Quay Academy Newsletter November 2025

Message from Caroline Broadhead, Principal

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half term break. It’s wonderful to have everyone back in school as we begin what promises to be another busy and exciting half term in the run-up to Christmas.

Looking back at the first half term, there is so much to celebrate. One of the highlights was undoubtedly our incredible immersive art exhibition, where families joined us for a seaside experience! It was a joy to see parents and carers exploring the creative displays, admiring the children’s artwork, and enjoying an ice cream and candy floss as part of the fun. Thank you for your fantastic support in making the event such a success — it was a great way to celebrate our pupils’ talent and imagination.

We also had an excellent turnout at Parents’ Evening, and it was lovely to see so many of you taking the opportunity to talk with teachers about your child’s progress and achievements. Your continued partnership plays such an important role in supporting our pupils’ learning and development.

Our children have also had some fantastic experiences beyond the classroom. Year 6 enjoyed their Into University focus weeks, inspiring them to think about their futures and develop new aspirations. Memorable moments of this week included visits to Eden Camp and York University, both of which provided wonderful opportunities for learning, exploration, and fun.

As we move into the second half of the term, we look forward to another exciting few weeks of learning, progress, and festive celebrations. There’s plenty to look forward to, and we look forward to sharing more wonderful experiences with you all as we approach the Christmas season.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.

YOU SAID, WE DID

We always value and listen to your feedback. In response to suggestions from parents, we extended our Parents’ Evening appointments to include later time slots this term. We hope this helped make it easier for everyone to come in, meet with teachers, and celebrate their children’s progress. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and helping us continue to improve our school community.

Our immersive art exhibition

Our recent school art exhibition was a wonderful celebration of creativity and community. Quay’s school hall was transformed into an immersive seaside scene, filled with colour, texture, and imagination, as every child’s artwork was proudly displayed. Inspired by our Take One Picture painting of Canaletto’s Regatta on the Grand Canal we linked to our own seaside town of Bridlington. Special thanks go to Mrs. Wilde, whose vision, dedication, and hard work brought this stunning display to life. We are also very grateful to all the parents and families who attended and continue to support the school and our young artists.

Visits this Term

Year 6 -Intouniversity focus weeks

Year 6 took part in the IntoUniversity Focus Week, where they explored the fascinating topic of World War Two through a range of hands-on and engaging activities. The children also expanded their understanding of further education with an inspiring visit to York University, where they learned more about university life and future opportunities.

The week ended with a special graduation ceremony to celebrate everything they had achieved. The children gained so much from the experience — developing new skills, building confidence, and deepening their curiosity about learning.

A huge thank you to the IntoUniversity team and everyone involved for making this such a memorable and enriching week for our pupils!

Year 3 Ambassadors of Bridlington

Year 3 had a fantastic time taking part in the Brilliant Bridlington Ambassador Trip with the Children’s University. During the day, the children learned all about the different local businesses that help our town thrive. They explored the local area, spoke to business owners, and even conducted their own surveys to find out more about how Bridlington works as a community.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop their confidence, teamwork, and communication skills — all while having a great time representing our school as true Bridlington Ambassadors!

A big thank you to the Children’s University and everyone who helped make the trip such an exciting and inspiring experience.

Year 6 HFR Solutions CIC

Year 6 had a fantastic day taking part in hands-on learning experiences at HFR Solutions CIC. The children learned all about the important work of the emergency services and developed vital life skills, including how to perform CPR.

It was an exciting and educational day that gave the children valuable knowledge and confidence in how to respond safely in an emergency situation. A big thank you to the team at HFR Solutions CIC for providing such an engaging and memorable experience!

Yorkshire Water SUDs sessions

We’ve been so fortunate this term to work with Yorkshire Water, taking part in a series of engaging, hands-on workshops all about sustainable drainage systems SUDS. The sessions have helped our pupils understand how we can all use water more responsibly and protect our environment for the future.

Yorkshire Water have also taught us valuable lessons about water safety and how to use water sustainably in our everyday lives. We’re really looking forward to taking part in the upcoming workshops this half term and continuing to build on what we’ve learned!

Clubs at Quay

We’re delighted to remind families that a range of extra-curricular clubs are still available at Quay Academy — and there are a few spaces left! These clubs are a great way for pupils to explore new interests, develop skills, and have fun with friends. If your child would like to join, please contact the school office to reserve a place before they fill up.

Please note that our Breakfast Club and After School Club (wraparound care) are separate from the extra-curricular activities. From January 2026, the prices for these sessions will be increasing slightly to help us continue providing a high-quality service:

• Breakfast Club: £2.50 per session

• After School Club: £3.00 per session

We appreciate your continued support and understanding, and we look forward to seeing pupils enjoying both our wraparound care and exciting extra-curricular opportunities!
