LAKELAND, Fla. - After taking the series opener, the Eckerd baseball team fell to Florida Southern 5-1, and 17-7 (7 Inn.) at Henley Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Mocs led early, with a run in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 favor. A 1-2-3 inning for Rene Ramos ended with a strikeout, for his second strikeout in as many innings. Ramos struck out back-to-back batters in the bottom of the third for Eckerd to escape the inning, leaving one stranded at third.

Kyle Abbott equalized for the Tritons in the fifth with an RBI single to right center field before the Mocs took the lead back in the bottom of the frame. Nick Romagnola came in relief in the sixth, posting back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. The Mocs added three more insurance runs in the top of the eighth, with Eckerd unable to comeback, falling 5-1 in game one.

The rubber match began in a similar fashion, with the Tritons falling behind 1-0 in the opening frame. A Tyler Young homerun evened the tally for Eckerd in the second. A three-run homerun in the second got the ball rolling for Florida Southern. The Moccasins added five more runs in the following inning for a 9-1 favor.

An RBI triple by Abbott and an RBI single by Christian Perez in the fourth brought the deficit down to six. The Mocs retaliated with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame. A two-RBI single by Alex Brazer brought Eckerd down to a five-run deficit before Florida Southern added six more in the frame. A pair of runs in the sixth kept Eckerd in the game before an RBI single by Florida Southern in the bottom of the seventh walked the game off with a run-rule win, 17-7.

Last season, Collier started all 39 games he appeared in. He produced a .310/.405/.472 slash line, tallying 44 hits and five homeruns. Collier had a six-RBI game against Palm Beach Atlantic on March 18 while hitting two homeruns in the contest. He was named to the All-SSC Defensive Team and to the ABCA All-Region Defensive Team.
