Music Day
STRONG Day
Last Wednesday, December 13, our Character Committee organized the first STRONG Day of the year. The entire student body participated in a period of activities by grade level focused on our 4 R's: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Relationships. 6th graders played Pictionary with their 8th grade WEB Leaders and talked about how non-verbal cues are a form of communication and how to ask good questions. 7th graders played "Get to Know You" games, and learned how our brains create emotions and explain why we react to things the way we do. 8th graders were in several locations making personalized cards, placemats, and door decorations for veterans - by name - so they are not forgotten over the holidays. This past week students and staff from our STRONG Club took a trip to the Michigan Veterans Home in Chesterfield Township. The group was able to visit with two World War II vets who shared stories with them about that era. The veterans were so grateful for the company, conversation, and the gifts we brought to them, and our students were so happy they were able to learn from the veterans.
Holiday Adopt-a-Family
Many thanks to our Larson families who donated gifts and household items to our three LMS families in need. All the items were delivered earlier this week and each of our sponsored families expressed gratitude for this generous gesture. The Larson community delivered once again! Special thanks to Ms. Bunao for leading this worthy endeavor.
Larson TV Holiday Special!
Our Video Tech is proud to present their annual Holiday Special. The students worked hard to put this all together! Thanks to Mrs. Yousif for tackling this with the students!
Our Superintendent Student Advisory Students are in the process of preparing for our citywide MLK Day Celebration and Day of Service. Part of the effort is requesting donations of fleece to make blankets from our families and community members. With that said, can each of you please put the following note in your newsletters: Traditionally, our community makes more than 300 fleece no-sew blankets during our MLK Day of Service, and we rely on our families/community members for donations of fleece. Please consider helping us this year by donating fleece. If you will be out shopping over the next few days, please consider picking up a donation of fleece and sending it to school with your student. All donations of fleece should be in increments of 2.5 yards (so 2.5 yards, 5 yards, 7.5 yards, 10 yards, etc.) This way, they can match up with another piece without any waste. The earlier we receive the donations, the easier it is for the SSAB Team to prepare. Fleece is on sale right now at Joann's. Thank you for your support!
It's that time of year to prepare for the Larson Spelling Bee! This message includes the spelling bee lists by grade, the school-wide list, and timing. The classroom bee winner will be announced by Thursday, January 18. School-wide Spelling Bee will be Wednesday, February 7, during 3rd hour. Below are the different lists for the Spelling Bee.
Mrs. Loch, our media specialist, is excited to announce the TSD middle school Media Center’s 24th annual Troybery Reading Program potential nominees list. We have an excellent field of 28 books this year, all books published in 2022 and recommended by Troy students and teachers. You can access the list here:
The Troybery list is known for having a variety of books reflecting our students’ diverse interests, age levels, and backgrounds. Our goal is to promote a love for reading in our students. We encourage students to participate in our program by reading as many as they would like and by voting for their favorites. Mrs. Loch is happy to work with your child to find the “just right” book for them from the list.
A Troybery book could be an excellent choice if you are looking for a gift idea this holiday season. Your child will hear a presentation in the upcoming weeks about the Troybery program and our exciting selections.
You can visit the Troy Middle Schools Media Center website for more information about Troybery.
Attention all 7th grade students and parents- now’s the time to sign up for our fall 2024 8th grade trip to Washington DC. There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, January 23rd at 7 pm in the collaboration studio if you are interested in finding out more. Please contact Mrs. Jennifer Lee with any questions you may have jlee@troy.k12.mi.us
Student ID's
Please make sure your student has their ID on them at Larson. IDs help keep the flow of the lunch line moving and are necessary to check books and resources out of the media center. Thanks for your support!
Teacher of the Year Nominations
