Message from our Principal
Dear Mullumbimby High School Community,
As we move further into the term, I would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates and reminders with you.
Year 10 Snow Trip
I am thrilled to report that our Year 10 students had a fantastic experience on their recent snow trip. The opportunity to engage in winter sports and enjoy the beauty of the snow-capped mountains not only provided new outdoor learning experiences but also fostered teamwork and resilience among our students. Thank you to the staff who organised the trip and ensured that everything ran smoothly. We look forward to hearing about the students' adventures and the valuable lessons learned during this memorable experience.
Year 10 Careers Pathways
Other Year 10 students were fortunate to engage with careers and further learning planning last week, with visits to the Northern Rivers Careers expo and opportunities for work experience. Don’t forget families that our Year 10 individual pathway interviews to assist them in choosing their senior secondary pattern of study will be occurring on Wednesday and we look forward to seeing you there. Please contact Ms Elliott if you have missed out.
Years 7-9 Check-in Assessments
Our students in Years 7 to 9 have recently completed their Check-in Assessments. These assessments are vital in helping us understand each student's progress and areas for improvement. Teachers will use this data to provide targeted support and tailor learning experiences that meet the diverse needs of our students. They will also help us to form groups for our small group tuition for literacy and numeracy. As I explained to students before their assessment, it is a great opportunity to target learning gaps and to lift some students from strong learners to excelling. All year groups had stronger results in reading than in numeracy. Year 9 had results stronger than statistically similar schools in reading, as did year 7 and Year 8 were slightly above the state scores.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN results for Year 7 and Year 9 should now have arrived home to families. As a school we have had some pleasing success with Year 9 students achieving in the top 2 bands (strong and exceeding) of reading and writing beyond state levels. Our Year 7 cohort exceeded state levels of achievement in the top 2 bands in reading, writing, grammar and punctuation and numeracy. We still have some growth to achieve in spelling.
Starting HSC Trials
As we approach the end of the term, our Year 12 students are gearing up for their HSC Trial examinations. This is a crucial time for our senior students as they prepare for their final assessments. We encourage all students to remain focused and to seek support from teachers and peers. Remember, hard work and preparation are key to success. We wish them all the best in their trials!
Uniform and Footwear Reminder
I would like to remind all students about the importance of wearing the correct school uniform and appropriate footwear. Our uniform policy promotes a sense of belonging and pride within our school community. Please ensure that your young person comes to school dressed in the correct uniform, including suitable shoes. This not only reflects our school values but also helps maintain a positive learning environment and public image. Please remember that we are phasing out black hoodies and jumpers in favour of the blue jumpers and hoodies available at the uniform shop. Please save pyjama pants and ugg boots for home no matter how cold it is.
Safe Travel on Buses
Lastly, I would like to remind all students about the importance of safe travel on our school buses. Please adhere to the bus safety rules, and be respectful to the bus drivers and fellow passengers. Your safety is our priority, and we appreciate your cooperation in making bus travel a safe experience for everyone.

Community Conversations Successful
We hosted a successful ‘community conversations’ gathering with Mel and her team from Mullum neighbourhood Center, where we brainstormed a number of ideas around what really matters to us, and changes we’d like to see in the community. Those ideas will be added to their melting pot, contributing to future projects. We look forward to supporting and benefiting from those outcomes.
Rescheduling is due to a clash with the Mullumbimby Residents Association meeting to talk about the 3-story development proposed for the car park near the roundabout coming into Mullum town. The meeting on Monday 4 August at 6.30pm will be attended by many of our P&C members, therefore pushing our P&C meeting to the following week. Thanks for your understanding.

The theme of Book week for 2025 is 'Book an Adventure'
Literature is a vehicle, to escape the mundane. Through the power of words, embrace the boundless beauty of human creativity and imagination. By immersing ourselves in stories, we gain perspective, empathy, and resilience, as we learn to navigate the complexities of life. Literature is an adventure.
Please visit our sublime library during Book Week and go on an adventure through literature. See Ms Rachelle Dean or Ms Narelle Bashford in the library if you have any questions.
