CGEMC Newsletter | June 2026

As summer arrives across central Georgia, longer days and rising temperatures mean one thing for your co-op: energy use is about to increase. Central Georgia EMC's (CGEMC) focus stays the same year-round: providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy. Behind the scenes, summer brings added challenges that require planning, preparation, and teamwork. When temperatures rise, air conditioners run longer and harder than any other time of year. This increase in energy use affects the entire electric system. Our teams monitor demand, maintain equipment, and prepare for peak use periods to help keep your power on when you need it most. We also continue to maintain and strengthen our system to support reliable service during high-demand times. Electricity use is highest in the late afternoon and early evening—typically between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.—when temperatures peak and more people are home using appliances. During this time, the electric system is under its greatest demand. Even small changes during these hours can help reduce strain and support reliable service. You can help, too. Simple changes like raising your thermostat a few degrees, using ceiling fans, sealing air leaks, and closing blinds during the hottest part of the day can make a difference. Spacing out large appliance use, grilling outdoors, and changing air filters regularly can also help lower your energy use and monthly bill. As a CGEMC member, you are at the center of everything we do. This summer, we remain focused on delivering safe, reliable power to serve your home and family.

Save Energy, Stay Cool

  • Program your thermostat to 78 degrees when you are home and to a higher setting when you are away.
  • Set ceiling fans to spin counterclockwise in summer to push cool air down.
  • Run appliances in the early morning or late evening to reduce peak demand.
  • Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day.
  • Change air filters regularly to keep your system running efficiently.
  • Keep your HVAC system well-maintained.

Powering a brighter, cleaner future

Powering your home or business is only part of what we do at Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC). As a member-owned cooperative, we are committed to providing energy solutions that reflect our values, including supporting a brighter, cleaner energy future for the communities we serve. One of the ways we do this is through our Cooperative Solar and Green Energy (Biomass) Programs. These renewable energy options allow members to support alternative energy sources without the cost or maintenance of installing equipment at home. Instead of placing solar panels on your rooftop, you can participate in solar energy that is generated in our region. Our Green Energy program uses biomass—a renewable resource created from natural materials like wood waste—to generate electricity. By incorporating these renewable sources into our overall power supply, CGEMC can reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources while maintaining the reliability and affordability our members expect. Participation in Cooperative Solar and Green Energy helps diversify how electricity is produced, reduces environmental impact, and supports long-term sustainability efforts. It also reflects the cooperative principle of Concern for Community by allowing members to play an active role in supporting responsible energy solutions for future generations. Together, through voluntary programs like these, our membership is helping power progress toward a more balanced and sustainable energy future, one that values innovation, stewardship, and community responsibility. Your choices today help power a brighter, cleaner tomorrow. Learn more at www.cgemc.com under Energy Solutions.

CGEMC EARNS AN ACSI® 2026 CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AWARD!

Central Georgia EMC is honored to have earned a 2026 Customer Satisfaction Award* from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI®) based on our member survey results. Members were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with us, how well we lived up to their expectations, and how well we measured up to their ideal co-op experience. While these were not the only questions in the survey, we included these specifically because they are the core components of the proprietary ACSI methodology. CGEMC’s ACSI score substantially outperforms the industry average score earned by publicly measured utilities reported in the 2026 ACSI Energy Utility Study. This award is a testament to CGEMC's ongoing efforts to provide the best possible member experience. The 2026 Customer Satisfaction Award affirms that CGEMC’s hard work has been noticed by its members. CGEMC is grateful for its members and will continue to strive for excellence through constant dedication to improvement. *Award criteria are determined by the ACSI® and are based on customers' rating their satisfaction in a survey independent of the syndicated ACSI Energy Utility Study. For more about the ACSI, visit www.theacsi.org/badges. ACSI and its logo are registered trademarks of the American Customer Satisfaction Index LLC.

Bright futures ahead!

Central Georgia EMC is proud to recognize three outstanding students as recipients of the 2026 CGEMC Powering the Future Scholarship. Each student has been awarded a $500 scholarship and will advance to compete in the statewide selection for Georgia EMC’s Walter Harrison Scholarship. Paul T. Risper of Macon, a graduate of Westside High School, plans to pursue a degree in physical education. A dedicated dual-enrollment student, Paul balanced academics with varsity athletics and more than 450 hours of community service. Through initiatives like Project Warm, Feed Love, and The Rice Bowl, he helps make a meaningful impact on families in need. Paul aspires to become a teacher and coach, promoting lifelong wellness in his community. Gary Tyrone “Ty” Walker Jr. of Griffin, a graduate of Trinity Christian School, will attend the University of Georgia to study sports medicine. A multisport athlete and honor graduate, Ty demonstrated strong leadership as a team captain, student government officer, and homecoming king. He hopes to support athletes through injury prevention and rehabilitation while continuing to serve others. Samuel "Sam" Keldie of Jackson, a graduate of Jackson High School, plans to begin his education in business to become a project manager. Actively involved in athletics, church, and community service, Sam has also gained valuable work experience through internships and summer employment. CGEMC congratulates these students and wishes them the best as they continue their education and compete at the state level. Central Georgia Electric Membership Corporation Announces Unclaimed Capital Credits Checks for 2025

CGEMC is a not-for-profit organization. This means any excess revenue, after covering operating costs, is returned to our members in the form of a capital credits check (based on each member’s energy use). In December 2025, CGEMC issued capital credits refund checks. However, some of the refund checks issued were returned by the U.S. Postal Service as undeliverable. A list of the names of these members can be found by visiting our website, www.cgemc.com/capital-credits, or by viewing the list at our corporate office located at 923 S. Mulberry Street, Jackson, GA 30233. If you know the correct address of these individuals or have any helpful information, please contact our office or notify the member to contact us as soon as possible by calling 770-775-7857 or 1-800-222-4877.

Unclaimed Property

Central Georgia EMC is trying to locate parties that had outstanding credit balances as of June 30, 2021. Visit www.cgemc.com/capital-credits for a full list of names. From Power Lines to Paw Prints, Our Lineworkers Are Always Ready!

What started as a simple Operation Round Up grant presentation turned into a pawsome afternoon in the community. The Central Georgia EMC Foundation was proud to present a $2,500 donation to the Humane Society of Morgan County, made possible by members who opt to round up their monthly electric bills to support local charitable organizations. During the visit, a few of our lineworkers had the chance to spend time with adoptable dogs at the shelter. While they are best known for keeping the lights on, they were just as happy to lend a helping hand, a little extra love, and plenty of belly rubs. Moments like this show what Operation Round Up is all about: neighbors helping neighbors and making a difference close to home. By rounding up your monthly bill to the nearest dollar, you can help create more days like this. Enroll in Operation Round Up today and turn small change into lasting impact.

Qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations in our service territory are invited to submit an application to the Central Georgia EMC Foundation.

Through Operation Round Up, our members support local organizations with a mission to make our communities even better places to live, work, and dream big. By simply rounding up your monthly electric bill to the next dollar, you can join in! Our pennies add up to make BIG CHANGE!
