The BIG GIG Gala

The Annual BIG GIG raises more than $600,000

Guests of the annual gala fundraiser were wrapped in the coziness of a luxury mountain ski chalet after an invigorating day on the slopes. A gondola-themed photo booth and Bernese Mountain therapy dogs set the stage for an evening as sparkling as freshly-fallen snow, including dinner, silent auction shopping, live music and dancing. Approximately 480 attended the event, held on September 28, 2024, which was emceed by our friend and supporter, Dionne Miller, ABC 7 Chicago weekend sports anchor and reporter.

Bowling Fundraiser

Inaugural Bowling "Funraiser"

On Thursday, February 29, 2024, 210 bowlers forming 35 teams of six bowlers each, filled the lanes at Bowlero in Naperville for Edward Foundation’s Bonus Day inaugural bowling tournament.

This family-friendly event included prizes for bowling prowess, bowling shirt design as well as team name creativity, and participants did not disappoint.

The intersection of health care and bowling provided ample fodder for fun team names, including Pin-icillans, Ebowla and Spare Meds. Others engaged in Pinappropriate Behavior or were Too Legit to Split. Seems like all the teams were Livin’ on a Spare.

Walk to Remember

Annual Walk to Remember raises a record $52,000

More than 900 participants came out for the 20th annual “Walk to Remember” fundraiser for the SHARE Pregnancy and Infant Loss program, which raised over $52,000.

SHARE is a support group at Edward Hospital for those who have experienced a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth or neonatal death. The event features a memorial service in which the names of the babies were read, followed by a one-and-one-half mile memorial walk.

Walk proceeds also support SHARE’s counseling services, bereavement training and education, and the Wings of Hope Angel Garden on the hospital’s campus. This outdoor space offers a place where grieving parents can seek peace and comfort.

Employee Giving

The 2025 Employee Giving Campaign raised more than $94,000.

More than 252 managers, employees and physicians participated in the campaign.

Managers, physicians and employees showed that they were superfans of the hospital by investing in the patient centered mission through their contributions to the annual Employee Giving Campaign.

These contributions are divided between restricted gifts to support a specific program or service, and unrestricted gifts, allow flexibility to fund priority needs, including critical patient care improvements.

Foundation Scholarships

Nursing Scholarships

Edward Foundation awarded $49,000 in nursing scholarships to 14 Endeavor Health Edward Hospital employees who are pursuing a degree or advanced degree in nursing.

Volunteer Scholarships

Edward Foundation awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 10 Edward Hospital student volunteers, who greet visitors, deliver flowers, transport patients and assist behind the scenes at the hospital.

Investments in Care

New LINAC decreases risk for cancer patients

Radiation has long been used as a treatment for oncology patients. Through the course of treatment, however, there is a risk of damage to healthy tissue surrounding a tumor.

Medical linear accelerators (LINAC) represent a major advancement in image guided radiation technology. The machine customizes high energy x-rays or electrons to conform to a tumor's shape and destroy cancer cells while sparing surrounding normal tissue. LINACs can be prohibitively expensive.

In November 2024 Edward Hospital’s Oncology Department added a LINAC to the leading-edge radiation tools it offers in its treatment of patients. The new technology decreases the risk of damage to surrounding healthy tissue and organs, resulting in fewer complications and greater quality of life for patients receiving radiation treatment.

Your contributions allowed Edward Foundation to provide over $3 million to the purchase of a LINAC.

Perinatal bereavement room offers peace to grieving parents

Endeavor Health Edward Hospital physician, Nick Love, DO, had a vision to open a bereavement room for parents who have suffered a loss. He and his wife Melissa Mickey began attending SHARE after the loss of their son, Liam. Nick and Melissa wanted to help raise funds and provide a space for other loss families.

The impact of perinatal loss can be devastating, ranging from grief, anxiety, depression and even symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. After years of fundraising, and a pandemic, Dr. Love’s vision came to fruition.

The Serenity Suite, located in the South Lobby of Edward Hospital, adjacent to the Mother and Baby unit, was created by a $300,000 contribution from Edward Foundation through your philanthropy.

Care stations for preemies

The Giraffe Omnibed Carestation (Giraffe bed) is a device functioning as a mother’s womb for babies weighing less than a one and three-quarters pounds or born prior to 26 weeks’ gestation.

The first few weeks post-delivery for micro preemies are crucial as their lungs have not fully developed and their skin is so delicate that moving them is risky. Giraffe beds function as both an incubator and bed (one less device in the room), allowing for gentle, easy access to tiny babies for parents and caregivers, while eliminating the stress of moving a baby. All the necessary care during the incubator stage can be managed in the bed.

The Giraffe Omnibed Carestations were provided by Edward Foundation

Cardiac Ultrasound system

Used for echocardiograms this new machine brings powerful AI-capabilities and advanced diagnostic tools to help achieve greater consistency, accessible innovation, smarter workflows, and easier scalability.

An “echo” shows the structure and function of a heart, including the size and movement of the heart chambers, functioning of heart valves, blood flow through the heart and the thickness of the heart walls. They allow doctors to assess for conditions like heart valve disease, heart failure, heart muscle damage, and congenital heart defects.

Your contributions allowed Edward Foundation to provide $200,00 for the acquisition of the system.

Treatment for depression through Linden Oaks

Linden Oaks Behavioral Health has begun using TMS treatment, or neuromodulation, through BrainsWay, to treat depression by stimulating the brain using non-invasive electromagnetic fields. The treatment can be an effective option for reducing the symptoms of depression in adults. The treatment is safe, can be performed in an office setting and is free of side effects. TMS can be an alternative for those who cannot tolerate antidepressant medications or do not want to take them.

Edward Foundation provided the funding to acquire the BrainsWay devices.

Testimonials

“Neuromodulation (TMS) is one of the most effective treatments for depression; and its side effects are generally much fewer and more tolerable than those of medications. Patients tell us time and again that TMS has been a miracle, treating their depression when nothing else was working. It has allowed them to regain their ability to participate in life and regain their sense of self-worth.” Dr. Brad Cutler, physician, regarding BrainsWay at Linden Oaks.
“It was comforting to know that the patient’s family was in a gentle, comfortable and safe space. They were able to privately sort through…their unexpected journey…. It allowed them…to have unguarded conversations and ask difficult questions… without feeling like they were on display,” Meaghan Reynolds, RN, BSN, regarding the Serenity Suite.
“You’re with Edward Foundation? Thank you for the PET-SCAN you provided. It saves at least ten lives a day,” PET-SCAN tech in the elevator with a staff member.
