Dydd Gwener Mawrth y 21ain Mae’r Cyngor Ysgol wedi penderfynu gall y disgyblion gwisgo dillad coch ar ddydd Gwener Mawrth 21ain a gofynnwn yn garedig am gyfraniad o £1 tuag at yr elusen. Danfonwch eich cyfraniad o £1 mewn amlen wedi labelu gydag enw eich plentyn ar Ddydd Gwener Mawrth y 21ain.
On Friday the 21st of The School Council has decided that the pupils can wear red clothes for red nose day. and we kindly ask for a donation of £1 towards the charity. Please send your £1 donation in an envelope labelled with your child's name on Friday March 21st.

Presenoldeb / Attendance
Y targed cenedlaethol ar gyfer presenoldeb ydy 95% neu’n well. Os ydy presenoldeb eich plentyn o dan 90% rydych wedi derbyn llythyr i wella presenoldeb. Bydd y llythyron nesaf allan cyn gwyliau’r Nadolig! Mae colli 4 diwrnod ers dechrau’r flwyddyn yn golygu bod presenoldeb eich plentyn yn is na 90%. Rydym wedi derbyn sawl galwad ffôn i gwyno bod llythyr wedi’i danfon gan nodi rhesymau megis:

- Bu fy mhlentyn yn sâl.
- Roedd gan fy mhlentyn apwyntiadau meddygol.
Ni ellir rhoi marc presenoldeb ar gyfer plentyn sydd ddim yn yr ysgol. Mae’n bwysig eich bod yn hysbysu’r ysgol am unrhyw absenoldeb er mwyn i ni wneud penderfyniad i awdurdodi’r absenoldeb neu beidio. Diolch o flaen llaw am eich cydweithrediad.
The national target for attendance is 95% or better. If your child's attendance is under 90% you will have received a letter to improve attendance. The next letters will be out before the Christmas holidays! Missing 4 days since the start of the year means your child's attendance is below 90%. We have received several phone calls since the letters went out complaining that a letter has been received because:
- I was on holidays for the first 5 days and got permission.
- My child was ill.
- My child had medical appointments
An attendance mark cannot be issued for a child who is not physically in school. It is important that you inform the school of any absence so that we can make a decision to authorise the absence or not. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Meithrin Cymru ac Iwerddon
Am ddechreuad gwych i’r flwyddyn! Rydym wedi croesawi blant prynhawn newydd i ein dosbarthiadau sydd wedi ymgartrefi’r arbennig o dda. Ar ddechrau’r hanner tymor gwnaethom ddysgu am adar yr ardd a buom yn brysur iawn yn creu ysbienddrychau a bwytawyr adar allan o ddeunyddiau ail gylchu. Gwelsom lawer o adar o amgylch yr ardal goedwig gan gynnwys aderyn du, aderyn y to a robin goch. Buom yn greadigol iawn wrth beintio gwahanol adar ac adeiladu tai iddyn nhw yn ein hardal adeiladu. Dysgom lawer o rigymau newydd yn ystod yr hanner tymor yma gan gynnwys ‘Pum hwyaden’ ac ‘Aderyn melyn’. Cawsom ddiwrnod gwych yn dathlu Diwrnod Miwsig Cymru wrth ddawnsio a chanu yn y neuadd. Yn ddiweddar, rydym wedi bod yn dysgu am fywyd ac anifeiliaid y Fferm ac wedi mwynhau gwrando ar stori ‘Y tri mochyn bach’. Defnyddiom bypedau a phropiau i ail ddweud y stori. Cawsom lawer o hwyl yn glanhau anifeliaid mwdlyd Mrs Wishi Washi yn yr ardal ddwr a chyfrif a chyfatebu’r nifer cywir o anifeiliaid I byllau mwd.
What a great start to the year! We’ve welcomed new afternoon pupils to the nursery who have settled in fantastically. At the beginning of term, we learnt about garden birds and created binoculars and bird feeders out of recycled materials. We saw lots of garden birds out in the forested area such as blackbirds, robins and sparrows. We’ve been very creative painting birds for our class display and building houses for them in our construction area. We’ve learnt lots of new nursery rhymes during this half term including 'Five little ducks' and 'Aderyn melyn'. We had a fantastic day celebrating Welsh Music day, we danced and sang our favorite Welsh songs in the hall. Recently, we’ve been learning about Farm life and animals and have enjoyed listening to the story of 'The three little pigs'. We’ve enjoyed using puppets and props to retell the story in our own words. We had lots of fun cleaning up Mrs Wishi Washi's muddy animals in the water area and counting and matching the correct number of animals to muddy puddles.
Derbyn Sbaen a'r Eidal
Wythnosau brysur iawn i ni yn y dosbarthiadau Derbyn ers Nadolig. Yr hanner tymor hwn, mae ein dysgwyr wedi serenni wrth ddatblygu eu sgiliau iaith a llythrennedd. Braint yw clywed nifer iawn o ddysgwyr yn sgwrsio gyda staff yn y Gymraeg a hefyd yn ymroi iaith newydd ei ddysgu i’w gweithgareddau a phrofiadau chwarae. Rydym yn hynod o falch hefyd o ddatblygiad ffoneg y dysgwyr wrth iddyn nhw barhau ar ei daith ddarllen. Dechreuom y flwyddyn gyda stori clasig sef Elen Benfelen a’r Tair Arth. Arweiniodd y stori hon at ddysgu am feintiau a mesuriadau syml wrth i ni ddysgu sut i greu uwd a dosbarthu eitemau gan ddilyn maen prawf syml megis bach, canolig a mawr. Cymerom ran mewn Gŵyl Adar yr RSPB ble dysgom enwau adar cyffredin a bwydo’r adar sydd yn ymweld â ni ar dir yr ysgol. Wrth archwilio’r awyr, cafodd chwilfrydedd y dysgwyr eu sbarduno. Beth sydd tu hwnt i’r awyr a’r sêr? O ganlyniad i hyn, dysgom am y gofod a’r planedau. Mae’r thema yma wedi bod yn boblogaidd ac yn atyniadol iawn i’n dysgwyr. Gobeithiwn gewch chi doriad hyfryd ac rydym yn edrych ymlaen at groesawi’r dysgwyr nol gyda rhagor o syniadau i lywio’n dysgu ac ymchwiliadau.
It has been a busy few weeks for us in the Derbyn classes since Christmas. This half term, our learners have gone from strength to strength with their language and literacy development. It is a pleasure to hear so many of our learners now conversing with staff through Welsh and applying newly learned phrases and vocabulary to their play experiences. We are especially proud of the learner’s phonics development and reading skills over the last few weeks. We began the year with a classic story; Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This story led us to learning about sizes and simple measurements as we explored how to make porridge and distributed items following simple criteria such as small, medium and large. We enjoyed participating in the Big Bird Watch where we learned the names of garden birds and enjoyed feeding the birds that visit us in school. As we explored the sky, our learners were prompted to wonder what was beyond the birds and the sun. As a result of the learner’s curiosity, we have been learning about space and planets which has been such an engaging topic in our classrooms. We hope you have a great break and look forward to welcoming the children back to school with more ideas to lead our learning and investigations.
Blwyddyn 1 Awstria a Ffrainc
Dechreuwyd y tymor gyda helfa gaeaf yn barc Howard. Wedi gwisgo’n dwym, edrychwyd am nodweddion y gaeaf o amgylch y parc. Yn ogystal â helfa, mae’r disgyblion wedi bod yn gweithio’n galed yn ystod gwersi mathemateg. Dysgwyd am ddiwrnodau’r wythnos a misoedd y flwyddyn, gan atgyfnerthu’r hyn dysgwyd trwy weithgareddau a gemau rhyngweithiol. I orffen ein thema bwyd, edrychwyd ar waith Giuseppe Acrimboldo. Creuwyd y disgyblion hunan bortread yn arddull Arcimboldo. Roedd y gwaith yn arbennig gyda phob darn o waith yn unigryw o bersbectif y disgyblion. Yn ogystal ag hyn, coginiwyd crempog iachus fel rhan o’n gweithgareddau lles. Rhoddwyd hyn cyfle i ni ymarfer sgiliau bywyd pwysig fel dysgu sut i dorri bwyd yn ddiogel.
Dros yr wythnosau diwethaf rydym wedi dathlu diwrnod Santes Dwynwen a diwrnod miwsig Cymru. Fe wnaeth y disgyblion creu cardiau Santes Dwynwen gan hefyd archwilio a darganfod ffurf o doddi Maelon o’r ia yn wyddoniaeth. Ein thema newydd fydd chwedl cainc a stori lle byddwn yn ffocysu ar stori Gelert. Rydym wedi bod y rhagfynegi digwyddiadau’r stori gan ystyried sut byddai cymeriadau’r stori yn teimlo. Gorffennwyd y tymor gyda gŵyl hoci yn ganolfan hamdden Llanelli. Er nad oedd nifer o blant wedi dal ffon hoci o’r blaen, roedd yr ymdrech yn wych. Gobeithiwn eich bod yn mwynhau gwyliau hanner tymor. Byddwch yn ddiogel a welwn ni chi pan fyd y disgyblion yn dychwelyd.
As the winter chill set in and Christmas ebbed away, year 1 have had a very busy half term exploring, learning, and celebrating a variety of exciting activities! We kicked off our winter adventures with an exciting Winter Treasure Hunt. Bundled up in warm layers, we went for a walk to park Howard, searching for the key features of Winter. A good time was had by all, despite the cold weather! In between all the fun, we worked tirelessly during our mathematics lessons. Students practiced the days of the week and months of the year, reinforcing their understanding through interactive games and activities. By the end of that week, everyone had mastered the full calendar, making it easier to stay organized and understand the concept of seasons.
To finish our theme where we looked at food, we studied the work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, renowned Italian artist famous for his whimsical portraits made of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Inspired by his imaginative designs, students got busy creating their own Arcimboldo-style self-portraits, The results were wonderful, with each piece reflecting a unique and playful perspective of themselves. We didn’t stop at art! In the kitchen, we created some healthy pancakes as part of our wellness activities. Using wholesome ingredients like oats, bananas, and fresh fruit, everyone learned how to create a nutritious yet tasty treat. It was a delicious way to discuss how to create a balanced diet while also gaining some first-hand experience of important life skills such as cutting food safely.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve celebrated important Welsh events such as Welsh Music Day and Santes Dwynwen the patron saint of lovers over the last few weeks. Our new theme is Welsh myths, legends and stories where we’ve been focusing on the story of Gelert the faithful hound. We’ve predicted what would happen next, using freeze frames throughout the story to discuss the feelings of each character. Finally, we wrapped up the month with a hockey workshop in Llanelli leisure centre. For many it was their first time picking up a hockey stick yet the effort was brilliant, and everyone enjoyed the morning’s activities. We hope you all have a wonderful and fun filled half term. Blwyddyn 2 Portiwgal a Sweden
Mae wedi bod yn hanner tymor llawn hwyl a chyffro i’n dysgwyr blwyddyn 2!
Y tymor yma rydym yn dathlu diwylliant Cymreig, ac wedi seilio ein gwaith ar y stori Blodeuwedd. Wrth i ni archwilio’r stori, manteisiom ar sawl gyfle i ddatblygu ein sgiliau llythrennedd a rhifedd. Mae dosbarthiadau Blwyddyn 2 wedi defnyddio dull Pie Corbett i greu symudiadau addas ar gyfer yr eirfa allweddol yn y stori. Mae’r dull yma wedi ein helpu i gofio’r stori ar lafar, wrth baratoi ar gyfer ei hysgrifennu yn ystod yr hanner tymor nesaf. Rydym hefyd wedi dysgu amrywiaeth o strwythurau brawddegau newydd ac ansoddeiriau, sydd wedi ein galluogi i ysgrifennu darn o waith disgrifiadol, yn seiliedig ar Blodeuwedd. Fe wnaethon ni fwynhau datblygu ein sgiliau creadigol yn fawr, trwy ddilyn fideo cam-wrth-gam i greu coron o flodau, yn union fel un Blodeuwedd, gan ddefnyddio papur tisw. Yn y stori, mae Blodeuwedd yn cael ei throi’n dylluan, a’i gŵr Lleu, yn eryr. Arweiniodd hyn at ein taith i’r Ardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru, a’n hymweliad â’r Ganolfan Adar Ysglyfaethus Prydain, lle cwrddon ni ag Orchid y dylluan a Midas yr eryr, a dysgu am eu gwahaniaethau.
Yr hanner tymor yma rydym wedi bod yn dysgu am siapiau 2D, a thablau 2, 5 a 10. Rydym wedi cymryd rhan mewn nifer o weithgareddau ymarferol i ymestyn ein dysgu a'n dealltwriaeth o'r pynciau hyn. Rydym wedi mynd â stori Blodeuwedd allan i’r awyr agored, lle rydym wedi mwynhau gwneud bwydwyr adar gyda Miss Evans yn ystod ein sesiynau Ysgol Goed. Yn ogystal, aethom ar helfa ‘Adar Ysglyfaethus’ yn y goedwig, a defnyddiom y meddalwedd JIT i gofnodi ein data ar ffurf graff bar.
It has been a fun and exciting half term for our year 2 learners!
This term we are celebrating Welsh culture, and have based our work on the folklore story, Blodeuwedd. As we explored the story, we took advantage of several opportunities to develop our literacy and numeracy skills. Our year 2 classes have used Pie Corbett’s method to create relevant hand gesture for the key vocabulary in the story. This method has helped us to remember the story orally, in preparation for writing it during the next half term. We have also learnt a variety of new sentence structures and adjectives, which have enabled us to write a descriptive piece of work based on Blodeuwedd. We thoroughly enjoyed developing our creative skills by following a step-by-step video to create a crown of flowers, just like Blodeuwedd’s, using tissue paper. In the story, Blodeuwedd is turned into an owl, and her husband Lleu, into an eagle. This led to our trip to The National Botanic Garden of Wales, and our visit The British Birds of Prey Centre, where we met Orchid the owl and Midas the eagle, and learnt about their differences.
This half term we have been learning all about 2D shapes, and times tables 2, 5 and 10. We have taken part in several practical activities to extend our learning and understanding of these topics. We have taken Blodeuwedd’s story into the outdoors, where we have enjoyed making bird feeders with Miss Evans during our Forest School sessions. In addition, we have completed a ‘Birds of Prey’ hunt in the forest and used the software JIT to record our data in the form of a bar graph.
Blwyddyn 3 Alban a Hwngari
Am dymor prysur mae hi wedi bod ym Mlwyddyn 3! Rydym wedi cael hwyl yn dysgu am ein chwedl dosbarth- Gwenllian. Rydym wedi teithio yn ôl mewn amser i ddysgu am gestyll a sut oedd bywyd ganrifoedd yn ôl. Mae'r plant wedi darganfod rôl bwysig cestyll. Un o uchafbwyntiau ein tymor oedd ein taith i Gastell Cydweli. Cafodd y plant gyfle i grwydro’r Castell ac maent wedi cael cyfle i greu eu Castell eu hunain yn ôl yn y dosbarth. Roedd y plant wrth eu bodd yn dychmygu sut brofiad fyddai byw mewn castell flynyddoedd yn ôl. Mae’r plant wedi dysgu am Gwenllian, ei dewrder a’r rhan bwysig a chwaraeodd yn hanes Cymru. Rydyn ni wedi bod yn brysur yn ysgrifennu am fywyd Gwenllian ac wrth ein bodd yn creu tarian ac arfbais fel byddai Gwenllian wedi defnyddio yn y frwydr. Yn fathemateg, rydyn ni wedi bod yn dysgu sut i ddarllen a dweud yr amser. Mae'r plant wedi gweithio'n galed i ddeall clociau digidol ac analog. Gweithgaredd Mathemateg hwylus arall oedd dysgu sut i dynnu trwy chwarae dartiau. Defnyddiodd y plant bwrdd dartiau i ymarfer tynnu, gan greu ffyrdd hwylus o ddatrys problem wrth chwarae gêm. Yn ystod ein gwersi Addysg Gorfforol rydym wedi mwynhau dysgu dawnsio gwerin i gerddoriaeth draddodiadol Gymreig. Rydym hefyd wedi canolbwyntio ar bwysigrwydd iechyd a lles ac wedi gwneud gweithgareddau hwyliog i helpu ni ymlacio a helpu gyda straen.
What a busy term it has been in Year 3! We've had so much fun learning and exploring our new topic- the ledgend of Gwenllian. We've journeyed back in time to learn about castles and what life was like centuries ago. The children have discovered the important role castles played in history. One of the highlights of our term was our trip to Kidwelly Castle. The children had the opportunity to explore the Castle and have had the chance to create their own Castle back in class. The children loved imagining what it would have been like to live in a castle years ago. The children have learned about Gwenllian, her bravery and the important role she played in Welsh history. We have been busy writting a biography about Gwenllians life and loved creating thei rown shields like Gwenllian would have had in the battle. In Maths, we’ve been mastering how to read and tell the time. The children have worked hard to understand both digital and analogue clocks. Another fun Maths activity was when we learned how to subtract by playing darts! The children used the dartboard to practice subtraction, creating their own fun ways to solve problems while playing a game. During our PE lessons we have enjoyed learning folk dancing to traditional Welsh folk music. We have also focused on the importance of health and well-being and did some fun activities to help relax and de-stress.
Blwyddyn 4 Almaen a Swistir
Ers dechrau’r flwyddyn newydd rydym wedi bod yn canolbwyntio ar ein thema newydd sef - Twm Siôn Cati. Rydym wedi gwneud gweithgareddau di-ri yn canolbwyntio ar ei storiâu ac anturiaethau o amgylch Cymru. Mae’r disgyblion wedi mwynhau dysgu ffeithiau diddorol am y ‘Robin Hood Cymraeg’. Aeth y disgyblion ati i weithio mewn grwpiau yn penderfynu pa fath o weithgareddau hoffent gyflawni o waith celf gan gynnwys; clai, paent ac adnoddau naturiol i animeiddiad ar Adobe Animate i waith map OS. Maent wedi datblygu sgiliau hynod o bwysig o weithio fel tîm i gyrraedd y nod. Yn ystod yr wythnosau cynnar, cynhaliwyd gwasanaethau'r ddau Ddosbarth blwyddyn 4 o flaen ein rhieni. Canolbwyntiodd Bl4 Almaen ar draddodiadau Cymru er enghraifft Y Fari Lwyd ac addunedau'r flwyddyn newydd. Tra canolbwyntiodd Bl4 Swistir ar y flwyddyn newydd Tsieineaidd ble edrychwyd ar draddodiadau'r dathliad. Hyfryd oedd gweld gymaint o gefnogaeth rheini yn ystod y gwasanaethau yma a’r cymeradwyaeth â chafwyd am waith caled y disgyblion.
Rydym wedi bod yn lwcus i gymryd rhan mewn sesiynau Jiu-Jitsu yn ystod yr hanner tymor yma. Cafwyd sesiynau Jiu-Jitsu ei gynnal a chafodd y disgyblion cyfle i ddysgu sgiliau newydd a chymryd rhan mewn gweithgaredd newydd iddynt. Yn ystod yr hanner tymor rydym hefyd wedi dathlu ‘Dydd Miwsig Cymru’ ble gwnaethant ddathlu cantorion a bandiau enwog Cymru. Cafodd y disgyblion cyfle i wylio ‘Y Llais’, gwrando ar gerddoriaeth Gymreig a dysgu am ganeuon enwog Cymreig.
Since the New Year we have been focusing on our new theme which is – Twm Siôn Cati. We have done various activities focusing on his stories and adventures across Wales. The pupils have enjoyed learning new and interesting facts about the ‘Welsh Robin Hood’. The pupils worked in groups to decide on what kind of activities they’d like to complete, from art activities including; clay, paint, natural items to animations on Adobe Animate to work including OS Maps. They have developed a wide range of integral skills such as working as a team to reach their goal. During the first few weeks, assemblies were held by both year 4 classes in front of their parents. Year 4 Almaen concentrated on Welsh New Year traditions such as The Mari Lwyd (The Grey Mary) and New Years resolutions. While year 4 Swistir concentrated on the Chinese New Year where they looked at their traditions and celebrations. It was wonderful to see how much support the children received from the parents and the applause received for their hard work.
We have been lucky enough to take part in Jiu-Jitsu sessions during the half term. Sessions were delivered where the pupils had the opportunity to learn and develop new skills while taking part in a new and different activity.We also celebrated ‘Welsh Music Day’ where we celebrated Welsh music, singers and bands. The pupils had the opportunity to watch ‘Y Llais’ (Welsh version of The Voice) and got to know about and listen to Welsh Music, singers and bands.
Blwyddyn 5 Belg a'r Ffindir
Rydyn ni wedi cael wythnosau llawn cyffro yn llawn profiadau dysgu cyffrous, digwyddiadau arbennig, ac anturiaethau newydd! Mwynhaodd ein disgyblion Blwyddyn 5 arhosiad bythgofiadwy o ddwy noson yng Nghanolfan Antur Abernant. O weithgareddau awyr agored gwefreiddiol i heriau adeiladu tîm, dangosodd y plant ddewrder, gwytnwch a gwaith tîm drwy gydol yr amser. Ymhlith yr uchafbwyntiau roedd taclo'r cwrs ymosod, ffensio, a'r wal ddringo ac abseilio. Hyfryd oedd gweld pawb yn gwthio eu hunain allan o’u parthau cysurus ac yn cefnogi ei gilydd. Yn ystod Wythnos Iechyd Meddwl Plant, fe wnaethom ganolbwyntio ar bwysigrwydd gofalu am ein lles meddwl. Cymerodd y disgyblion ran mewn gweithgareddau a oedd yn anelu at hybu hunanfynegiant, ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar ac empathi. Buom yn trafod ffyrdd o reoli emosiynau a meithrin perthnasoedd cadarnhaol, gan greu amgylchedd diogel a chefnogol i bawb. Roedd Diwrnod Defnyddio’r Rhyngrwyd yn Fwy Diogel yn gyfle i Flwyddyn 5 ddyfnhau eu dealltwriaeth o ddiogelwch ar-lein. Trwy weithdai a thrafodaethau rhyngweithiol, archwiliodd disgyblion sut i lywio’r rhyngrwyd yn gyfrifol, nodi ffynonellau dibynadwy, a chadw eu gwybodaeth bersonol yn ddiogel. Mae Blwyddyn 5 wedi cael y cyfle gwych i gymryd rhan mewn gwersi Addysg Gorfforol yng Ngholeg Sir Gâr, gan wneud y mwyaf o’u cyfleusterau rhagorol. O gemau gwaith tîm i ddriliau meithrin sgiliau, mae'r sesiynau yn gwella cydsymud, ffitrwydd a chyfathrebu. Yn ein gwersi mathemateg, rydym wedi canolbwyntio ar siapiau, unedau mesur safonol, a chyfesurynnau. Mae disgyblion wedi gweithio'n galed i adnabod a dosbarthu siapiau 2D a 3D, datrys problemau byd go iawn yn ymwneud â mesuriadau, a llywio gridiau gan ddefnyddio cyfesurynnau. Mae wedi bod yn wych gweld y plant yn cymhwyso eu sgiliau mathemateg yn greadigol ac yn hyderus!
Rydym yn hynod falch o waith caled a brwdfrydedd ein disgyblion. Diolch i rieni a gofalwyr am eich cefnogaeth barhaus i wneud y profiadau hyn yn bosibl!
We’ve had an action-packed few weeks filled with exciting learning experiences, special events, and new adventures! Our Year 5 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable two-night stay at Abernant Adventure Centre. From thrilling outdoor activities to team-building challenges, the children demonstrated courage, resilience, and teamwork throughout. Highlights included tackling the assault course, fencing, and the climbing and abseiling wall. It was wonderful to see everyone pushing themselves out of their comfort zones and supporting one another. During Children’s Mental Health Week, we focused on the importance of looking after our mental well-being. Pupils took part in activities aimed at promoting self-expression, mindfulness, and empathy. We discussed ways to manage emotions and build positive relationships, creating a safe and supportive environment for all. Safer Internet Day was an opportunity for Year 5 to deepen their understanding of online safety. Through interactive workshops and discussions, pupils explored how to navigate the internet responsibly, identify trustworthy sources, and keep their personal information secure. Year 5 have had the fantastic opportunity to participate in PE lessons at Coleg Sir Gar, making the most of their excellent facilities. From teamwork games to skill-building drills, the sessions helped improve coordination, fitness, and communication. In maths, our focus has been on shapes, standard units of measure, and coordinates. Pupils have worked hard to identify and classify 2D and 3D shapes, solve real-world problems involving measurements, and navigate grids using coordinates. It's been wonderful to see the children applying their maths skills creatively and confidently!

Blwyddyn 6 Pwyl a Groeg
Croesawyd B6 yn ôl i thema newydd ym mis Ionawr sef chwedl ‘Cantre’r Gwaelod’. Fe wnaethom benderfynu yr hoffem ddysgu am Lifogydd, yn enwedig effeithiau newid yn yr hinsawdd ar ein bywydau a beth allwn ni ei wneud i newid hyn. Rydym wedi edrych ar a chynhyrchu ystod o raffiau, gan ddatblygu ein sgiliau trin data i sefyllfaoedd bywyd go iawn. Rydym hefyd wedi dysgu am y rhaglen ‘Sparc ynni’ sy’n casglu data byw 24/7 o’r ysgol ar gyfer defnydd Nwy a Thrydan. Gwnaethom ddarllen a dehongli'r data a llunio cwestiynau cysylltiedig yn edrych ar batrymau a thueddiadau, a oedd yn peri mwy o ddiddordeb yn y newid yn yr hinsawdd.
Rydym yn ffodus i fod yn rhan o raglen ymchwil gyda ‘Ein Hinsawdd Dosbarth’ a Phentre’ Awel gyda 6 ysgol gynradd arall yn Llanelli sy’n canolbwyntio ar y strategaeth newid hinsawdd a chynaliadwyedd. Fel rhan o ‘Hinsawdd Ein Hystafell Ddosbarth’ fe wnaethom ddefnyddio’r adnoddau addysgol rhyngweithiol digidol am newid hinsawdd, a chwblhau llawer o weithgareddau sy’n mesur newid hinsawdd mewn amser real. Rydym hefyd yn monitro ansawdd yr aer yn yr ystafell ddosbarth gan ddefnyddio monitor ansawdd aer Nukku, sy'n monitro'r lleithder, tymheredd, cyfansoddion organig anweddol (COA), llwch ac ocsid nitraidd (NOx). Fe wnaethom hefyd wneud thermomedr gan ddefnyddio micro-bit a mesur y tymheredd o amgylch tiroedd yr ysgol, gosod y data mewn taenlen Excel a dadansoddi’r data a gasglwyd.
Cawsom hwyl hefyd gydag arbrofion gwyddoniaeth. Yn gyntaf, dysgon ni am y carbon a gynhyrchwyd wrth ychwanegu mentoes at Cola a anfonodd y botel o gola yn esgyn drwy'r awyr ar y balconi! Hefyd, trwy ddefnyddio gwahanol fathau o finegr gyda soda pobi i fesur y Carbon deuocsid a gesglir o'r adwaith cemegol mewn balwnau. Fe fesuron ni gylchedd pob balŵn i weld pa un oedd yn cynhyrchu mwy o garbon, mwy o finegr neu fwy o soda pobi! Rydym wedi dysgu am arwynebedd a chyfaint, gan ddefnyddio mesurau metrig amrywiol a hyd yn oed wedi mesur ystod o gynwysyddion i gyfrifo faint o algâu spirulina sydd ei angen i ffitio pob un.
Y profiad gorau oll oedd ein taith breswyl i Ganolfan yr Urdd yn Llangrannog. Roeddem yn gallu sgïo, tobogan, rasio mewn go-cart ac ar feiciau cwad, dringo ar y rhaffau isel ac uchel, abseilio, heicio i lawr i'r traeth, mwynhau trampolinio a marchogaeth. Roedd yn brofiad bendigedig ond blinedig, yn creu atgofion gyda’n ffrindiau a’r staff, ond y bwyd oedd yr uchafbwynt i lawer!
We welcomed back Y6 to a new theme in January the legend of ‘Cantre’r Gwaelod’. We decided that we would like to learn about Flooding, especially the effects of Climate change on our lives and what we can do to change this. We have looked at and produced a range of graphs, developing our data handling skills to real life situations. We have also learnt about the ‘EnergySparks programme’ which collects live data 24/7 from the school for Gas and Electricity use. We read and interpreted the data and came up with related questions looking at patterns and trends, which posed further interest in Climate change.
We are fortunate to be part of a research programme with ‘Our Classroom Climate and Pentre Awel with 6 other primary schools in Llanelli which focuses on the climate change and sustainability strategy. As part of ‘Our Classroom Climate’ we used the digital interactive educational resources about climate change, and completed many activities that measure climate change in real time. We also made a thermometer using a micro-bit and measured the temperature around the school grounds, inserted the data in an excel spreadsheet and analysed the data collected.
We also had fun with science experiments. Firstly, we learned about the carbon produced when we added mentos sweets to Cola which sent the bottle of cola soaring through the air on the balcony! Also, by using different types of vinegar with bicarbonate of soda to measure the Carbon dioxide collected from the chemical reaction in balloons. We measured the circumference of each balloon to see which produced more carbon, more vinegar or more bicarb!
In Mathematics we have learned about area and volume , using various metric measures and even measured a range of containers to calculate the amount of spirulina algae needed to fit each one.
The best experience of all was our residential trip to the Urdd Centre in Llangrannog . We were able to ski, toboggan, race in go karts and on quad bikes, climb on the low and high ropes, absail, hike down to the beach, enjoy trampolining and horse riding. It was a wonderful yet tiring experience, making memories with our friends and the staff, but the food was the highlight for many!
