Oral History Project - Interviewing the Dettmer Brothers
The past two Fridays, Brisbane filmmaker Keith Moreau has been back in the saddle interviewing long-time Brisbane residents for the City's Oral History Project. Last week, Bob Dettmer was here, and today, his brother Bill came in to meet with Keith. In the coming weeks, Keith will be readying a short, 5-minute video that will be shown at the Artists' Evening of Sharing, taking place on Saturday, February 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Mission Blue. In addition to several videos, there will be dancing, music, and visual arts. Below is your visual reminder to not miss this year's Artists' Evening of Sharing event, which is in its 22nd year!
Did you know that school-age children are welcomed to join this free event? It's a great opportunity to expose them to different art forms as they listen and observe 14 of Brisbane's artists tell about their work. To pique their interest, and perhaps yours, check out Keith's Sharing Artists Sharing site!
New Art Exhibit at City Hall: "Of Biblical Proportions"
Speaking of art, the newest installation in City Hall's large conference room is Beth Grossman's 17 ft. scroll, titled "Of Biblical Proportions". The show will be up until mid-April, 2024.
The new cycles of our extreme seasons are bringing destruction of biblical proportions to our landscape. New stories for each season are being written by nature on the landscape leaving its next mark. Our expanding climate language recognizes the state of our new reality.
See Beth's 17' x 2' acrylic on canvas during City Hall's Public Walk-in Hours. You may want to also give the Parks and Recreation Front Office a call to make sure there isn't a meeting occurring when you plan to stop in. That number is 415-508-2140.
