At VoicED, the college consulting process is personalized and tailored to the individual student’s needs. Each year, our students get accepted to the top 20 universities in the US and Europe, often with five or six-digit scholarships.

BECOME A STAND-OUT STUDENT

Colleges prefer students who clearly show initiative, ambition, and intellectual curiosity. This is illustrated through grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities. VoicED advisors mentor students one-on-one on cultivating their interests and talents, beginning as early as the spring of 8th grade, to create a strong sense of drive and passion.

Initial Consultation

At VoicED, the journey begins with a thorough assessment of your unique background and qualifications. We take a close look at every aspect of your profile, including standardized test scores, coursework, extracurricular activities, work experience, and goals. This candid evaluation helps us identify both strengths to amplify and areas to address, ensuring you’re well-positioned for compatibility with a range of colleges. Our goal is to establish a clear roadmap tailored to your aspirations.

Strategic Planning

Crafting a compelling narrative is at the heart of successful college applications, and VoicED excels at helping students uncover and communicate their unique stories. Building on insights from our initial consultation, we engage in focused one-on-one brainstorming sessions to highlight your distinct talents and experiences. Together, we’ll create a strategic plan to make your application stand out among a pool of qualified candidates. Beyond applications, we’ll guide your high school career planning to showcase your intellectual curiosity and interests through carefully selected courses, standardized tests, and extracurricular pursuits.

Profile Development

Colleges seek passionate and driven candidates. At VoicED, we help transform your interests into measurable accomplishments that resonate with admissions committees. By leveraging early strategies, we support the development of your extracurricular profile through leadership opportunities, research projects, summer programs, and other tailored activities that align with your specific passions.

The result? A competitive and compelling profile that reflects your commitment and potential.

Application Outlining

Every college applicant has a unique story to share, but crafting a compelling narrative from years of achievements can feel daunting. At VoicED, we simplify this process. Through personalized one-on-one brainstorming sessions, we gather insights into your experiences and aspirations. From there, we help you develop detailed outlines for each personal statement, providing clear frameworks that reflect your individuality and offer precise roadmaps for crafting winning narratives. Our goal is to reduce stress and ensure your story resonates with admissions committees.

Unlimited Personal Statement Revisions

VoicED is committed to perfecting your personal statements. Our experts meticulously review your drafts, offering feedback that goes beyond technical edits to enhance the authenticity and impact of your narrative. We work with you to ensure your story is compelling, concise, and adheres to word count requirements. There are no limits on the number of revisions—we are dedicated to achieving a final product you are proud of.

Post-Acceptance Strategy

Our support doesn’t stop with your application submission. After you’ve received your acceptance letters, we provide personalized guidance to help you select the best-fit college based on your background, interests, and long-term goals. Additionally, we assist with pursuing scholarships, awards, and any other accomplishments to bolster your profile through the end of the school year. At VoicED, we’re with you every step of the way, from application to acceptance and beyond.

Transforming a Blank Slate into Ivy League Success: A VoicED Story

Emma, a sophomore at College Prep High, came to VoicED with strong academic credentials but a major challenge: she lacked a clear passion or direction outside the classroom. Emma’s family had high hopes for her to attend an Ivy League school, particularly Princeton, where her older sister was a standout alum. However, Emma’s resume was sparse when it came to extracurricular activities, and she felt overwhelmed by the idea of standing out among other highly accomplished applicants.

In their initial consultation, Emma and her VoicED counselor focused on uncovering hidden interests and exploring potential pathways. Through targeted brainstorming, Emma revealed a budding interest in environmental science from a class project and a curiosity about advocacy work. Together, they devised a plan for her to explore these areas in depth.

Over the next two years, VoicED guided Emma in building a meaningful profile. She joined her school’s Environmental Club and, with her counselor’s encouragement, applied for leadership roles. She also participated in summer research programs on climate change and founded a local initiative to reduce single-use plastics in her community. VoicED helped her document these accomplishments and translate them into compelling narratives for her college applications.

By senior year, Emma had transformed into a well-rounded, driven applicant with a clear passion for environmental advocacy. Her VoicED counselor worked closely with her to ensure her essays highlighted both her personal growth and her contributions to the community. When application results came in, Emma was thrilled to gain early admission to Princeton.

Emma’s journey with VoicED exemplifies how personalized guidance and strategic planning can turn uncertainty into opportunity, helping students not only achieve their college goals but also discover their purpose along the way.

It takes time and hard work to see the final acceptance letters. This is a great moment and a right of passage.

Most students apply to about 20 schools and write about 40 application essays.

Our personalized college consulting service is available for a flat rate of $10,000 for the entire school year. The guidance provided will be tailored to the individual student's profile, encompassing most of the listed options. These include 1:1 meetings, access to a customized college profile and tools, application assistance, guidance on summer pre-college programs, support for passion projects, standardized testing advice, and more.

For some students, especially those aiming for highly competitive colleges or specialized programs, the application process can be extensive and requires a substantial number of essays in addition to the Personal Statement and portfolio. Here's why:

1. Supplemental Essays: Many colleges, particularly selective ones, require applicants to write supplemental essays besides the main personal statement. These essays often prompt students to delve deeper into their interests, experiences, and aspirations, providing admissions committees with more nuanced insights into their candidacy.

2. Program-Specific Essays: Students applying to specialized programs within universities, such as honors colleges, scholarship programs, or specific majors, may be required to submit additional essays tailored to those programs. These essays typically focus on the student's fit for the program, academic and extracurricular achievements, and future goals.

3. Portfolio Essays: In fields like engineering, architecture, art, design, or creative writing, film and applicants might submit a portfolio showcasing their work alongside reflective essays explaining their artistic process, influences, and goals. Additionally, many competitive universities suggest that students submit portfolios or written work to assess their writing skills as the ultimate way to evaluate a student's intellectual curiosity. These essays contextualize the portfolio pieces and demonstrate the applicant's thoughtfulness and self-awareness as an artist or creator.

4. Scholarship Essays: Students seeking financial aid or scholarships often need to submit essays outlining their academic achievements, leadership experiences, community involvement, and plans. These essays help scholarship committees assess the applicant's eligibility, merit, and alignment with the organization's values or goals.

5. Optional Essays: Some colleges offer optional essay prompts for students to provide additional context or address specific aspects of their application, such as academic challenges, gaps in education, or extenuating circumstances. While optional, these essays can be beneficial for students to showcase resilience, growth, or unique perspectives.

6. Program-Specific Prompts: Certain programs or colleges may have unique essay prompts tailored to their institutional values, academic philosophy, or community culture. These prompts often require thoughtful reflection and research to craft compelling responses that align with the program's mission and expectations.

Given the diverse array of essay requirements across different colleges, programs, and scholarship opportunities, students may write around 30 or more essays throughout the application process. Each essay presents an opportunity for students to demonstrate their academic abilities, personal qualities, and fit for their desired college or program, making thorough preparation and strategic planning essential for success.
