Inspiring - Inclusive - Empowered
We acknowledge the Minjungbal people, of the Bundjalung Nation, who are the original custodians of the land on which the school proudly stands. We raise our hands to the sky that covers the Aboriginal land. We touch the ground in the care of the Aboriginal land. We place our hands on our hearts in love of the Aboriginal land.

From the Principal:
Office
Due to staff leave we have a two new casual office staff helping out this week: Leah will be in Tuesday and Anita on Wednesday and Thursday. Thankyou for your patience as they settle into The Pocket School.
Communication
The school communicates through the app School Bytes. We understand that life is busy, and information needs to be at hand instantly for many people which is why we will always refer parents back to the School Bytes app. While we appreciate the support from parents through the parent WhatsApp groups, if you have a significant query or question regarding the school, a school event or your child please contact us directly.
Over the past term we have had parents state misinformation regarding school events and processes as they have misread or been given incorrect information on WhatsApp.
Drop Off and Pick Up
Drop off and pick up times are busy at our school. A few reminders to ensure everyone is safe.
- When collecting your child, wait inside the school gates. Try and spread out across the grass as the gate exit gets pretty congested.
- Park in safe areas. While we understand that parking is limited, please ensure you park in safe places when dropping off or collecting your child. If parking opposite the school please ensure your whole car is off the road and be aware that you are in the reverse line of the cars parked on the school side of The Pocket Road.
- Reversing and looking for a park. When reversing out of your park please ensure you do so slowly! We understand that afternoons are busy (parties, play dates, sports etc) but there have been many near misses with both cars and people. Take the time to look and reverse slowly from your park.
- Keep your children near you. When inside the school gates and outside the school gates, your children are in your care. To ensure everyone’s safety, make sure they are kept near you.
Sailing
On Friday last week, Year 6 were lucky enough to go sailing on the Tweed River with Tweed Sailing Club volunteers. We flew up the river to the M1 bridge where we stopped for hot chips (thanks Em) before heading back to Fingal Head tacking the whole way back! The students had a ball and learnt so much about sailing.
Thanks to Matt for organising another amazing experience for our children to be involved with.
Aurora College
Aurora college is an online school run by the Department of Education for students who are gifted and high potential learners in the areas of maths and science. Last week our three Aurora students travelled down to Canberra to meet their teachers and classmates. They went to Questacon, the zoo, the dinosaur museum and more! By all accounts they had a great time.
Congratulations to Tate for being selected to join Aurora College in 2025!
Summer In The Pocket
We are looking forward to an epic Summer in the Pocket this year. We have two water slides, the giant slide, a jumping castle, great food and music!
We also have an epic raffle - https://rafflelink.com.au/summerpocket
School Absences
Moving forward, parents will be notified of absences via a daily text message. Please ensure you fill in the link provided in the text.
Swimming in Term 4
Just a reminder about the intensive swim scheme that will run in Week 7 and 8 of this term. This is where the whole school attends Mullumbimby Pool for swimming lessons. The lessons are paid for by the Department of Education. However, parents pay for the bus and pool entry. All swimming notes are live in School Bytes.
Bikes and Scooters Day
The new date for the Bikes and Scooters Day is Friday 8 November (see poster below). All students are encouraged to bring their bike or scooter to school (please not both) to enjoy a range of fun activities organised by the SRC.
Monday Assembly Awards
Attendance
As you all know, education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. We love to work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier, and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.
