Upcoming State and District Required Assessments:

In our spring semester we will be administering annual state and district required assessments. Please make note of the dates for the assessments your child will be taking and, whenever possible, please avoid absences during the testing periods. Please note that, on testing days, if students arrive late after testing has begun, they will not be able to join their class until testing has completed for the day. Having students on time and present on testing days helps us gather valuable data while minimizing interruptions to daily instruction. Please help us meet that goal!

Typically, assessments begin in the morning and conclude each day prior to lunch.

The Impact of School Threats

While most threats do not materialize into actual danger, the psychological impact on students, teachers, and parents is profound. Fear, anxiety, and the disruption of daily activities undermine the safe learning environment schools strive to maintain. Additionally, dealing with these threats often leads to school closures, emergency procedures, and increased security measures, which can further strain educational resources.

What Can Be Done?

  1. Education and Awareness: Schools must educate students on the seriousness of making threats and the consequences they can face. School Resource Officers teach 6th and 9th graders about school threats and the consequences they can have.
  2. Preparedness and Protocols: Schools need to have clear, practiced emergency protocols in place. Regular drills, updated safety plans, and partnerships with local law enforcement help ensure that all staff and students know how to respond in the event of a real threat.
  3. Poudre School District uses the Standard Response Protocol provided by the I Love You Guys Foundation. All schools in Poudre School District complete three lockdown drills. The Poudre School District also completes a fire drill every month.
  4. Encourage Reporting: A crucial step in preventing threats from escalating is encouraging students, teachers, and parents to report suspicious activity immediately. Poudre School District utilizes Safe2Tell for students to make anonymous reports.
  5. Support Systems: Poudre School District provides mental health resources and counseling to students who may feel isolated or are struggling with anger or distress. Proactive mental health initiatives can reduce the likelihood of violence.

While threats to schools remain a concern, the collaborative effort between school officials, law enforcement, and the community is key in ensuring safety. Everyone plays a role in fostering a culture of awareness, respect, and accountability to protect our schools and keep our children safe.

Winter Weather Dressing

With the start of wintery and wet weather, please send your student(s) to school dressed warmly (winter coats, hats, gloves and boots ) and with a change of clothes in their backpack. This will help keep them dry and comfortable throughout the school day in case they get wet while outdoors.

Reporting Absences Thru ParentVUE

Why Use ParentVUE for Absences

If a student is not attending school for the day or series of days, the parent has the ability to document this absence in ParentVUE instead of making a call and leaving a voicemail for the attendance clerk.

How to Enter an Absence

  • Log in to ParentVUE
  • Click on "Report Absences" (listed on the left side panel)
  • Mark either 'E for Excused" or "EI for Excused Illness'. You can submit the attendance for a signledate or a range of dates by clicking on each day. (Future absences are not visible in PVUE until the date of the absence.)
  • Please leave a comment in the notes section, explaining the absence.
  • Click Save

Please let the Attendance Office know about ALL absences even if you have alerted the Classroom Teacher.

.

.

Classroom Treats

If it is necessary to have food in classrooms during school hours (i.e. birthday snack, holidays, special occasions, school events, etc.),

  • only commercially prepared and packaged, INDIVIDUAL items (NO CAKES or HUGE COOKIES ) with ATTACHED ingredient labels from retail stores can be served
  • contact your child's teacher prior to sending food or treats in
