- There’s some spooky cold weather out there, but never fear…our annual Halloween Fest has been moved to Wednesday when things will warm up nicely. We’ll have over 50 booths, expanded hours and loads of fun for all ages. Join us at this traditional crowd-pleaser at TAMIU.
- Also on Wednesday, check out the tunes at our Jazz Band Concert at 7:30 p.m. in CFPA Theater. It’s free and open to all.
- It’s also Wellness Week at TAMIU with a broad range of activities to help you boost your health profile. See full poster of the event below.
- It includes Wednesday’s “Know Your Numbers” Health Fair is offered in collaboration with the Dr. F.M. Canseco School of Nursing and Gateway Community Health Center Free COVID-19 vaccines will be given out to students who qualify, and flu shots are also FREE for all registered students. Participation in this event will qualify the student for the Health and Wellness Explore Dimension for the TAMIU Trailblazer Program. It’s underway Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Rotunda.
- On Thursday and Friday you can help keep blood supplies healthy in our community and region by participating in our Blood Donation Drive, hosted by the Office of Student Health Services and the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. Donation site is in the Student Center parking lot and students can earn 20 community service hours.
- Also on Thursday, find out about the dangers of Fentanyl at “Unveiling the Fentanyl Crisis: Collaborative Approaches from DEA, LMC Trauma and SCAN” in the Student Center Ballroom from 12 – 3 p.m. Narcan training and distribution, and lunch will be provided to students who register. - Next week, we’re all looking forward to welcoming iconic writer Sandra Cisneros to campus for her reading and Q&A Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. in the CFPA’s Recital Hall. The famed author of the classic coming-of-age novel, The House on Mango Street, will share insights from her new poetry collection, Woman Without Shame. It’s free and open to all. Here’s more.
- Not Alone: Working Together in the Fight Against Human Trafficking, an original exhibition produced by the Bullock Texas State History Museum, continues at the TAMIU Academic Innovation Center (main entrance lobby through Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023. It’s hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences, department of Psychology and Communication.
- Coming up Saturday, TAMIU hosts the 2023 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Join Team TAMIU and help be part of the research solution for this dread disease which is so prevalent in our community.

Halloween Fest, Trick-or-Treating Fun for All, Returns to TAMIU with 50+ Booths
TAMIU's Campus Activities Board, in partnership with the TAMIU Office of Student Orientation, Leadership, and Engagement, will present its ever-popular Halloween Fest Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 6 - 9:30 p.m. on the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green. Halloween Fest is a family-friendly event that features food, games, music, a costume contests, and much more. Entrance is free and open to the public.
Wellness Week Celebrates Healthy Dustdevils

Celebrated Novelist Sandra Cisneros to Lecture at TAMIU Tuesday, Nov. 7
One of the most iconic writers of modern literature, Sandra Cisneros, will visit TAMIU on Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m., sharing a reading, Q&A, and book signing in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. Presented by the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Humanities, this event is free of charge and open to all.
Veterans Day Ruck March Planned
In commemoration of Veterans Day, TAMIU ARMY ROTC will hold a Ruck March/Walk on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The event begins at the Student Center.
TAMIU Athletics Update
TAMIU is a member of the Lone Star Conference and competes in 11 sports: volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's golf.
