Whitkirk News! 20th December 2024

A message from Miss Quarmby

We’ve made it! The Christmas spirit is well and truly alive at Whitkirk after another week of festive fun! We started the week jumping for joy as we hit (and exceeded!!!) our £5,000 Cash for Kids target! When Mr Sadler and I first signed up, we wondered if it was the right decision. Christmas is always such a busy time in school, and we knew it would be a big ask of our families and school community. Secretly, we thought, if we could even raise just £1,000, it would still make a difference. But in true Whitkirk style, you all blew us away with your generosity and support! The biggest thank you to everyone who contributed. Now, we’ll wait to find out in January if we’ve won the additional £5,000 prize!

The KS2 Christmas Service at St. Mary’s Church had me weeping (in the best way), and the KS1 Nativity left me with aching cheeks from smiling so much. Our children have amazed us all, performing with such confidence. A special shout out to our KS1 bakers, Esmae and Ernest, who were absolute stars in the KS1 nativity.

As we wrap up the term, I wish you all a merry and magical Christmas. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for being the wonderful community that makes Whitkirk so special. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Lunch

On Wednesday, the children and staff enjoyed our Christmas lunch. With thanks to our wonderful catering team, especially Mrs Stevens for providing such delicious food!

Attendance

This week, finishing in first place with 96.43% are 5AK. In second place are 4AS, with 96.39% and in third place are, 5/6AR with 96.11%. The whole school attendance this week is 94.28%: can we beat this year week? The only way to do that is if we all come to school as often as we can. The whole school attendance for this school year so far is 95.02%.

Let's take a look AT WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON THIS WEEK

EYFS

What a magical last week of term for Reception! From visiting Santa's reindeer, present deliveries from the Grinch on behalf of the PTA, Christmas crafting with buddies and finally Christmas themed Secret Readers, we could not be prouder of our children this term for all that they have achieved. From their very first day at Whitkirk, to now entering school each day, making so many new friends and thriving. Well done Reception!

Key Stage 1

What a fabulous end to term we have had in Year 1! We concluded our History topic by creating a cup and ball toy from the past, we had so much fun. Year 1 teachers are beyond proud of our Year 1 singers in the Nativity this week, they certainly dazzled and shone! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Year 2 have had an incredible week learning all about Queen Victoria and painting her portrait using tints and tones. We also enjoyed our food technology day, where the children made delicious vegetable soup from scratch. Finally, we couldn’t be prouder of their amazing acting and singing in the nativity—have a wonderful Christmas!

Lower Key Stage 2

What a wonderful, Christmas-filled week in Year 3! We were so impressed with how the children performed at both the Church Christmas Concert and the Community Centre. They have definitely spread Christmas cheer to the whole of Whitkirk! Amongst enjoying Christmas dinner, parties and celebrations, the children have also loved showcasing and rounding up their topics from this half term. We are so proud of each and every one of them.

Year 4 have been very creative this week, making cards, calendars and painting flowers! We have been blown away by the hard work and dedication of the Year 4s!

Upper Key Stage 2

This week has been fantastic for UKS2! We began the week with an art day where we sketched and painted pictures of our local area. We created some fantastic zines which showcased all the knowledge and skills we have learned throughout this half term. We also had a great time in church for our Christmas service. We were really pleased with UKS2 for their outstanding performances and singing. Year 6 ended the week with a lovely visit from their buddies to create some fantastic Christmas crafts together. Merry Christmas from all of the UKS2 team and we will see you all in the new year!
