TODAY
- The SMSU soccer program (0-0, 0-0 NSIC) opens its 30th season today hosting the Dakota State Trojans (0-4-1 NAIA).
- The game kicks off at 1 p.m.
- SMSU is coming off a 2-14-2 (2-10-2 NSIC) season in 2024.
2025 OUTLOOK
- SMSU head coach Clay Glasgow, entering his fourth season, returns 11 letter winners from 2024 and features six seniors, seven sophomores, five sophomores, and six freshmen.
- The Mustangs are hoping to rely on seniors Brooke Wetterstrom and Laney Brill, who were selected as an NSIC 'Player to Watch'.
- Junior Malorie Maderak, who scored three goals last season, will hope to add to her career total, meanwhile juniors Illjana Arbaugh and Sophia Sonnek will look to solidify the Mustang defense after playing in all 18 games last season.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Stella Litzen returns after starting in five games last season, making 23 saves in those games.
HEAD COACH CLAY GLASGOW
- Clay Glasgow is in his fourth season as head coach and has a record of 11-32-10 overall, including 11-25-7 in NSIC play. He was hired as the sixth head coach in program history on Feb. 25, 2022.
- Glasgow came to SMSU after spending eight seasons (2014-21) as head women's soccer coach at Dakota Wesleyan University (S.D.) recording a mark of 49-86-5.
- During his last two seasons at DWU, the Tigers amassed back-to-back winning seasons and qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament both seasons.

- SMSU and Dakota State will meet on the pitch for the first time on Sunday.
SCOUTING DAKOTA STATE
- The Dakota State Trojans women's soccer team are entering their first year of competition. The Trojans are led by head coach Todd Stank.
- Dakota State have opened their season with five consecutive home matches and hosted Morningside (Iowa), an exhibition opponent of SMSU's this season, on Wednesday night, losing 4-0.
- The newcomers to women's soccer will start their program in the Continental Athletic Conference, the NAIA's independent conference.
SMSU PICKED 12TH IN NSIC PRESEASON POLL
- SMSU was selected 12th in the 16 team NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- NSIC regular season and tournament champions Minnesota State was selected as the favorite to win the conference again, with 14 first place votes (coaches can't vote for their own school) and 224 points.
- Concordia-St. Paul finished in second place with 202 points and a first-place vote, followed by Bemidji State in third place with 177 points. Fourth place St. Cloud State received a first-place vote and 176 points, and Augustana rounds out the top five with 169 points
SEASON OPENERS
- SMSU is 6-21-1 all-time in season openers following last season's 3-0 loss versus West Florida.
- The Mustangs' last season-opening victory came in 2021 with a 1-0 win at Black Hills State.
MUSTANG HISTORY
- SMSU is in its 30th season of soccer in 2025 and 29th season of competition (2020 was canceled).
- The Mustangs have compiled an all-time record of 165-310-39, including 120-180-26 in NSIC games.
- SMSU has made 14 NSIC tournaments and played in the region championship of the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
- SMSU has recorded four winning seasons in program history with the last coming in 2019.
