2024 MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW

The 2024 Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championship will be hosted at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on April 27-28.

Day one of the championships will feature 36 holes of competition using a traditional-style start. The order of play on day two will be determined by placement on the leaderboard after the first round.

Admission to the Landmark Men's Golf Championship is free. Spectators must remain at least 15 yards from participants and stay on cart paths and in roughs. No communication shall be permitted between spectators and participants while a round is underway. Golf carts will not be available for spectators.

About Shawnee Golf

Located on the grounds of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort, the Shawnee Island Course is the crown jewel of the property. It was completed in 1910, a year before the Inn was built, and is A.W. Tillinghast’s first-ever design.

The course has tee-to-green irrigation, ensuring the best Pocono golf conditions possible.

2023 Recap

Despite facing unfavorable conditions, the University of Scranton persevered, clinching the program's inaugural conference title with a narrow two-stroke lead over Drew University, prevailing 613-615.

After shooting a 77, Scranton's Danny Harding claimed medalist honors after his birdie on hole 18. He finished the tournament with a score of 147, which included shooting an even 70 during the second round.

Fall Preview Recap

In October, the Landmark Conference men's golf teams converged for the highly anticipated fall preview, an event that offers players an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the championship course ahead of the spring championships slated for the end of April.

Drew University emerged as the dominant force with an impressive team total of 587 strokes (composed of rounds of 291 and 296), securing the team title. Their exceptional performance eclipsed that of second-place Goucher College by an impressive margin of 24 strokes (resulting from rounds of 301 and 310, totaling 611).

Individually, Elliot Parker of Drew claimed medalist honors. Parker's sublime consistency, carding an impressive 140 over the two-day event with identical rounds of 70 on both days.

Catholic University

With the echoes of their inaugural league triumph in 2021 still reverberating, the Catholic University men's golf program sets its sights on clinching the Landmark Conference trophy for the second time in four years.

Bolstered by a roster brimming with championship experience, the Cardinals boast a lineup steeped in experience. Colin Coogan and Darren Horton, distinguished as Second Team All-Conference performers in the previous year, stand as pillars of consistency. They are complemented by the seasoned prowess of Jack Walsh, who earned First Team accolades in 2022.

In the recent Fall Preview, the team found itself in a hard-fought tie for third place alongside Moravian University. Leading the charge for the Cardinals was Colin Coogan, whose commanding performance yielded a two-day score of 149 strokes (consisting of rounds of 73 and 76), positioning him in a tie for fifth place.

Drew University

In his third year at the helm, Coach John Manos leads the 2024 Rangers in their quest for redemption following a heart-wrenching loss in last year's conference championship, falling short by a mere two strokes to The University of Scranton.

Headlining the seasoned Drew roster is the reigning conference Rookie of the Year, Elliot Parker. Parker, who secured a third-place finish in last year's championships, clinched the medalist honors at the conference Fall Preview this past October. Parker is surrounded by a deep and talented roster that includes nine players who have shot below a 75 this season.

The Rangers enter the season on the heels of a fruitful fall and spring campaign, boasting an impressive record of four top-10 finishes, including a tournament victory, setting the stage for a competitive championship weekend.

Elizabethtown College

Elizabethtown enters championship weekend armed with considerable depth, boasting the return of all five players from last year's sixth-place squad.

Despite a modest showing at the Fall Preview, where they placed seventh out of nine teams with a collective score of 639, the Blue Jays demonstrated promise, led by the stellar performance of Chris Kilduff. Kilduff's two-day score of 153 (76-77) secured him a tie for eighth place, setting a strong precedent for the team.

Leading the charge for the Blue Jays is Kilduff himself, boasting an impressive scoring average of 77.00 across seven rounds.

Goucher College

Goucher College, historically dominant with three league titles under its belt, is determined to reclaim its position at the pinnacle of the conference.

Yue, a graduate student, boasts a decorated history during the postseason for the Gophers. His 2019 First Team honors, earned after a fifth-place finish at the Championship, underscore his prowess on the course. Following a commendable tie for fourth at the 2020 Landmark Preview, Yue returned in 2023 from a two-year hiatus to secure a top-20 finish, tying for 13th place.

With six players boasting a season scoring average below 80, Goucher presents a compelling case for their fourth conference title, poised to make their mark once again on the championship stage.

Juniata College

Heading into the 2024 championship, head coach Robb Ritchey steers a diverse roster consisting of three seniors, one junior, four sophomores, and six freshmen, leveraging his experience from a year at the helm.

Among the returning athletes from the eighth-place team in 2023, three Eagles stand ready to make their mark. Ethan Brown, a sophomore, leads the charge after securing a 31st-place finish, closely followed by senior Kamden Clapper in a tie for 34th and sophomore Larry Singer in 37th, all poised to elevate their performances this year.

Juniata showcased promise at the fall preview in October, clinching a commendable fifth-place finish with a team score of 637 (317-320). Notably, freshmen Harrison Levithan and Kyle Rittersbach emerged as contenders, posting a two-day score of 159 to secure a tie for 17th, setting a promising tone for the championship ahead.

Lycoming College

As Lycoming College's men's golf program embarks on its inaugural journey within the Landmark Conference, they do so under the seasoned guidance of Head Coach Jamie Spencer, who boasts an impressive 17-year tenure at the helm.

The Warriors dipped their toes into conference waters at the fall preview in October, offering a glimpse of their potential. Leading the charge was Will Eberz, whose scoring average this season of 81.25 across eight rounds highlights his consistent performance. Eberz, with two top-five finishes under his belt, posted a solid 160 (79-81) at the preview, earning a respectable tie for 23rd. Alongside him, Mikey Fry showcased his talent, securing a tie for 33rd with a two-day score of 165 (82-83).

Moravian University

Meredith Mutcher embarks on her inaugural full season as Moravian University's men's golf coach, following her elevation to Director of Men's & Women's Golf in July 2023.

Moravian's finished in a tie for third alongside Catholic University at the fall preview. Leading the charge was Jason Koch, delivering a stellar performance with a score of 149 (74-75), securing a tie for fifth. TJ Bohl followed suit with a top-10 finish, concluding the two-day event with a score of 154 (75-79), tying for 10th place. Robbie McNelly further bolstered the team's success, clinching a respectable 16th place with a score of 158 (83-75).

Noteworthy individual performances continue to shine within the Moravian roster. Koch boasts an impressive eight top-10 finishes, maintaining a stellar scoring average of 75.62, while Bohl has amassed four top-10 finishes with an average of 77.91. Five other Greyhounds are averaging under 90, highlighting the team's depth and potential for continued success.

University of Scranton

The University of Scranton men's golf program authored a captivating narrative at the 2023 championship, where the league's title hung in the balance until the final hole on the last day.

Danny Harding had a masterful performance, clinching both the team and individual titles dramatically. Harding sunk a remarkable 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th green, securing not only the team championship but also medalist honors. Hailing from Vestal, NY, Harding delivered the tournament's standout performance, carding an impressive 70 (even-par) in the final round and concluding with an overall score of 147, narrowly edging out Myles Cherry (149) of Drew by a mere two strokes.

Harding joined the ranks of conference individual champions, following in the footsteps of Michael Boland in 2018. Moreover, the team's triumph marked a significant milestone, being Scranton's first team title since 1988 when they clinched the Middle Atlantic Conference championship.

As Scranton gears up for the upcoming season, Harding, alongside Jack Novis, remains a pivotal presence as the only returning members from the 2023 championship-winning team.

Susquehanna University

With a seasoned core leading the charge, Susquehanna University strides confidently into the 2024 championship weekend.

Junior Charlie Betz embodies consistency and talent, having cemented his presence as a linchpin for SU over the years. Recognized with an All-Conference Second Team nod in 2022, Betz narrowly missed a top-20 finish last season, underlining his competitive edge. His impressive showing at the fall preview, where he secured eighth place with a composed performance, highlights his capability, boasting a score of 153 (73-80).

Joining Betz in the River Hawks' quest for success are competitors such as Johnathan Spohn, who tied for 26th, carding a score of 161 (75-86).

Grant Kuffa and Patrick Bova finished in ties for 32nd and 37th respectively, while David Birmingham rounded out the team's performance with a solid showing, securing a tie for 42nd with a score of 173 (87-86).

Wilkes University

Wilkes University makes its debut in the Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championship, marking a significant milestone for the Colonels as they officially joined the conference ranks this past summer.

Despite their newcomer status, Wilkes fields a lineup anchored by the seasoned talents of Cole Jungwirth. Recognized as the Co-Rookie of the Year for the Middle Atlantic Conference in the previous season, Jungwirth brings a wealth of experience and skill to the team. Across 11 rounds this season, he has showcased consistency with a scoring average of 78.5, boasting an impressive tally of eight top-five finishes.

Jungwirth continued his stellar performance at the conference fall preview, where he solidified his presence with a seventh-place finish and a two-day total of 151 (75-76).
