Connecticut College Invitational

On Saturday, October 15th, the Mammoths competed at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Memorial State Park. Racing with not the top Mammoth squads, the Men placed 11th in the Championship Race and the Women placed 13th in the Championship race! Additionally, in the Men's White Race, the Men's team placed 5th!

With meet rules only allowing for each team's top-8 runners to run in the Blue "Championship" Races to take place later in the meet, a group of men toed the line for the Men's White race.

The Mammoths got off the line well in the race and fought for position as the race got out at a fast pace.

Braedon Fiume (29)

Through the first half of the race, it was clear the Mammoths were running well, as they looked strong! The Mammoths were patient and began to move up through the race field. From the first mile mark to the third mile mark, Braedon moved up by 25 places! Luke Munch also made a big push in that period of the race, moving up by 32 places!

Braedon Fiume carried that momentum with them throughout the race, crossing the finish line in 24th place! Brice Shearburn used a big kick in the final 100 meters of the race to place 35th! Luke Munch also carried his momentum from earlier in the race into a 42nd place finish! Right behind him was Daniel Martin in 46th place, quickly followed by Ben Davis in 49th place, just sneaking under the 27-minute barrier! Emmett McGrath was next across the finish line in 54th place, followed by Paolo Canigiula in 59th place! Ben Callon placed 107th in his first race of the season!

Together, the Mammoths placed fifth as a team!

The Women's White Race

Next on the line was the Women's White Race, where four Mammoths toed the line.

The women got off the line well in the race and every Mammoth moved up in place from the first mile mark to the second mile mark! Julia Gentin moved up by 23 places in that period of the race!

Zoë Marcus also moved up well from the first to second mile, moving into third place! Behind her, Margo Pedersen moved up by 10 places and Thea Crowley moved up by 3 places.

From the second to third mile, the Mammoths continued to move up in the race, as Margo moved up by seven places and Julia moved up by 8 places!

As the finish line approached, the Mammoths looked strong! Zoë used a huge kick to her benefit, passing a competing running in the final stretch of the race to place 4th! Margo Pedersen moved up by two places in the final 1200 meters to place 6th! Thea Crowley moved up by 7 places in the final 1200 meters to place 21st! Julia Gentin held her position well, placing 63rd!

The Men's Blue "Championship" race was next, as a strong squad of Mammoths toed the line together in the large field.

Like the earlier races, the Men's Championship race got out at a fast pace. The Mammoths ran intelligently in the first mile of the race, pacing themselves well.

As the race progressed, the Mammoths continued to move up in the race. From the first mile mark to the second mile mark, Ian Dopp and Harrison Talcott moved up by 34 places, benefitting from working together! George Cahill also moved up in the race, by 33 places!

The Mammoths continued to move up in the race by large margins! From the second mile mark to the fourth mile mark, George Cahill moved up by 57 places, Ian Dopp moved up by 28 places, Henry Dennen moved up by 14 places and Harrison Talcott moved up by 11 places!

With one mile to go, the Mammoths continued to push for the finish line, led by George Cahill and Aidan Gemme, who placed 36th and 37th, respectively! George moved up by 14 places in the final mile of the race! Henry Dennen was next across the finish line, moving up by seven places in the final mile to place 53rd! Ian Dopp ran a great race, moving up throughout the entire race to place 81st overall and he moved up by 9 places in the final mile! Harrison Talcott finished in 109th place, holding his position well in the final mile of the race!

Together, the Mammoths placed 11th as a team, moving up from 16th place in the early stages of the race!

The final race of the day was the Women's Championship Race and the women toed the line as it started to rain.

The women ran patiently in the first mile, running with confidence as the large race got out at a fast pace.

The women worked together to pass runners, as Keira Hodum and Sidnie Kulik worked well together, moving up in the field.

Allison Lounsbury moved up rapidly, moving up by 70 places from the first mile mark to the third mile mark! Annika Paylor also moved up by 65 places in that period of the race as well, while Piper Lentz moved up by 39 places!

The Mammoths looked strong as they charged towards the finish line! Allison Lounsbury placed 43rd, moving up by 8 places in the final 1200 meters of the race! Claire Callon was next across the line, placing 48th in her best finish ever at the meet! Next was Annika Paylor in 51st place, an incredible run for the senior! Piper Lentz followed in 91st place, moving up by 11 places in the final 1200 meters of the race! Keira Hodum and Sidnie Kulik followed in 126th and 128th place, respectively, as they both worked together to pass several runners!

Together, the women placed 13th as a team!

The team stopped for ice cream on our way back to Amherst!

NEXT UP is the NESCAC Championships, which we are hosting, on Saturday, October 28th! We will host the meet at UMass Amherst. The Men race at 11 AM and the Women race at 12 PM.
