Easter - The Power of the Resurrection

Easter stands at the heart of the Christian faith. It is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead—an event that changed history and offers hope to every person, in every generation. More than just a symbol of new life or a time of family gatherings and chocolate eggs, Easter proclaims the most powerful truth Christians hold dear: Jesus is risen, and through Him, we too can have life.

The events of Easter begin in darkness. On Good Friday, we remember the crucifixion of Jesus—His suffering, His death, and the immense love He showed in giving His life for us. Jesus, though innocent, willingly bore the weight of our sin so that we could be restored to our relationship with God. This sacrifice was not the end of the story, but the beginning of something new and extraordinary.

On Easter Sunday, the tomb is found empty. Jesus has risen from the dead, conquering sin and death. The resurrection is the ultimate victory—it confirms that Jesus is who He claimed to be: the Son of God, the Saviour of the world. It offers the promise that all who trust in Him will share in His resurrection life, both now and forever. This is the foundation of Christian hope.

Easter is not just a story from long ago; it has meaning for us today. In the resurrection, we are offered forgiveness for our sins, the chance to be made new, and the assurance that death does not have the final word. It is a message that brings comfort in grief, peace in uncertainty, and purpose in every season of life.

For students and staff alike, Easter challenges us to reflect on how we live in light of this truth. If Jesus truly rose from the dead, then everything changes. We are called to live not for ourselves, but for Him—to walk in His ways, to love as He loved, and to share the good news of His victory with others. It means choosing forgiveness over bitterness, hope over despair, and faith over fear.

As a Christian school community, Easter reminds us of our identity in Christ. We are a people shaped by grace, called to shine His light in the world. In our learning, our relationships, and our service to others, we are invited to reflect the love and power of the risen Lord.

As we return from the Easter break, may our hearts be filled with gratitude for what Jesus has done. May we find strength in the knowledge that He is alive and at work in our lives. And may we live each day in the joy and hope of the resurrection.

He is risen! He is risen indeed.

I pray that every student, staff member, and family will have a blessed and joyful Easter season.

Eggs and Easter

In early pagan Europe, eggs were seen as a symbol of new life* - something very real to our Year 2 and Ag students who saw chickens hatch in their incubators this term!

Early Christians liked the same symbolism and adopted the egg at Easter as a symbol of new life in Christ.

The Bible says that Jesus died on a Roman cross, was buried in a tomb and 3 days later came back to life (see Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John for eyewitness accounts). Jesus got up and left his tomb like a chick leaves an empty shell.

The Bible also says that this amazing event is life-changing for all humans…

Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die”. - John 11:25-26 (NLT)

So, when you see a chocolate egg this Easter (introduced by Cadbury in 1875) think about the life of Jesus as he left an empty tomb behind him and think also of his gift of life to those who believe.
