John Harris Silvermine Guild Artist | 2010 - present

During the 80s, my brother and I were whitewater slalom enthusiasts, competing across the US and Europe. We paddled many rivers from the Potomac to the Colorado, the Isere in France, to the Passer in Merano, Italy. In 1987, I also earned my MFA in painting. Since the early 90s, I have been painting these rivers, landscapes, and ocean scenes that I have become familiar with. I will isolate and exaggerate forms, colors, and sequences found in water. I enjoy painting the transparency, reflections, and turbidity characteristic of the water’s surface. I address these issues by isolating a moment in time, painting from a bird’s eye view. The results are a series of peaceful and hypnotic paintings in which water is disguised as tree canopies and the skies above.
Rocky River, oil on linen, 30 x 30 inch , $4,500.
