Assistant Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you and your families have had a good week? The final week of term has been excellent in school and we have had the opportunity to celebrate the end of term, with lots of activities for the children to engage in and enjoy.
On Monday all pupils had the opportunity to participate in a class trip of their choosing, activities included; Laser Quest, the cinema and a picnic at the beach. These class trips were a wonderful opportunity to spend time in their class teams making valuable memories that will last a lifetime.
On Tuesday afternoon we decluttered the school preparing the classrooms for next year. The new school building is continuing at pace and we are hoping that we will be able to move in after the Easter 2025 break.
On Wednesday we held our Key Stage masses and presented Headteacher awards in the chapel. Fr Nick and Fr Gerard led beautiful services that asked us all to reflect on what being a member of the SJV community means. Mr Moloney and Mr Cassidy presented the attendance and Headteacher awards, recognising the fantastic achievements of our pupils. Attendance at over 92% for the year is an outstanding achievement for the school.
On Thursday Mr Dumville hosted the SJV festival which brought together our Key Stage 3 pupils in a carnival atmosphere. Pupils enjoyed a variety of fun activities including; dancing in the pyramid tent, face painting and eating homemade cakes and scones.
On Friday we moved into our new classes and welcomed new pupils to the SJV community. New class teams and friendship groups are already forming and we look forward to another amazing year in September!
I feel this newsletter reads a little like the Hungry Caterpillar, I wish you and your families a happy and restful summer break, hoping you get some quality time cocooned together, returning in September like beautiful butterflies ready to fly!
Can I remind you please that we reopen for the new academic year to pupils on Tuesday 3rd September at 9am.
GCSE results day is on Thursday 22nd August. School is open for results; 10am to 11:30am. Results letters not collected will be sent out by post.
Thank you for all that you do in working together with us to create the SJV family, we really do appreciate you.
God bless,
Mr G Damant, Assistant Headteacher

Our Catholic School
Our spiritual focus in SJV this week:
‘Open up your heart and listen to what God is saying to you’
- Pope Francis
How is it the end of the year already? It only seems two minutes ago since September. SJV is working right up to the last moment as always, getting ready for our new classes and making sure everything is in place so our leaners have a safe and successful summer holiday.
Within our Catholic school we have had two lovely end of year services delivered by Fr Nick and Fr Byrne, our Chair of Governors. It was wonderful to see everyone celebrating their own and others' achievements together.
Within RE we have been reflecting on those who have helped us to take root and grow; we have been making thank you cards for our friends, family and teachers who have helped us this year on our journey. We have continued to look at worldwide religions and explore how much we have in common as people of faith and to celebrate our similarities and differences.
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer break, see you in September.

Poetry Corner
In the final Poetry Corner of the school year, it's fitting to take some time to reflect on the poetic achievements of our pupils. Our young poets have created some amazing work, taking part in a variety of creative writing workshops exploring themes such as Homelessness and Poverty, Emotional Wellbeing, War Poetry, Laudato Si'; God's Creation and Taking Care of our Common Home. Pupils have grown massively in their confidence and creativity, producing a body of work that has seen the publication of our first ever school poetry anthology. The power of our collective faith runs through the entire collection, in fact, it is often difficult to separate poetry from prayer, this is certainly true of Welsh Poet R.S Thomas. We wish you all a wonderful and poetic summer as we share his beautiful poem and prayer 'Kneeling'.
