BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team snapped a 13-game skid, taking the first game of the doubleheader over Lynn, 7-3, on the road Saturday afternoon to even the series. However, the Knights took the rubber match of the series 14-3 in seven innings.
Eckerd took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning of the opener after scoring a run in each of the first two frames. Lynn tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning, but Kam Gelwick responded, giving the Tritons a 3-1 tilt with a solo shot in the third. The Knights added a solo homerun in the fourth, and both teams scored a run in the fifth, with the Tritons holding a 4-3 edge.
Eckerd padded its lead with three insurance runs in the ninth scoring on a passed ball, a sacrifice fly by Zade Stark, and an RBI double by Reid Lisle as the Tritons took the opener 7-3.
A two-run homer gave LU an early lead in the opening frame of the finale, but a Joey Bazydlo RBI in the second pulled Eckerd within one. After the Knights took a 3-1 favor in the bottom of the inning, EC rallied for a run in the third with an RBI from Ztark.
The Knights erupted for 10 runs over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Eckerd added a run in the fifth but was unable to push another run across, falling 14-3 in seven innings.
