Nukumea Newsletter Term 1, Week 11

Kia ora koutou! We are now in the last couple of days of our first term in our beautiful new buildings and there is lots happening. This newsletter is chock full of info about events from the last two weeks as well as info about events coming up soon.

Nukumea Represent!

A massive congratulations to Ianke Coetser for representing Nukumea at the Inter School Swimming Champs. She is our first ever inter school sports representative and did really well. She competed in both the Freestyle and Backstroke events and did particularly well in the Backstroke race. We are super proud of you Ianke, well done!

On Sunday 7th April, Max Liu and his family ran the Shore to Shore 5km fun run, representing Nukumea. They had a great time as you can see from the photos below. Hopefully next year we can get a large group from our Nukumea community to take part in this fun event together!

Outside In - From Nebulae to Nukumea Thursday, April 11th 4-6pm

We are really looking forward to seeing lots of you tomorrow night to celebrate the learning that has been going on at Nukumea this term. Through our concept of Diversity, we have been exploring a variety of different contexts in exciting ways.

  • Korimako (Years 4-6) will be sharing different features of planets of our solar system, both real and imagined.
  • Kōkopu (Years 1-3) will be sharing the many different foods and culinary delights found around Earth.
  • Inanga (Years 0-1) will be sharing their explorations and construction of different buildings and structures around Earth.

For all groups, there will be opportunities for students to interact with different activities, listen to and watch a variety of presentations and demonstrations. The times are as follows:

  • 4-5pm parents, caregivers & their children visit different displays and activities between classes and learning areas
  • 5-5:30pm - Student Performance & Video Sharing in Hall
  • 5:30-6pm - additional time for interaction with displays and activities.

Garden Build Working Bee

A huge thank you to all those who came along to help us build our garden last Saturday. It was amazing to have so many of you there on a grey, drizzly morning and is another sign of how awesome our Nukumea community is. The great crew from Oke Gardens provided us with amazing products and our Nukumea team put together the garden so efficiently, we had to rush to get the barbecue lunch underway an hour early! There will be more official footage coming next term, but here are a few photos snapped on the day for if you haven't been able to walk by and check out our garden yet.

Strategic Plan

The school Board have approved our Strategic Plan for the next two years as shown below. We did a lot of work on this during the establishment phase of the school, so our goals remain the same. It is really the initiatives to reach those goals that have been updated for us to focus on over the next two years.

Official Opening

After a year in temporary buildings and a term in the new buildings while the last details are finished off, it is now time for us to officially open the school buildings. We are being joined by the Minister of Education, Erica Stanford, to open the buildings and plant a tree to commemorate their opening. Please see the invite below which has also been emailed to you. If you are available to be there on the day, we would love to have you with us for this big occasion. Please RSVP to office@nukumea.school.nz

Many of you will have seen the fitness classes that Alison has been running during Term 1. These will continue in Term 2 but also exciting news that a special Parents and Kids School holiday Workout is happening on Tuesday 23rd April!

We hope that you have a safe and wonderful school holidays together and look forward to seeing you all back next term.
