FIGHT RECAP
John Shipman vs Thomas Hawkins
These two heavyweights wasted no time starting off the night, with both fighters trading powerful hooks throughout the 4 round bout. Shipman, although outweighed by 40 pounds, proved to be the better marksman landing several more blows than his oppenent which led him to victory with the Unanimous Decision of 40-36. Shipman's record now sits at 4-2
Edwin Peña vs Waldo Zamudio
Peña began dominating this fight early on. Zamudio showed resistance by blocking and trying his best to keep his opponent at bay, but the strong body blows by Peña proved to be too much. Edwin Peña drops Zamudio once in the second round and twice in the 3rd, taking his first pro win by KO. His record now stands at 1-0-1.
Ray Ximenez vs Eric Manriquez
Ximenez was fast, but his opponent was tough. The two warriors swung their fists until the very end. Manriquez's counter punching and ability to get inside kept this fight close enough to be interesting, but in the end he was no match for Ray's precision and ability to "throw punches in bunches" as they say. Ximenez wins by Unanimous Decision after 6 high energy rounds, making his current record 20-2.
Shurretta "Chiccn" Metcalf vs Danielle Bennett
In what ended up being the longest bout of the night, Metcalf and Bennett faced blood and bruises in their pursuit to claim the NABF Female Super Bantam Title. Dallas favorite, Chiccn, came out swinging, trying to work her way inside against her taller southpaw opponent. Bennett began to control rounds, slightly keeping out range, but Metcalf eventually puts several strong shot to the face of Bennett, causing bleeding from her lip and possibly her nose. The rounds continue and Metcalf's eye begins to swell from the consistent right hand of Bennett. The non-stop excitement finally ends after 8 brutal rounds. In one of the biggest upsets of the night, hometown legend, Metcalf loses by Majority decision to Bennett, the new NABF Femal Super Bantam Champ.
Charles "The Future" Hatley vs Jamshidbek Najmitdinov
Royal Roundz's Main Event, featuring boxing champion Charles Hatley and his New York based opponent from Uzbekistan, was short and shocking. The bell rings and Najmitdinov comes out swinging. Hatley seemed unbothered, deflecting or countering many of his opponents attacks. However, Najmitdinov lands a strong shot and the intensity of the exchange quickly picks up. Hatley increases pace and a cut opens above Najmitdinov's eye. This could have been a major problem in later rounds, but the fight would end at 2 minutes and 18 seconds in the second round. Early in the second, Hatley gains momentum, landing strong counters to both the body and head. Najmitdinov returns with a strong left hand, but it appears that Hatley shoot it off and get right back in the fight. However, another strong well placed left puts Hatley on the canvas. He attempts to make his way to his feet, but struggles to stay steady. Referee Ruben Perez quickly calls the fight, making Najmidinov the USNBC Welterweight Champion.
