Life in Water

I created a Hawkbill Turtle in the style of Andreas Preis featuring large chunks of sharp geometric shapes to comprise of the Turtle. My goal was to create the turtle drawing inspiration from Preis, not to copy his style exactly. I chopped large portions of space into different shapes to give the painting depth. I learnt, through painting this piece, how to use different patterns as values and shading. I hope that my audience sees my piece and explores more artists with alternative art styles.

Chef's Art

I created a display of various fruits, vegetables, and other delicacies laid about on a table. My goal was to use water paint to create a simulation of what one might see whilst in a chef’s kitchen. I gave shading and used a stroke pattern that reflected how I saw each food. I used very intense colors to display that each and every aspect of the kitchen is brimming with life. I learnt a lot about how fruits and foods are shaped and how there are patterns everywhere in everyday life. I hope my audience can see how different patterns shape our world and how they can spot them everywhere.

Tartan Pride

I created a person in variations of Tartan (Var. in color, design, and representation). My original goal was to create a person made of Celtic and other tartan patterns, and while creating this I learned more about what the tartan variations meant, and the history of the different clans that use them. I used these histories to apply them to certain elements in the painting. For example, I used gray, blue, and green to represent the environment and used yellow and white for the person because those colors represent something spiritually rather than physically. I feel curious when I see this project and hope that the audience feels curious to learn more about the culture.
