Welcome to this week's newsletter
As we move further into the examination season, there is a real sense of purpose and momentum across the school. It has been particularly encouraging to see the positive attitude shown by our Year 11 students, many of whom are making full use of booster sessions, revision opportunities and additional staff support. What stands out most is the growing maturity with which students are approaching their studies — identifying the habits that lead to success, supporting one another and taking genuine ownership of their preparation. These small daily decisions will make a significant difference over the coming weeks, and we are proud of the commitment being shown. Our Year 13 students are also setting an excellent example. Increasing numbers are arriving early each morning to make productive use of the Sixth Form Centre before lessons begin. Establishing a disciplined and purposeful start to the day is an important part of successful independent study, and it has been pleasing to see the calm, focused atmosphere they are creating. As they prepare for the next stage of their education and careers, these routines and habits will serve them exceptionally well. Alongside academic success, we remain committed to developing a culture where students are willing to educate and support one another through shared experiences. This week’s student-led assembly on tics and tic-related disorders was a powerful example of this. We are extremely grateful to Kenai in Year 13 and Logan in Year 8 for speaking so openly and confidently about their personal journeys. Their willingness to raise awareness and help others better understand these conditions demonstrated remarkable courage and maturity, and the impact on the wider student body was significant. I wish you all a great weekend to rest and relax.

Student sporting success
Congratulations to Lucie C in Year 10 for her recent success in the Northamptonshire Athletic Association Track & Field Championships last weekend. She was crowned U16 girls champion in shot put with a new PB, as well as coming second in hammer and third in both discus and long jump. Lucie's sister Darci also took part in the championships and secured a SB in the 200m and a PB in the 100m. Well done to both girls! We always enjoy hearing about the achievements of our students outside of school. If you would like to share any success stories with us, please email enquiries@manor.school
Why students value school
When we asked students why coming to school matters, many said it’s about seeing friends, learning new things, and taking part in clubs, sport and trips.
- Jade: Education is like a chapter in a book - miss a chapter and you wouldn't know or understand the rest of the book
- Kelly: I like coming to school because I get to see my friends
- Tommy: To build a future, it must start here
- Hetty: It is fun because you can see your friends all day and it matters because it gives you the education for jobs and your future
- Noah: I go to school because it helps you get a job and helps you socialise; I like the music and drama opportunities as well
- Layne: No matter much you hate school, it still matters for the future - you just don't realise it yet
- Alice: We come to school to study. We come to school for our buddies. We come to school to grow. We come to school to flow.
- Erin: School helps you towards your future job because it can improve your learning and improve your creative skills
Regular attendance helps students feel part of the school community and builds confidence in their learning. Thank you to parents/carers for encouraging your child to attend school and lessons regularly.
Instrumental lessons
We are pleased to offer your child the opportunity to either continue their instrumental music lessons next year or to begin to receive instrumental music lessons in the next academic year. Music lessons are provided by specialist teachers from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust. Details of the lessons available and how much they cost can be found as part of the application form. Many of our musicians are members of school music groups which rehearse weekly and perform regularly at school events. In previous years some musicians have also performed at a variety of prestigious venues including The Royal and Derngate Theatre, Spinney Hill Theatre, The Castle Theatre and have enjoyed success in the Rotary Young Musician Competition. We have also experienced international music concert tours, where musicians embraced the opportunity to perform in completely new environments. This is a thriving music department and we encourage all students to take part in the extra activities and clubs that are available to them. Their lessons provide them with the individual support and guidance they need to develop, whilst the school groups provide the opportunity for enjoying their music with peers and showcasing their talents in public concerts. Please find below an application form for you to complete if your child would like to continue or start lessons during the forthcoming academic year. Please note that if your child is pupil premium eligible, then we can support with the costing for the instrumental lessons. Please return the reply slip via email to mjarvis@manor.school, no later than Friday 19 June.
The music department at Manor School, together with staff from Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust, look forward to helping develop your child’s musical skills and enjoyment of the subject next academic year.
