, a name that immediately conveyed the purpose of the project while being memorable and engaging. The brainstorming process took time, and during a class exercise designed to generate potential names, I explored different options that reflected the project’s mission. After careful consideration, I narrowed it down to three finalists: RepairU, Tool-Time, and FixBox. Each had its merits—RepairU emphasized the educational aspect, Tool-Time highlighted the hands-on nature of the project, but FixBox stood out the most. It struck the perfect balance between being catchy, functional, and relevant to the core concept. “Fix” represented the repair and learning component, while “Box” suggested the building shape, a resource, or even a physical space where students could come together to gain essential car maintenance skills.

Once the name was settled, I shifted my focus to the logo. Initially, I envisioned something illustrative, possibly incorporating a wrench, a car, or a toolbox. I experimented with different designs, testing various styles and elements, but none seemed to fully capture the essence of the project. After numerous attempts and revisions, the final design came about almost by accident—an unplanned but ultimately fitting representation of what FixBox stands for. It was a reminder that sometimes the best ideas emerge through the creative process rather than forcing a predetermined vision.

In the end, both the name and logo work together to encapsulate what FixBox is all about: a practical, community-driven initiative that empowers students by equipping them with real-world skills and confidence in maintaining their vehicles.

Marketing Strategy

It is a campus-based solution designed to help college students with car maintenance by providing both hands-on assistance and digital resources. The project addresses the financial burden and lack of accessible support that many college students face when dealing with vehicle upkeep. Unlike scattered or impersonal resources, FixBox integrates in-person guidance through a pop-up shop with a specialized app. This combination allows students to receive discounts, set up monthly check-up reminders, and gain practical car maintenance knowledge. Ultimately, FixBox empowers students by lowering costs and fostering confidence in vehicle care, an advantage that traditional resources do not offer.
