The Wave term 2 week 10

Relieving Principal's Message

What a whirl wind Term 2 was!

We have seen a plethora of activity across the school with sporting successes and student achievement being celebrated. We held our PBL Rewards Day on Thursday to acknowledge our students who make good choices day in and day out and today we held our Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 Athletics Carnival. It was heart warming to see each child give it their absolute all with a smile on their face. Thank you so much to each parent, carer or family member who came to support their child.

Yesterday I held a Leadership Morning Tea with our School Captains and Student Representative Council members. We had delicious snacks and some amazing conversation about how they felt things are going in our school. They highlighted positives and areas for improvement and had presented very thoughtful ideas to engage our student body and have a little fun. One of those ideas was a Staff v Student Dodgeball game! We will see….

Student Report Cards were distributed on Wednesday and I have read each and every one. It was a pleasure to see how students are progressing and their strengths as well as what learning goals have been set for Semester 2. For the first time, reports are available on our School Bytes App and can be found in the “Resources” tab.

I would like to wish all our families a happy and safe two weeks. Term 3 starts with a bang with the 8yrs + Athletics Carnival and our NAIDOC celebrations both held in Week 2 and some very exciting Education Week activities occurring in Week 3.

Enjoy your family time and we can’t wait to see everyone back on Tuesday 22 July 2025.

What's been happening at BCHS...

Students empowered to share ideas at national conference

A group of Ballina Coast High School students presented their ideas on what makes an ideal learning space to a national audience on 12 June.

Principal Peter Howes recently engaged an architect renowned for her expertise in educational spaces, Dr Fiona Young, to work alongside the students, helping them to identify what they wanted from their perfect learning environment.

“Empowering our students to have a voice is something we value highly at Ballina Coast High School, and this is an example of why that matters,” Mr Howes said.

“It enabled us to see learning spaces through their lens. The students told us where they like to learn and what sorts of spaces inspire them creatively and intellectually.”

On 12 June the students spoke at the EduTech conference, Australia’s largest educator and technology conference, attracting more than 10,000 attendees.

Last month, they presented to architects at the Learning Environments Australasia conference.

Dr Young said she had watched the confidence of the students grow to a point where they are now comfortable speaking in front of conference delegates.

“It has been wonderful to see them reflecting so articulately on their experience,” she said.

“Their insights on reducing distractions, improving behaviours and deepening the sense of belonging among students have been enlightening.”
