Boarders' Bulletin

March 2026

Welcome to the March Edition of the Boarders' Bulletin.

Dear Parents and Guardians, As we come to the end of a wonderfully full and rewarding term, I want to reflect on the many achievements, moments of joy, and shared experiences that have shaped our boarding community over the past weeks. It has been a term rich with learning, creativity, adventure and school spirit.

Our spectacular production of Matilda was a true highlight, showcasing the confidence, talent and teamwork of students both on stage and behind the scenes. Science Week brought a buzz of curiosity to classrooms and houses alike, and the Spring Concert offered a beautiful celebration of musical talent across all ages. On the sports fields, our hockey and netball teams have secured a string of excellent wins, reflecting their dedication and determination.

Within boarding itself, our House Dinners once again strengthened the sense of belonging and camaraderie that makes our community so special. Beyond the school gates, our senior Classicists enjoyed an inspiring trip to Rome, bringing ancient history vividly to life, while several of our Sixth Formers celebrated outstanding news with Oxbridge offers — achievements that reflect years of commitment and intellectual drive.

Students also challenged themselves outdoors through Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, demonstrating resilience, leadership and teamwork in often testing conditions. Back at school, the annual House Shout was full of energy, humour and friendly rivalry, and the Easter Egg Hunt brought the term to a close.

I would like to take a moment to offer our thanks to three of our Senior Five leaders — Hugo, Sophia and Tom — who will be handing over their roles in the coming months. Their enthusiasm, maturity and unwavering commitment have had a tangible impact not only on the boarding community but on the whole school. They have set an excellent example of service and leadership, and we are deeply grateful for all they have contributed.

As we head into the break, we are especially mindful of our Year 11 and Year 13 students, who will begin their GCSE and A level examinations shortly after their return. We know they will use this time wisely to rest, revise and prepare, and we are here to support them every step of the way.

Thank you, as always, to our boarding parents and guardians for your continued support, and to our exceptional boarding staff team for their dedication and care. Most of all, thank you to the students — whose spirit, kindness and willingness to get involved make boarding life so vibrant and rewarding.

I wish everyone a restful and refreshing Easter break. We look forward to welcoming students back for another exciting term ahead.

Warm regards, Dave Carney Director of Boarding

THE HOUSES

Scott

What a term it has been! There have been so many successes in Scott this half term that it is difficult to know where to begin!!! The theme of the half term has been house unity. From preparations for House Shout to the interhouse challenges in benchball, dodgeball, and netball, there has been a real sense of togetherness. Special thanks go to Jasmine and Grace for all their behind-the-scenes planning.

The benchball competition against Cornwallis was very much a David versus Goliath encounter, with Scott certainly mirroring David in size. Unfortunately, Cornwallis’s height advantage proved too much on this occasion. However, the girls triumphed convincingly against them on the netball court. The local rivalry against Blubery was clear in the dodgeball match, with Scott coming out victorious.

Scott has shown tremendous house spirit, from Saturday morning park runs to, most recently, the senior house netball, where Scott representation dominated the team and led to an impressive victory. This sense of house solidarity was also evident in the end-of-term House Shout, where Grace’s work with the entire house resulted in a well-deserved first place in the large group category, alongside a highly commendable runners-up finish in the small group. What an incredible few weeks it has been—not only on the sporting front, but also in the arts.

This term has also seen Year 11 and Year 13 students recognised for their efforts in their mock examinations, with special mention going to Tiwa and Anu. Grace and Talia were also recognised for their outstanding embodiment of Scott spirit.

Boarders’ Bingo is always a highlight of the boarding calendar, and this term certainly did not disappoint. It was wonderful to see Daisy winning a share of the top prize!

This half term, we have welcomed Trinia and Bodia to the Scott family, and they have settled in seamlessly. Years 11, 12, and 13 have all enjoyed tutor trips this term, ranging from sushi to Thai restaurants. It has been lovely to see the girls relaxing and enjoying each other’s company. Meanwhile, Years 9 and 10 are busily planning their tutor trips for next half term.

Next half term brings the eagerly awaited event of the year, the Scott Ball, alongside the Leavers’ BBQ, and the start of external exams for Years 11 and 13. I know the girls will be spending their Easter break studying, but I am confident that their hard work will pay off. All that remains to be said is that the girls are ending this half term on a tremendous high and fully deserve a well-earned break—and perhaps some chocolate! Happy Easter to the entire Scott family, and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday, 20th April.

Rammell

It’s been another lively and memorable term in Rammell, packed with a brilliant mix of competition, food, and house spirit.

We kicked things off with a highly competitive round of Boarders Bingo, which brought out both the tactical minds and questionable luck of the house in equal measure. Not long after, Rachel’s much-anticipated fried chicken visit returned and, unsurprisingly, did not disappoint.

Sport has played a big part in the term, with a fiercely contested Boarders vs Day football match and plenty of energy on display. The arrival of the better weather also meant the first of many BBQs, which have quickly become a staple once again. Alongside this, Ed treated the house to his now famous paella, while Louis stepped up to cook crepes for everyone both going down extremely well.

As ever, Rammell has been well represented at numerous Parkruns, with strong turnouts and plenty of kilometres clocked up. Meanwhile, a long-awaited milestone was finally ticked off as the informal house photo was taken a rare moment of organisation that we won’t take for granted.

There have also been some fantastic individual achievements this term. A huge congratulations to Tom and Isa for competing in the British Economics Olympiad, with Tom going one step further and winning the competition. He will now go on to represent Great Britain in China an outstanding achievement and one the whole house is incredibly proud of.

The social calendar has been just as busy. Highlights included an Easter egg hunt, the Sellers House dinner, and a brilliant Boarders’ House Shout to round things off in style always a favourite and a great way to bring everyone together.

All in all, it’s been a term full of energy, laughter, and memorable moments. As always, it’s been great to see the boys making the most of every opportunity and contributing to the positive, inclusive atmosphere that makes Rammell what it is.

Josh Houston, Deputy Head of House

Blubery

It may have been a short term for Blubery House, but it has certainly been a busy one! From competitions and celebrations to rehearsals and excitement building for next term’s events, the girls have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into every moment.

We began the term with a burst of energy at the ever‑popular Boarders’ Bingo. The room was alive with competitive spirits and laughter, and the highlight of the evening was seeing Anya walk away triumphantly with one of the prizes. Her win set the tone for a term full of enthusiasm and friendly fun.

One of the standout social events this term was the Allan Blubery Dinner, held at the London Beach Hotel in Tenterden. It was a resounding success, giving the girls a wonderful evening to dress up, connect, and celebrate Blubery pride in style alongside their academic day house friends. Even more excitement surrounds our own annual Blubery Dinner, scheduled for the first Friday back next term (24th April). The house is already buzzing with chatter about outfits, hairstyles, and plans for the evening. Delivery drivers have been kept very busy with a steady flow of dress packages arriving—poor things!

The final weekend of term brought the much‑anticipated Easter Egg Hunt—and for the second year running, Blubery claimed victory! The girls showcased exceptional teamwork, determination, and, quite evidently, an extraordinary ability to sniff out chocolate. Their delight was palpable and well‑deserved.

A major highlight of the term has been House Shout, undoubtedly one of the most important events in the house calendar. The girls rehearsed every single day, filling the house with harmonies, laughter, and the occasional dramatic flourish.

Their performance on stage last night was exceptional. They radiated energy, confidence, and clear enjoyment from start to finish. While we just missed the top spot—earning a proud runners‑up position—Blubery House secured the coveted Most Entertaining Award, a reflection of their spirit and creativity. I could not be more proud of them.

With exam season approaching, we wish our hardworking Year 11 and Year 13 students every success. Their dedication is evident, and we hope the break offers a chance to rest, recharge, and prepare for the term ahead. We are all cheering them on.

Claire Pack, Head of House

Crowden

As the Spring Term draws to a close, it has been a pleasure to look back over a season filled with energy, achievement, tradition, and no small amount of fun. Working backwards from the grand finale, we ended in wonderful style with a hugely successful House Shout. The boys did themselves proud once again—every voice counted, from the polished harmonies and impressive commitment shown by the small group to the surprisingly tuneful big group. The hard work, the rehearsals, the good humour, and the competitive spirit all shone through brilliantly. Not the result we wanted, but the boys have responded perfectly to the disappointment – there’s always next year!

Not long before that, the whole house enjoyed the Easter Bunny Hunt, which sent pupils dashing around the school site with Easter-themed enthusiasm – with the House Captain finding the best hiding spot in the school. The annual Crowden House Dinner was another major highlight of the term. It was a warm and memorable evening, offering us the opportunity to say farewell and good luck to our leavers, while also introducing our new Senior Team for 2026–27. Their responsibilities begin in earnest next term—leadership starts now, and we look forward to seeing how they shape inter-house and intra-house dynamics in the months ahead.

Earlier in March, Wear What You Like Day brought colour and creativity to the house, all in aid of Movember and the Sam West Foundation. The chosen theme of Nerd Out produced an impressive array of outfits, from Star Wars to cartoon characters to fully committed retro-geek chic.

Science Week brought its own excitement. The undisputed highlight—judging by cheers and the odd misfire—was the rocket launches on Cornwallis Field. Designs varied wildly, but enthusiasm was universal.

With the arrival of brighter days, our long‑planned garden improvements have finally come to life. The refreshed gazebo, new furniture, and expanded planting have already transformed the space. Perfect timing, too, as the pupils will soon be making good use of the outdoors during Study Leave and the warmer weather after Easter.

Musically, the Spring Concert showcased some outstanding talent and dedication, while weekends provided a delightful range of cultural excursions curated by Mrs Barry. These included Chinese New Year goodies, and external speaker, and opportunities to explore their tastebuds more widely. For those craving action, Laser Quest proved as popular as ever, and the Horsley–Crowden Dinner offered another enjoyable social moment in our shared calendar. We also celebrated effort and progress across the house with a rewards pizza night, and the boarders kept spirits high with the ever‑competitive Boarders’ Bingo.

As we head into the break, a reminder that there is much to look forward to: Study Leave, Sports Day, the reopening of morning swims, games of Kubb and other garden activities, cricket nets for some, tennis for others, and the full range of traditional summer opportunities that help define the final term.

It has been a lively, productive, and joyful Spring Term. My sincere thanks to pupils, parents, and staff for everything they have contributed to the success and spirit of the house. I wish you all a restorative Easter break, and I look forward to the sunshine, the challenges, and the achievements that await us next term.

Mr Watts & the Crowden Team

Cornwallis

This term, our boarders have embraced both academic and extracurricular challenges with great enthusiasm and determination. We have had Year 11,12 and 13 Mock exams throughout this year with many of our boys showing great dedication in their revision planning. Our Year 9’s and 10’s have also been working hard in the classroom, forming good habits to prepare them for the years ahead. The house staff are committed to supporting all the boys in their academic efforts and will continue to do so as we head into the business end of the school year.

Outside of school the Cornwallis boys have been involved in a whirlwind of activities this term. They have taken part in Chinese New Year celebrations, had biscuit decorating competitions, been to escape rooms, all you can eat buffets, shopping tips, BBQ’s, fishing, ten pin bowling, curry nights, a 6 Nations rugby sweepstake, a London theatre trip, house roast dinners and so much more.

On the sporting side of things we have had Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball house competitions. We also joined forces with other houses for the Day v Boarding Charity football match (Boarders won!) and had a friendly game of bench ball against Scott and a more competitive game of netball against them too! We also had the pleasure of hosting the Blubery 6th formers in Cornwallis for a pancake and prosecco night. The term was topped off firstly with a Cornwallis Easter Egg hunt followed by the whole boarding community hunt around the entire School site last weekend.

We have worked hard and played easy and as we approach the upcoming exams and study leave period, I wish all our students the best of luck and a restful Easter break. Thank you for your continued support as always and your dedication to our community.

Matt Copping, Head of House

From all the Boarding Team, we wish you a wonderful Easter break!
