Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold country?

This week in geography the children explored a world map and globe, learning to recognise and name the seven continents. They used atlases to help them correctly label the continents on a map of the world, showing good understanding and building on their prior knowledge.

The children discovered where the North and South Poles are and learned how to locate them using compass directions. They identified and labelled the poles on a world map, talked about where they are found, and explored different images showing what each place looks like.

They learned where the Equator is and why it is very hot due to its position close to the sun. They explored the poles and the Equator using Google Earth, discussed what they could see, and learned that the Equator is an imaginary line around the middle of the Earth. Finally, the children discussed whether they would like to live in a hot or cold country and drew pictures of what they would pack
