PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

REFERENDUM BAKE SALE AND SAUSAGE SIZZLE

I’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in planning our bake sale and sausage sizzle, those who have been or will be busy baking at home over the next few days and those who are volunteering their time on Saturday to cook sausages and sell cakes. It is not only a wonderful fundraising opportunity for our school but a lovely community event which brings together the wider Glen Iris and Camberwell communities. Many past students and families still enjoy coming back on election and referendum days to see how CSPS has evolved over time. I look forward to seeing many of you bright and early on Saturday morning.

On Wednesday next week, we look forward to welcoming our future CSPS families into our community at our Prep 2024 Parent Information Night. The following evening, our current CSPS fathers and father-like figures are encouraged to attend The Fathering Project Evening at the Malvernvale with Guest Speaker Anthony 'Harry' Moffitt.

SCIENCE KITCHEN UPDATE

This week our fabulous builders will be installing the cabinetry in our new kitchen as we take one big step closer to finishing the project.

YEAR 6 AMAZING RACe

An overview from Izzy, 6A.

On 14 September, 8 groups of students set off on a hunt around the city. They raced against time to receive points to help their chosen charity. The groups all chose a specific charity to represent on the day, such as 2 Peter MacCallum Foundation groups, Fight MND, Breast Cancer Council, FurEver Friends, Butterfly Foundation, Eat Up and RSPCA.

The main idea of the Amazing Race was to help the Year 6's organise their time, to help a charity and compete as a team. As the day went on , we learnt more and more about the city and how it works. It really pushed us to organising and to deal with our time wisely. We had such a fun time and ended up raising over $1,500 for the Peter MacCallum Foundation. We are thrilled to donate the money to such a worthy cause!

My highlight of the day was being able to explore the city with my friends, seeing famous buildings in Melbourne, playing in the public sprinklers in Fitzroy Gardens and answering questions around the CBD. And of course, getting slushies! The day was so much fun and we made some amazing memories together. We would like to say a special thanks to everyone who donated and the parent helpers on the day.

MUSIC NEWS

RECITALS

Recital season is upon us and we have several planned for November. Recitals are connected to a specific IMT teacher reserved for their students only. Each will be held in the Theatre, commencing at 3.30pm until around 4.30pm. Interested music students are invited to perform, not every student needs to perform, especially if they have only just started learning.

All students will be withdrawn from class at 3.00 pm for set up and a quick rehearsal. Parents and friends are all invited to this wonderful celebration of learning.

If there are any parents who can offer their assistance for the afternoon, I would be very happy to hear from you. At the conclusion of the recitals we can enjoy some afternoon tea together and any contributions will be gratefully received.

Dates to remember
  • Monday 6 November - Guitar Recital 3.30pm
  • Wednesday 15 November - Piano Recital 3.30pm
  • Monday 20 November - Victoria's Piano Recital 3.30pm
ASSEMBLIES

There will be a number of performances at assembly now that students have been learning for some time. Soloists and ensembles will be scheduled throughout the term. Please watch for notifications so that your children are ready to go 😊.

The Christmas community performance has been scheduled for Friday, 8 December. We have a tradition of performing the Radetzky March as a full orchestra. We bring the Concert Band and the Senior Strings together, along with extra percussionists and one piano student to play as a full orchestra. I like to open this orchestra up to community members. If any parent or grandparent or carer or extended family member would like to join us in the CSPS community orchestra playing the Radtezky March, please be in touch and I will get you the score for your selected instrument.

SOLO SINGERS

There are opportunities for solo singers to perform a Christmas tune at the CSPS Twilight BBQ on 10 November. A sign up sheet will be issued and vocal teacher approval will be required. Interested vocal students should start by discussing the opportunity with Olive or Mei Wah.

It’s a very busy term for musicians. So much to celebrate as we perform and share our year's worth of learning for the community.

Practice, practice, practice. 😊

Thanks so much! Catherine Lyons
