Lilac Scribbles

Hi All, and Welcome to Lilac Scribbles. Thanks for being here!

Science

As we're nearing the end of our study of reptiles, naturally we had to discuss dinosaurs! The meaning of the word extinct was discussed and the children were reminded that no one knows for certain why dinosaurs no longer exist.

Earth Day

In class we discussed extensively the 3 r's - reduce, recycle, reuse and how they can be applied to our everyday lives. As a class project, we repurposed old crayons and made new ones for each student. We also had an Earth Day watercolor art project.

Geography

The continent of South America was presented. A few facts the children have learned to date: South America has 12 countries; largest country is Brazil; Spanish is spoken in all the countries except Brazil; language spoken in Brazil is Portuguese; largest rainforest in the world is found there; 2nd longest river, the Amazon flows there; favorite sport is football (in US we call it soccer).

The children were introduced to the landform isthmus. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land that has water on both sides. The isthmus of Panama connects North America to South America.

Walk Around the Sun

Nirva Shah celebrated with the class as she took 3 Walks Around the Sun. Happy 3rd Year of Life. Nirva!

Here's our final poem for the year! I look in the mirror and what do I see? I see the me no one else can be. I am precious, I'm glad to be me, My hair, my face, my personality. My size, my shape, the color of my skin, All make up me, outside and in!

March winds brought April showers, April showers bring May flowers

Peace and Blessings!
