Monday, May 12, 2025

Dear University Community,

Happy Monday Dustdevils...

  • Finals are almost over. Check out your exam schedule here.
  • What’s next? For over 950 of you, it’s crossing the stage at our Spring Commencement Exercises on Thursday. And there are hoodings planned, and opportunities to share your good news with our Congrats Grads social media initiative. Details below.
  • Perhaps, like graduate student Rebecca Romero, you’re getting ready for a session presentation at the first-ever Alliance For Texas History academic conference. For others, like TAMIU student Brianna Andrews, you’re off to a summer internship at George Washington University. Or maybe, like assistant professor Dr. Adam Kozaczka, you’re planning research this summer at the Lewis Walpole Library at Yale University. If you’re Dr. Mohammad Davachi, TAMIU assistant professor you might be reflecting on the remarkable collaborative research opportunity you’ve provided students. Or maybe, you’re off on a Summer Study Abroad to see the world!
  • Maybe you’re planning your next semester or your next degree. Registration for Maymester, Summer, and Fall continues online on Uconnect. Details are here and on the Registration Hub. Make your move today!
  • Did you know that TAMIU has expanded its online Criminal Justice Graduate Programs to include Homeland Security, Cybersecurity, and CJ Administration? Start your plan with information.

This Week:

  • TAMIU will present "Cine de la Frontera," a graduate student-led film screening exploring culture, identity, and storytelling TONIGHT at 6 at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Dustdevil Athletics:

  • Juan Monckeberg competed in the final day three of the NCAA Division II Men's Golf West/South Central Regional at the Victoria Club, the oldest club in Southern California. Here’s more.
  • TAMIU’s Women's Golf capped off a successful season with a solid performance at the NCAA Division II West Regional in Amarillo, Texas. Despite weather delays, the Dustdevils remained focused and finished 10th out of 18 teams, posting a three-round total of 906 (308-292-306). Find out more.

As our graduates prepare to cross the stage Thursday, today’s quote comes from President Barack Obama:

…decide to ground yourself in values that last, like honesty, hard work, responsibility, fairness, generosity, respect for others.”

Wherever your summer destination, here or elsewhere, we wish you a summer of abundance, fun, and bright hope for the future.

And for our graduates...CONGRATULATIONS...and one more time...

Let’s Go Dustdevils!

- Juan J. Castillo, interim president
