Weekly Newsletter wEST mEADOWS - 8th November 2024

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

What a busy first week back we have had! It was lovely to welcome F2 parents into school for a class library session and to read with their children this week! A massive thank you to everyone who came along. I have had the pleasure of seeing lots of wonderful learning in classes this week. All of our children are working really hard with their reading in school and it is great to see the progress they are making. Please support them by reading regularly with them at home – including sharing stories together. We want all of our children at West Meadows to love reading books.

!

SEN Coffee Morning:

On Friday 22nd November at 9:00am Miss Jobling will be holding an SEN Coffee Morning for parents in school. This is a great opportunity to come along and ask any questions, seek any advice and also to meet other parents of children with SEN. It is also a great chance to signpost you to other support and resources across Barnsley.

Parent's Evening:

A reminder that Parents’ Evening appointments are still bookable via Arbor for Thursday 14th November. All appointments will be held in the school hall and parents can enter school via the main school entrance. We are looking forward to seeing you there.

Odd Sock Day/Anti-bullying:

Next week we will be celebrating Anti-bullying week in school, including in assemblies. As part of this week will be showing our individuality and celebrating our uniqueness on Tuesday 12th November with Odd Sock Day. Wear your craziest socks and footwear for the day as part of our Anti-bullying theme week! This year’s theme is ‘Choose Respect’ and we will be doing work and assemblies throughout the week on this key theme, which is also one of our school values.

Autumn 2 Assembly Themes:

Each half term we explore a different one of our school values in assembly. This half term our key value is: ‘We Are Kind’. We will be reading some of our favourite stories about being kind; learning all about treating others with respect and looking at spreading a little kindness around school with ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ week. We will also spend time exploring Diwali (The Festival of Light), Remembrance and the Christmas story.

Remembrance Day:

We have had an incredible response to this year’s Poppy Appeal in support of the Royal British Legion for Remembrance Sunday. Thank you for all of your donations! On Sunday, members of our school council will be laying a poppy wreath at the Cenotaph as part of the Remembrance Service. Thank you to all of those children in School Council and their families who have volunteered to attend and represent the school.

Children In Need:

On Friday 15th November, children can come to school in non school uniform to show their support for Children in Need. We will not be collecting money in school but donations can be made at the Children in Need website.

Little Westies

Unfortunately, there will be no Little Westies next week. We apologies for any inconvenience.

Attendance Matters!

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to be good attendance.

Last Week's Attendance:

F1 AM (incl 30 hours): 88.8%

F2: 98.9%

Year 1: 95.4%

Year 2: 96.5%

Year 3: 97%

Year 4: 97.7%

Year 5: 92.1%

Year 6: 90.9%

Congratulations to this week's winners, FS2
