Hi everyone,
“You can begin with a prayer meeting at the hall”,
this is the instruction that my Pastor gave me when he first sent me to pioneer our church 43 years ago. We had a few borrowed chairs, no proper pulpit (we built one on our own later), the floor of the small hall was cement rendered, a broken guitar, a few adults who had moved to the new community called Taman Melawati and who had decided to take the risk to follow a novice Minister who had just entered Bible School. But most of all, we had a prayer meeting!
Metro Tabernacle and the community have changed drastically in the last 43 years, but the purpose of our Wednesday Prayer Meeting has not changed and has outlasted every service the last 43 years.
I know every time I declare the Prayer Meeting as the most important meeting in the church; most people take it as a genuine “religious cliché” that no self-respecting preacher or church can deny because Christianity, and broadly speaking, all religions, are somehow related to the element called prayer.
Prayer meeting is never a “religious cliché “at Metro Tabernacle:
- It is the spiritual womb where the plans of God for the Church are conceived and nurtured by the Holy Spirit;
- It is the battle ground where the victory is gained in the spirit realm with spirit anointed weapons;
- It is the altar where the river of God begins that gives life, refreshing, revival, healing, deliverance and mighty restoration of lives;
- It is the prophetic atmosphere that releases the voice of God that steers us towards and through God’s apostolic vision and direction for Metro Tabernacle;
- It is the meeting place with God, through Spirit to spirit encounter, that changes lives;
- It is the watchman’s tower to stand in to watch over lives and see the move of God; and
- It is the place for exponential increase in power and authority through agreement in intercession to support the needy, breakthrough the barriers and to release of God’s blessings and purpose.
Space will not allow me to share with you today all the reasons for church prayer meeting.
Jesus declared, ““It is written,” he said to them, “’My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’” (Matt. 21:13).
Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
It has been proven in the 2000 ++ years of church history of any conceivable church settings, traditions, culture or nation that the strength of the church is not vested in her leadership and management abilities, excellent programs, doctrinal accuracy, numbers, facilities, great preaching and teaching, but when she individually and corporately draws near to God in prayer.
“A congregation without a prayer meeting is essentially defective in its organization, and so must be limited in its efficiency. “ E.M. Bounds
“The early church prayed. Every revival church has prayed. Every participant in revival prayer has known travail. Though there are some tearful intercessors behind the scenes, but I grant you that to the modern Christianity, praying is foreign.” L.Ravenhill
By the grace of God, we will continue to grow the Prayer Meeting, and I invite all of you to join me every Wednesday at 8pm. Together, we will draw near to God, together we will crouch at heaven’s door, together we will stand in the gap for the lost, needy and get our victories!
Wednesday Prayer Meeting is still, after 43 years, the most important meeting at Metro Tabernacle. Amen and Amen!!
“Nothing is more profitable than the reading of the history of revivals. You will find that sometimes revival has come after a group of people, perhaps a mere handful, who were almost breaking their hearts because of the state of religion in their church, and because of the deadness and lifelessness of their church, met together to pray God to intervene.” Martyn Lloyd-Jones
“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31
