HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS, MANAGERS, AND COACHES

UPON YOUR ARRIVAL

Standard hotel procedures when checking-in require a credit card deposit for any incidental charges. Please remember, hockey sticks will not be allowed in the hotel or rooms, because sticks tend to cause accidental damage in the rooms and halls. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping player’s sticks in your cars or on the team bus.

MIRACLES HAPPEN HERE

TOURNAMENT CREDENTIAL

All tournament package participants will receive a tournament credential. You will receive your credential when you check-in at your hotel. The credential will specify if the participant is an adult or youth (ages 6-17). This credential is required for each participant for entrance into the arenas, hotel dining rooms, and Olympic venues. The Tournament Credential is just like cash, so unfortunately, if a Tournament Credential is lost, CAN/AM cannot replace it.

On the back of your Credential you will find a QR Code. Scan for more information on Olympic Venue availability, hours, and special rates for CAN/AM Credential holders.

Please make sure your Credentials are worn around your neck throughout the weekend. Event Staff will be at the rink entrances and you will be required to show your credential to gain entry.

After the skate, everyone will vacate the ice and remove skating equipment in anticipation of Opening Ceremony. Teams (players and coaches) will gather and stand on the mezzanine floor in the 1980 Arena between sections 2 and 10. Parents and spectators are requested to take a seat in the 1980 Arena between sections 16 and 24.

CAN/AM Staff will be on hand to direct players and parents to their respective areas.

Our Opening Ceremony will include a team march (no skates, helmets optional) onto the ice, parade of ceremonial flags, playing of National Anthems, and procession with the torch. The Opening Ceremony is open to all of our players, and coaches. Join us for this awesome experience. Don’t forget to wear your team jersey and apparel!

Neck laceration protection (neck guard) is required for all players in all age classifications.

Skate sharpening will be offered at two locations:

THE THRILL OF COMPETITION

SKILLS COMPETITION

Six players from each team will be selected by their coach to participate in the Skills Competition (Shoot-out and Relay). The exact time will be posted on the tournament schedule. Please plan on attending this exciting event and cheering on the players.

SHOOT-OUT

The Shoot-Out. The tension. The excitement. One-on-One. In this classic event, shooters and goaltenders gather in front of their teams and their fans to compete in the most prestigious individual event in hockey! Don't miss this opportunity to put your team up against all others, as they all compete to produce one shooter and one goaltender who can covet the title, "Shoot-Out Winner"! Make sure your team is a part of this exciting event. Get ready for some breakaway fun!

FORMAT AND RULES

  • All participants must be in full equipment.
  • Players should be ready to take the ice promptly at the Shoot-Out start time. Failure to do so will affect your warm-up time.
  • Shooters will have a chance to warm-up their goaltenders prior to the event.
  • Shooters and Goaltenders will each be given separate instructions just prior to the event.
  • The Order of Goaltenders and Shooters will be drawn at random just prior to the event.
  • The Shooter will shoot three pucks which will be placed on the Blue Line. The Shooters can take the pucks in any order that they prefer. Once the Shooter starts skating with the puck, they may not stop their forward progress. The Shooter can then take one shot with no rebound. After the first shot, the Shooter must quickly skate around and take the remaining shots.
  • The Goaltender will face three shots from a Shooter. The Goaltender must stay in the crease until the puck is touched by the Shooter. Once the Shooter touches the puck, the Goaltender is free to leave the crease and challenge the Shooter if so desired. After the first shot, the Goaltender should immediately return to the crease and prepare for the remaining shots.
  • After each round, CAN/AM Officials will tally the results and announce which Shooters and which Goaltenders have won or advanced into subsequent rounds. Remember: The Goaltenders' and Shooters' contests are independent of one another. The winners in one group and which round they are announced in have no relationship to the winners in the other group.
  • CAN/AM reserves the right to announce winners at any point in the contest which they deem fair and equitable.
NEED FOR SPEED

RELAY RACE

This is an exciting event that offers an opportunity for all the teams and their fans to gather in one arena and participate in this skills challenge. Players take great pride in competing and their team and their fans have the chance to show their loyal support! Make sure that your team is a part of this special event!

FORMAT AND RULES

Each team can enter 4 players from its roster. The only restriction is that players participating in the Shoot-Out Competition are not eligible for the Relay.

The Relay consists of 4 equal legs. Each member of the team will skate one full lap around the Arena and then pass the "baton" between the blue lines.

A hockey stick (representing a baton in this relay) will be passed from one skater to another within the blue lines "passing zone".

Failure to pass the hockey stick within the designated area will result in disqualification.

Deliberate interference with other skaters will result in the disqualification of the team causing the infraction. The determination of an infraction is subject to the decision of the CAN/AM Relay Officials.

HELPFUL HINTS

Have your players practice passing the stick. Decide which side the receiver should look to and how the stick should be gripped.

Tell your players to never give up even if they are far behind. We have seen a leading skater fall on the last turn and suddenly the race was wide open!

GO FOR GOLD!

A GREAT WEEKEND OF HOCKEY AWAITS YOU!
