Hey Dustdevils!

  • Thank you for making this year’s The Big Event a Big Success! Over 500 of your classmates, friends, faculty, staff and alumni gathered to create an impact in our local community. This year, volunteers focused on beautifying trail areas, trash pick-up, supporting community food distribution, and more. We were glad to have been joined by fellow students from Laredo College for the second year in a row and thank them for their support.
  • The Big Event is made possible through a collaborative partnership between the University’s Office of Student Affairs, the City of Laredo, South Texas Food Bank, the Student Government Association’s Leaders Organizing Volunteer Events Committee, the National Society of Leadership and Success, H-E-B, the Laredo Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability, Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center, and Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages.
  • Registration for Maymester, Summer and Fall 2026 courses began Monday, March 30 at 8 a.m. with a staggered registration schedule for various student groups. To view your registration date, visit: https://go.tamiu.edu/registration.
  • Our next IBC Bank & Commerce Bank 2025-2026 Keynote Speaker Series will feature award-winning, New York Times journalist and global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman. The lecture is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom. The event kicks off University’s 30th Annual Western Hemispheric Trade Conference, happening April 15 – 17. The annual conference brings together academic researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss an array of topics affecting the Western Hemisphere in today’s global business world.

TAMIU Day in Eagle Pass, TX brought future Dustdevils one step closer to their academic goals at Southwest Texas College. The visit marked a meaningful milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Texas A&M International University and Southwest Texas College, expanding opportunities for student success across our region.

TAMIU Maymester, Summer and Fall 2026 Registration Starts this Week

Registration for TAMIU's Maymester, Summer and Fall 2026 courses begins Monday, March 30 with a staggered registration schedule for various student groups.  The following registration schedule will be used for students.

  • Monday, March 30 – Tuesday, March 31: Graduate students, Seniors (90+ total earned credit hours), Honor students, Early College High School students, Texas Academy of International and STEM Studies students, Parenting student, Student-Athletes, Esports Athletes, Active Duty students and Veterans,
  • Wednesday, April 1: Juniors (60-89 earned credit hours), TRIO Program students, and CAMP students.
  • Thursday, April 2: All students

Discover Innovative Teaching at the Ignite Faculty Innovation Townhall

The TAMIU Community is invited to attend the virtual event, “Ignite Faculty Innovation Townhall: Spotlighting Transformative Approaches to Teaching,” hosted by The Texas A&M University System in collaboration with the Council for Academic Technology and Innovative Education (CATIE). The event will take place on Thursday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This engaging session will explore what’s possible when faculty collaborate, exchange breakthrough ideas, and push the boundaries of traditional instruction. Participants will gain insight into innovative and transformative approaches to teaching and learning across the A&M System, with a special focus on academic technology. The event is open to all faculty, staff, and students within the System, and attendance is free. Register here to join the conversation and be part of advancing innovation in education.

Upcoming Events Offered through the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library

In collaboration with the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, the TAMIU Dance program and the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Fine and Performing Arts is hosting an Open House for anyone interested to come meet Dance faculty and current dance students. The event will include a tour of the dance facilities, a master class in Contemporary Dance and Ballet Folklorico, refreshments, and a chance to learn about the program.

The Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library’s Special Collections and Archives will host the grand opening of the traveling exhibition Texas America250, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States through materials highlighting Texas history and civic life. The event will feature remarks from the University’s President as the guest of honor, followed by a faculty presentation on women’s suffrage, one of the themes highlighted in the exhibition. Guests are invited to view the exhibit and join a reception following the talks.

IBC Bank and Commerce Bank 2025–2026 Keynote Speaker Series Features Expert on Supply Chain Disruptions April 15

TAMIU's IBC Bank & Commerce Bank 2025-2026 Keynote Speaker Series will feature award-winning, New York Times journalist and global economics correspondent Peter S. Goodman in a lecture titled "How the World Ran Out of Everything: Inside the Global Supply Chain." The lecture will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom (STC 203). Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

TAMIU QEP to Celebrate with LEARN Expo, Undergraduate Research Week, Photo Contest and More

The LEARN Expo, an opportunity to celebrate and showcase experiential learning (EL) activities on campus, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 in WHTC 111 from 10-11 a.m. and 3:30-4:30 p.m. Students are welcome to view the presentations and help select the coveted title of “Student Favorite Poster.” Limited edition Earnie Stress Balls will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to visitors. Undergraduate Research Week Celebration - LEARN joins the national celebration of Undergraduate Research Week from April 20-24, 2026!

  • Social Media Photo Contest – submissions accepted from April 1-10; Join the social media photo contest and show us what research means to you! We have a grand prize for the most liked image.
  • Research Resume Workshop – Join this workshop to learn, create, and strengthen your scientific or research oriented resume! The goal of the workshop is to provide tools, structure, and strategies to highlight your scientific skills, research experiences, and academic preparation.
  • Scholarly Communication Workshop – Set up your ORCID account and learn about Zotero to help you organize, annotate, and cite research materials.
  • Lightning Talk Competition – Present your research work in this Lightning Talk Competition! You’ll have 5-minutes to present a quick overview, key findings and takeaways of your research work. Register by April 5 to secure your spot!
  • Graduate Research Showcase – Hosted jointly by Graduate School, LEARN, and the College of Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Association, the Graduate Research Showcase highlights the breadth and depth of research conducted by TAMIU graduate students across all disciplines and offers opportunities for cross-disciplinary networking. The event will feature a research poster presentation session with a competition, and the top three presenters will be recognized with awards.
  • Research Resume Revision – Book a 20-minute spot to revise your resume with Career Services and LEARN Staff!
  • The University Honors & Undergraduate Research Program (UHURP) is currently accepting applications for 2026-27. The program encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and innovative problem-solving skills through innovative course contracts. Some benefits at a glance: priority registration, unique scholarship opportunities, conference travel funding, networking with faculty, and special graduation recognition. Interested students can view program requirements and applications details in this page: go.tamiu.edu/honors-apply. Tabling events will also be hosted in the Breezeway on April 8, 21, and 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Deadline to apply is May 31.

UISD District Tennis Tournament at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex

TAMIU employees and students are invited to attend the UISD District Tennis Tournament on April 27 and 28 at the City of Laredo Tennis Complex at TAMIU. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. each day, continuing until approximately 5 p.m. on Friday and concluding around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Please note that the tennis complex will be closed for regular use during those two days. However, spectators are welcome, and admission is free. Come out and enjoy some great tennis!

TAMIU PhD Student Earns 1st Place for Poster Presentation at ACJS Annual Meeting

TAMIU Criminal Justice doctoral student Katheleen Chavez was recently awarded first place for her poster presentation during the at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences 63rd Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA. Her poster, “Assessing U.S. Law Enforcement Training: Institutional Capacity on Terrorism and Hate Crime Preparedness,” focused on examining whether U.S. law enforcement training academies are institutionally prepared to address evolving threats in terrorism and hate crimes.

TAMIU College of Arts & Sciences Scholarships Now Open

TAMIU's College of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce that scholarship applications for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year are now officially open.
