The Week Ahead
Morning Drop Off Reminders:
Please remember in morning drop off to pull all the way forward as directed by the staff in the loop! Also, please do not enter the parking spaces area to drop your student off and "skip the line." Doing so forces more students to use the crosswalk and slows down the flow of traffic in addition to creating a safety issue for those students as the morning gets darker. You can park in a space if your student doesn't get out of the car right away or needs more time to unload. If everyone pulls forward and listens to the staff out front, the line will move fast!
Turkey Trot Fundraiser Update:
The Turkey Trot is our biggest fundraiser of the year for MSE and the PCC. The Parent Community Connection group helps support ALL students and staff at MSE. Our focus is to provide opportunities that benefit each and every student in some way. One important way the PCC helps students is supporting extra clubs, activities, and extracurriculars for students---- MSE has a large number of student clubs and intramural sports that this money helps cover--such as Bowling Club, Cross Country, IM Volleyball and more!! This provides so many opportunities for students to get involved and connected at Middle School East. If every student at MSE gets just $50 in donations we would easily hit our goal!! Spread it to friends and family every single dollar helps!
Mrs. French's 1st Hour Class is currently in the lead for donations and has possession of "Turkey Tom!" Mrs. Richmond's 1st hour is close behind....trailing by just $35...or will Mrs. Winter's--currently in 3rd, close the gap...will we have a class that comes out of nowhere?? The leading class gets to keep Turkey Tom, so will he be on the move come Monday??!!
We are almost half way to our school-wide goal!
This week's Eagle of the Week is 8th Grader Joshua D. who was nominated by Mr./Coach Dropps who said "This student is what I would describe as an “old-fashioned” TRY-HARD! To me, this is the greatest compliment someone could label a student. Being a try-hard means to me that you are giving your all-out best at all times. This student stands out in whatever game/sport we play in PE class. His effort in class is unmatched and this is the reason why his teams in class typically win. This young man is respectful, kind and at the same time competitive. I look forward to seeing where he ends up down the road but for now, I am just happy to have him in my class and on my basketball team. My Eagle of the Week is 8th grader, Joshua D! Congratulation Josh and keep up the hard work."
Positive Referrals This Week
The following students were recognized with a "positive referral" to the office this week for exhibiting one of our MSE Character Traits or other positive behaviors! Thanks for being great! All of these students, and any for the rest of November, will be entered into our Monthly Raffle that is held during the Grade Level Meetings each month.
Monthly Positive Behavior Raffle
We will be hosting our monthly Positive Behavior raffle for any student who received a positive referral from a teacher or staff member in October. We are always looking for new prizes to raffle off for kids to pick from....click on the Monthly Raffle Amazon Wish List if there's something you would like to contribute!
Around MSE Last Week
WE: November
As we shifted the calendar into November, we shifted our Character Education theme of the month to "WE Choose Gratitude." MSE students spent last week's Character Ed mini lesson learning about the science behind gratitude and then writing notes of gratitude to students, parents, teachers, or other staff. We will gave our grade level meetings this Wednesday on Gratitude.
Attendance Reminders
At MSE, the goal this year is to reduce Chronic Absences in students. We understand the children get sick and things happen, but students should be in school as much as possible to learn and grow socially and academically. Every day they miss they fall further and further behind in academic areas. If your child is sick and misses school, a doctor/urgent care note is needed to excuse the absence. If there is no medical note for illness, or for appointments, the absence cowards towards your child's total and for Truancy purposes. If you need assistance with attendance, please reach out to the principals or your child's counselor for assistance.
Upcoming School Dance
MSE student Council will be hosting a Holiday dance this year on December 2nd from 3:00 - 4:30. More information will be coming. But in order to host we need many volunteers. IF you are able to help, please use the sign up link below! If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Conger at congesh@lc-ps.org.
The next PCC Meeting is Wednesday November 12 at 6:30 PM in the Kiva, come out and join the PCC!
MSE/LCPS Communication
We utilize the district's School Messenger platform to send out updates to parents, students, and staff. If you are not receiving School Messenger emails, please contact the main office and we can get you set up. There are times we also send out reminder text messages about upcoming events, or important information, if you have opted out in the past, please use the steps below to opt in for text messages as this is the easiest way to get a quick communication from MSE. This would also enroll you into district text messages for things like Snow Days or Emergency Communications from LCPS
