40 year 12 Visual Arts students were invited to attend a visit to Ravensbourne University by the O2 in London on Wednesday 3rd December 2025. The trip enabled our creative students to experience what it is like to be a student at a Creative Arts university and give them an understanding of the vast array of specialist courses that they have on offer, ranging from Graphic Design, to Filmmaking and Gaming, to name a few examples.
In the morning the students were taken on a guided tour of the university and all its wonderful facilities. The students got to see a full range of courses and listen to presentations from course leaders and a chance to speak to degree students working on live projects.
In the afternoon the students split into two groups, one working on a Filming workshop and the other group looking at film editing and using Adobe Prem Pro.
Those working on the film workshop experienced using industry level studio based cameras giving them an understanding of what it is like to work on a film or TV set and the level of skill required to operate such amazing technology.
Students involved in the film editing workshop got to watch film clips and discuss different approaches to film editing and how editors work on cutting together assets to create sequences that create narratives and story lines. The students were introduced to Adobe Prem Pro and the basics of this industry standard programme and then they were set to working in pairs or small groups to develop their own sequences using prepared assets, both film and sound. All students were quick to grasp this digital way or working and produced some interesting pieces of film in no time at all!!
This was a fantastic day for all our creative students and has given them all a real taste of what it is like to work in a university setting and pick up some new skills and techniques. A huge thank you to Helena and her team and to all the staff at Ravensbourne who gave up their time to share their extensive skills and knowledge.
