TEACHING AND LEARNING

Teachers in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade will soon share or have already shared progress updates for students using the Standards-Based Report Cards (SBRC) in all subject areas. Students will receive a number 1-4 corresponding to their level of mastery for each skill or learning standard addressed. For more information, please watch our SBRC Parent University Video and/or view our Presentation. If you have any questions about understanding your child’s score, please contact your child’s teacher and they will be happy to assist you.

There are a number of great resources for parents under the Department of Instruction and Personnel page on our website, including Learning Frameworks, Program Summaries, Advanced Programs information, and Assessment information. Please contact your child’s Principal if you have any questions about the instructional programming for your child.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY & COMMUNICATIONS

The Instructional Technology Committee's primary focus in the 2023-24 school year is to migrate from an acceptable use policy to a modern and meaningful D76 Student Responsible Use Policy. Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs) primarily list prohibited behaviors and potential consequences, often written in complex legal terms, making them difficult for many to understand and follow. In contrast, Responsible Use Policies (RUPs) focus on promoting positive behaviors and setting clear expectations, emphasizing ownership of one's digital footprint. Shifting from AUPs to RUPs means guiding students towards creating responsible digital impressions that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Over the past few months the Instructional Technology Committee has met with a variety of stakeholders including teachers, administrators and students to obtain valuable insight as we start to develop the foundation of a high quality policy for our D76 students.

Student Services

D76 hosts Parent University on a variety of topics. In October, the topic was Preventing Drug and Alcohol Use. If you were unable to attend, the presentation and recorded virtual session is available on our Parent University webpage. On November 15, 2023, D76 will host the next Parent University on Social Emotional Learning: Bullying, Mental Health, Positive Strategies.

During the week of October 23rd, the three schools will be participating in Red Ribbon week. Red Ribbon Week is a national drug abuse prevention campaign which focuses on raising awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The goal is to encourage students and community members to make a commitment to a drug-free, healthy lifestyle.
