Mrs. Johnson's Message

Welcome to Cedar Valley High School, the proud home of the Aviators! At CVHS, we take pride in our unique identity and strive to create an educational experience like no other.

Upon entering our school, students are greeted by the iconic Wright Brother’s aircraft, setting the tone for a journey of discovery and innovation. As students span the commons, the F22 seemingly lands through the expansive library window, offering a visual spectacle that embodies the spirit of aviation. Throughout the school, meticulous details like airline seats and aviation-themed decor are strategically placed to immerse our students in an environment that sparks imagination and creativity.

Noteworthy features such as checkerboard patterns in "The Hangar" (our gym) and "The Runway" (our football field) pay homage to the markings used on Allied aircraft during WWII, adding a touch of historical significance to our unique setting.

Every element of our school is intentionally designed to inspire our students and serve as a constant, tangible reminder that they have the power to create and pursue their dreams. We believe in fostering an atmosphere where STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) content areas are not just subjects but pathways to greatness.

At CVHS, we're more than just a school; we're a community dedicated to cultivating a passion for learning, encouraging creativity, and empowering our students to reach for the skies. We invite you to be a part of this extraordinary journey where innovation takes flight, and dreams become reality.

Welcome to Cedar Valley High School, where our theme, "cleared for take-off" is just the beginning!

PTSA

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is a national organization designed to engage and empower families and communities to advocate for all children. Our Cedar Valley PTSA facilitates national and local programs such as Reflections and Battle of the Bands, provides scholarship opportunities, advocates for our school community with the Utah legislature, creates leadership and community involvement opportunities for our students, and provides support to our CVHS faculty and teachers.

PTSA meets monthly with students, faculty, and parent volunteers to discuss the best ways to support our Cedar Valley community. We strive to develop programs, resources, and leadership skills to enhance the lives of our students and their families.

Our PTSA students are able to learn and develop transferable skills through their active participation. They practice voting on student leadership then accepting those roles and responsibilities, voicing their concerns and ideas, helping to create actionable plans and facilitating follow through, coordinating and participating in events and fundraisers, and learning what goes on behind the scenes in our PTSA. Our future leaders are created from the seeds planted in today’s students. This year, we are able to offer 2 $250 scholarships.

Our CVHS PTSA has a passion for our school and community and appreciates the opportunities to show support to our CVHS faculty. We truly love being a part of something great!

Our Academic Teams

2023/24 Student Council Theme

English 9

As a 9th grade team, we encourage students to find their identity as lifelong readers and writers through exposure of different literary genres. We strive to teach students to communicate effectively with others through different mediums. In our classrooms students learn to question, analyze, and argue their thinking through varied reading and writing strategies. Students will become lifelong learners by continuing to read, continuing to write, and continuing to learn.

English 10

Our tenth grade team strives to be the best teachers we can possibly be. We are committed to giving our students a well-rounded and engaging English experience. This year we are very excited to be implementing the Pre-AP curriculum. This curriculum focuses on analysis writing, rhetoric, speaking and listening skills, and much more. We feel that this curriculum will help our students become better readers and writers and prepare them for their future. We are constantly collaborating to make English an enjoyable and memorable experience.

English 11:

We are passionate about giving students real-world experiences within the classroom. We build literacy and grammar skill sets that will help students be more successful in school, future education, and future careers. We care about our students as individuals and see the potential in each of them to master the core learning standards. We focus on developing practices that meet all students' needs to ensure they do not slip through the cracks, giving them a cohesive and student-centered learning experience in high school.

Social Studies

Social Studies provides a unique opportunity to help students develop the knowledge and tools that will prepare them to go out and contribute to the world in productive ways. Across our various disciplines we focus on teaching historical literacy skills, including sourcing, corroboration, contextualization, and close reading.

Social Studies continued

Students learn to look critically at primary and secondary sources of information and to make connections between what they are learning in class and the world around them. We believe that a focus on literacy skills and improving writing skills as an integrated part of our content, will prepare our students for a successful future.

Social Studies Continued

We help our students understand their roles as active and involved citizens in the school and community. We love to build strong relationships with our students and we love being Aviators!

Student Center

The members of the Student Center work extremely hard to provide multiple services to students, families, and the staff of Cedar Valley High School in an effort to strengthen positive outcomes for the community. Some of the ways we specifically accomplish this is by educating students on college and career opportunities, administering aptitude tests for career guidance, giving classroom presentations, providing small group and individual counseling, implementing interventions, advocating for students, organizing senior graduation and handing out lots of encouragement as well as candy. We love coming to work and being able to support all the varied situations that come through our door. We love being a part of CVHS's success story!

Earth Science

The Earth Science team at Cedar Valley is a dynamic and enthusiastic group. With a love for scientific inquiry, collaboration, and student success as our guiding principles we are excited to welcome our 9th grade Aviators! We are in our 4th year of implementation of the Utah SEED standards as the talents and temperaments of our Earth Science team are really shining as we help our students to truly soar! The Earth Science team has developed and utilized lessons and labs that are aligned to the standards to inspire our students to inquire and think deeply about what they learn about the universe and the world they live in. The Earth science team has created common formative and summative assessments aligned with the standards to accurately reflect student learning and measure growth throughout each unit of study. We have found that our students' learning proficiency steadily has grown throughout the school year as their scientific capacity and capability continue to fly to new heights! Our students are tackling real world challenges, using current research and ever growing scientific discoveries in their lessons, labs and projects to explore and gain a greater understanding of Earth and beyond.

Chemistry

The Chemistry team is focused on giving students a hands-on experience with Chemistry. We focus on collaborating and creating the best classes and experiences possible to help our students succeed and learn to love science.

Biology

As the biology team continues to develop and enhance applicable science curriculum, students are better prepared to think critically about science topics that directly affect themselves and others. A honed focus on phenomena that students can encounter in life allows for dialogue and investigations that leads to a better understanding of science and life. Students practice science skills and learn how they are a part of a bigger system that they all have an impact on.

Health

Our Health Team is focused on creating a unified program of health and safety for all students. We strive to educate students with the same day to day standards and objectives, so that students across the department can interact and engage one with another with the learned material. Our unified program strives to enable all students to develop skills and abilities that enable them to make healthy decisions for a lifetime.

CTE

Our team Mission is to prepare students for post-secondary training, successful careers, and enriched lives. We ensure that all students acquire the essential knowledge, skills, and dispositions in each CTE course.

Visual Arts

As an art team, we are passionate about what we do! We love the art world and the creative doors it opens for all! We believe in teaching our students problem solving skills that can be used beyond the art classroom. We also believe in creating a safe space for our students to express themselves and explore their creative potential.

World Language

In today’s global community, competence in more than one language is an essential part of communication and cultural understanding. The study of another language not only provides individuals with the ability to express thoughts and ideas for their own purposes, but also gives them access to perspectives and knowledge that are only available through the language and culture. It is our goal to help our students' obtain the necessary skills to be successful in Speaking, Writing, Reading, Signing and Listening so they can become competent global citizens by applying their knowledge and skills beyond the classroom.

Resource Math

The Special Education Math team is dedicated to providing our students with the academic support they need to succeed in their general education curriculum. Our vision is "to ensure all students' academic and social-emotional needs are met" by leveraging specialized instruction, classroom accommodations, and collaborative teaching strategies.

Resource English

This year the ELA team is working to build reading and writing proficiency for our students. As a collaborative team, we developed benchmarks to measure progress. We are working to build skills that will transfer to all content areas, allowing our students to access more rigorous and complex texts. We are striving to build a love of reading for our students.

Life Skills

"The Life Skills unit at CVHS has worked hard to create a curriculum based off of the essential elements. We have spent a lot of time creating common lessons and assessments. This helps ensure that all of the life skills students across the three classes are getting the same curriculum. During the second semester, we plan on mastering job applications and job interview skills to be able to help Jet Fuel deliver drinks to our amazing faculty and staff. In February, we plan on doing an awesome fundraiser to bring awareness to "Spread the Word to End the Word". We feel like we are the luckiest three teachers in the school to get to spend our time with these 35 amazing life skills students and 100's of peer tutors.

PE

Our goal is to foster a love for the arts that transcends the classroom and enriches their lives for years to come.

PLC Coaches and ILC Coaches

Katie, Christian, and Stacey, the PLC Coaches And Innovative Learning Coach, play a central role within Cedar Valley High School. They collaborate with team members to design and assess the course curriculum, ensuring alignment with essential standards and students' learning needs. Evaluating student progress through data analysis, they actively participate in modifying and updating the course of study. This involves planning curriculum guides, creating learning targets and assessments, utilizing assessment data to inform instruction, and maintaining files of content-specific activities. Additionally, they facilitate discussions on lesson planning, incorporating diverse instructional strategies for all student populations. Serving as a model and resource for other teachers, they are willing to take a leadership role in in-service courses and staff development, and assist the team in formulating SLO goals and documents.
