The Week Ahead!!
Attendance Matters!
Reminder that attendance matters at MSE! Students learn and grow best when they are in school learning and interacting with their peers and teachers. Attendance letters are going to start going out this week for students who have already reached a level of excessive absences with referral to the Macomb County Truancy Officer as needed. Please ensure that your child is in school! If they are sick, or have an appointment, a doctor's note is required for the absence. Also, remember that school starts at 8:00am and any student arriving after 8:00 will be assigned a tardy which adds up to disciplinary action. If you are driving your child to school make sure you leave enough time to get them to school on time.
If you feel your child needs additional support to be at school (such as anxiety or other mental health issues) please reach out to Mr. MacIntosh (assistant principal) or your child's school counselor, Mr. Alesi or Mrs. Hoskisson as we have a number of different programs and resources available to help support you and your child at Middle School East!!
Around MSE This Week
MSE Wellness Time / Recess
We officially kicked off recess/MSE Wellness Time this week as an opportunity during student lunch time for them to interact socially, be a kid, and burn off some energy for the second half of the day! Thank you to all the parents who donated items to make this possible so far! If you would still like to help out, please see the Amazon Wishlist below to help out as the more items we have, the more opportunities and activities kids can do!! We will take any new/used sports equipment and games and put it to good use! I have a very passionate group of kids asking about pickleball--and I have paddles and pickleballs, but if you know anyone who could donate more or a net let us know!
NWEA Testing Wrap Up
MSE students did a FANTASTIC job during our Fall NWEA Testing Window. They provided us with a lot of great data and information about where they're at in their learning and what we need to do as a staff to adapt, adjust, modify to meet their learning needs. We will be communicating results in the coming weeks to parents, especially those of students we feel might need some extra help, or move into an advanced class, but in the meantime if you are interested in obtaining a copy of your child's Family Report, or would like to see where their scores fell compared to their grade level, please reach out to Mr. MacIntosh at macinza@lc-ps.org
Eagle of the Week!
This week's Eagle of the Week is 6th Grader Rylinn R. who was nominated by her Social Studies Teacher Mrs. Budnick who wrote "Rylinn exudes everything that an East Eagle should be! She shines in class with her active participation in group discussions, and she always brings a positive attitude that is ready to learn. Rylinn's respect is unmatched; she is always there going out of her way to help staff and other peers with whatever they need. She is the first one to say good morning and ask about your day, continuously building positive relationships at school. Overall Rylinn is an exceptional student, and we are so lucky to have her here at MSE!"
Be the Change Winner!
This week's "Be the Change" Positive Office Referral winner of the week is Brielle C! Congrats on working hard in the classroom and being recognized by your teachers!

Chromebook Insurance
Please see the attached flier below for Chromebook insurance in case your student's device sustains any damage throughout the course of the year. If you are a 7th or 8th grade parent, you will need to renew your insurance policy if you bought it last year. With middle schoolers, things happen! The prices to repair a chromebook add up fast and the student and parent is responsible for any damage to the school device. Common fixes include a new screen (which would run parents $58 to fix) or when a key pops off, the entire keyboard needs to be replaced (at a cost of $72). It's a great idea to sign up for the device insurance!
