MCTV Videos in Honor of Black History Month

At their February 1st City Council Meeting, the Council Proclamation called on the larger community to study Black life, history, and culture. Our partners at Millbrae Community Television, a non-profit TV station and media center, have made this readily available by way of vignettes that can be accessed via this playlist on their YouTube channel. We thank them for creating these videos and sharing them with the community online and on Ch. 27.

Taking a Deep Dive into our Archives

This week, Max Clee was visiting from Boston where he's a PhD candidate in American and New England Studies at Boston University. His dissertation is entitled, “Trash and Treasure: The Changing Culture of Waste Disposal in the USA 1945-1975.” Last month, he reached out to staff indicating he was writing about the history of San Francisco’s waste disposal, and was directed to our history books. He read through The First 25 Years (1961 - 1986), but was still interested in archival materials stored in the Archive Room located at City Hall while in-town. If you would like to see anything from the City's archives, please check out the catalog and reach out to staff to make an appointment by emailing history@brisbaneca.org.

This past Tuesday, I presented a brief overview of Baylands Development Inc.'s (BDI) application for a Revised Specific Plan. The draft environmental document (Environmental Impact Report, or EIR) will be publicly available in late spring (June likely) for the public to comment on. The consultant will then draft responses to those comments, with the public hearings before the Planning Commission commencing in 2025. To view a video of the meeting, which also features presentations from the Baylands' regulatory agencies, the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and the SF Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, please visit BBCAG's website. Their slide presentations are also available.
