LT Athletics Fall 2023

Boys Cross Country

2nd Place WSC - 3rd Place Regional - 2nd Place Sectional - 4th Place in State

The Boys Cross Country Team had multiple top finishes during the course of the 2023 fall season. One highlight included qualifying for and finishing in 13th place in the exclusive Nike Xc Town Invite in Indiana.

Then they went on to 2nd Place in the highly competitive West Suburban Conference Meet. After conference they finished in 3rd place at the IHSA Regional.

The boys cross country team finished in 2nd place in the toughest sectional in the state. With their 2nd place finish, they advanced to the IHSA state meet as a team.

At the state meet, they took 4th place as a team. They were led by all state performances from Cillian Henning and Nick Strayer. Cillian took 15th place as an individual and Nick finished in 18th place. Both earned all-state medals for their finishes.

Girls cross country

3rd Place in the West Suburban Conference - 2nd Place IHSA Regional Meet - 6th Place IHSA Sectional Meet - 12th Place in State

The Girls Cross Country Team had multiple top finishes during the course of the 2023 fall season. They started their season with a strong finish in the LT Kuharic Invitational. After finishing in the top 10 in multiple large meets, LT finished in 3rd place in the competitive WSC.

In the IHSA Regional Meet, LT finished in 2nd place as a team. Three runners Anna Bylsma (6th), Lauren Bohringer (7th) and Julianne Melby (8th) finished in the top 10 at the regional to lead the lions.

At the IHSA Sectional meet, Madison Findley (19th) and Julianne Melby (20th) led the team. The team finished in 6th place to advance to state as a team.

LT finished their season with a 12th place state finish as a team.

Football

Finished with a Record of 7-4 - 4-2 in the West Suburban Conference - 3rd Place Western Suburban Conference - Playoff Qualifier - Advanced to the Sweet 16

Finished in the Top 16 in 8A Playoffs

The lions finished the season with a 7-4 record. They finished 4-2 in the WSC which earned them 3rd place in the conference.

For the second time in a row, LT beat Hinsdale Central at home in front of a packed house. The final score was a decisive 42-17.

LT made the playoffs with a 6-3 record and traveled to Stevenson High School for the first round matchup. They beat Stevenson 31-6 to advance to the sweet 16.

In the second round of the playoffs, the lions hosted the York Dukes for the second time this season. They fell in a close game with York 17-14 to be eliminated from the playoffs. LT had two all state players in 2023. They were Ryan Jackson (1st team IHSFCA) and Eddie Tuerk (1st Team Champaign News-Gazette, Honorable Mention IHSFCA).

Girls Golf

6-4 overall record - 6-3 in the West Suburban Conference - Finished 5th Place in the West Suburban Conference - 3rd Place IHSA Regional Meet - 3rd Place IHSA Sectional Meet - 10th Place Finish at IHSA State Meet

The girls golf team had many successes during the 2023 season. During the regular season they went 6-3 in dual meets. At the Plainfield North Invitational, they finished in second place as a team.

The girls took fifth place in the West Suburban Conference after a very close conference tournament.

LT finished in 3rd place at the IHSA Regional Championships and advanced to Sectional as a team. They also finished in 3rd place as a team in the IHSA Sectional Tournament to qualify for state as a team.

The team finished in 10th place in the IHSA State Tournament. Isabella Evans, Keira Kessler, Amelia Van Vuren and Addison Watanabe all played well enough on day 1 to qualify for day 2 of the state tournament.

Boys Golf

8-2 dual meet record - 4-2 in the West Suburban Conference - 2nd Place in the WSC - 2nd Place in the IHSA Regional

The boys golf team went 4-2 in the dual season and finished in 2nd place in the West Suburban Conference. They went 8-2 overall in dual meets.

In the IHSA Regional, the lions took second place to advance to the IHSA Sectional Tournament, which was hosted by Lyons Township. Anderson Palm led the lions in the Regional and shot a 72 to take home a 5th place medal in the tournament

LT finished the IHSA Sectional tournament in sixth place. Finley Tyrrell led the lions by shooting and 72. Finley's score was good enough to qualify him for state as an individual.

Boys Soccer

Finished with a record of 20 - 7 - 2 - 3-3 in the WSC - 4th West Suburban Conference - Won the IHSA Regional - Won the IHSA Sectional - Won the IHSA Super-Sectional - Won 2nd Place Trophy in IHSA State

The boys soccer program went 20-7-2 overall in another exciting season.

LT won the championship of the Body Armor Tournament early in the season.

Their playoff run started by winning the IHSA Regional hosted by LT by beating conference opponents Downers Grove North 5-1. LT kept their playoff run going with a Sectional Final victory over top seeded Morton.

LT continued to beat Stagg and Naperville North in the Super-Sectional and State Semi-Final Game to advance to the State Championship game. They fell to New Trier in the Finals to take 2nd place in state. Collin Sullivan earned all-state honors (Illinois Soccer Coaches Association) for his play in the 2023 season.

Girls Swimming and Diving

5-0 Overall Record - 5-0 WSC Record - 1st Place in West Suburban Conference

IHSA Sectional Champions - 4th Place in State

The LT Girls Swimming and Diving Team had a great season ending with a fourth place finish in the state meet. They finished with a 5-0 dual meet record and finished in the top of many competitive invitationals.

The girls swimming and diving team won the IHSA Sectional Tournament. They had individuals qualify for 13 races and all three relays qualified for the state meet.

The LT girls swimming and diving program had eight individuals who won state medals and were awarded All-State honors. They are Kylie Thompson, Lauren Jablonski, Maeve Collins, Audrey Caviliere, Lindsey Forbaugh, Tess Walker, Ella Jean Kelly and Libby Langan.

LT finished the season with a strong showing at the IHSA State Meet. They earned top 16 finishes in three relays and six individual events to earn their 4th place team state finish.

Girls Tennis

14-5 in Head to Head Dual Meets - 3-3 Record in the West Suburban Conference - 4th Place in the WSC - 5th Place in the IHSA Sectional Tournament

The girls tennis program competed against some of the best teams in the state again this year. They compiled a 14-5 record in head to head matches.

The girls tennis team came in second place in the Naperville Invitational and won the Homewood Flossmoor Quad. They finished their season in 4th place in the West Suburban Conference.

The LT girls tennis team competed in the IHSA Sectional. Both doubles teams made it to the state qualifying round, but lost to ranked opponents. They were able to finish in fifth place as a team in the Sectional Tournament.

Girls Volleyball

30-8 overall record - 3-3 in WSC - 3rd Place in West Suburban Conference - IHSA Regional Champions - Finished Season Ranked 10th in the state of Illinois

The Lions had another amazing season. They won 30 matches over the course of the season against other state ranked teams and competed in highly competitive tournaments. One highlight was winning the Main West Pumpkin Tournament.

The team got out to a strong start by sweeping their first three quads and going 2-0 at their final invitational in October.

They cruised to two victories in the regional at Riverside-Brookfield High School to win the IHSA Regional Title and advanced to the IHSA Sectional Tournament.

In the Sectional semi-final, they lost to the team who eventually finished in 3rd place in the 4A state final and LT finished the season ranked in 10th place. LT had three All-State Athletes this past season. Kiley Mahoney (2nd Team Illinois Volleyball Coaches Association), Abby Markworth (Honorable Mention IVCA) and Grace Turner (Honorable Mention IVCA).

The LT Fall Season was incredibly successful. There were 5 teams who finished their IHSA season in the top 10 (Boys Soccer (2nd), Boys Cross Country (4th), Girls Swimming and Diving (4th), Girls Golf (10th) and Girls Volleyball (10th)). Two other teams finished with a top 25 finish in the state (Girls Cross Country (12th) and Football (Top 16). Two teams won Regional Championships (Girls Volleyball, and Boys Soccer). Two teams won Sectional Plaques (Girls Swimming and Diving and Boys Soccer) and Boys Soccer won a Super-sectional on their way to the 2nd place state trophy.

There were also 8 student athletes who attended the National Letter of Intent signing day on November 8th (Brady Chamber, Brennan Israel, Abby Markworth, Quinn Mateja, Peyton O'Flaherty, Josie Pochocki, Collin Sullivan, Grace Turner).

Sixteen student-athletes earned all-state honors in five different sports:

  • Boys Cross Country 2 (Nicholas Strayer and Cillian Henning)
  • Football 2 (Ryan Jackson and Eddie Tuerk)
  • Boys Soccer 1 (Collin Sullivan)
  • Girls Swimming 8 (Kylie Thompson, Lauren Jablonski, Maeve Collins, Audrey Caviliere Lindsey Forbaugh, Tess Walker, Ella Jean Kelly and Libby Langan)
  • Girls Volleyball 3 (Kiley Mahoney, Abby Markworth and Grace Turner)

There were also 130 seniors who earned West Suburban Conference All-Academic status this fall.
